i miss joe stummer everyday. but more so since i started relistening to my clash cds and got "global a go go" out of the library. i miss you joseph you left us far to quick and way too early.
I saw Joe at Shea stadium when THE CLASH blew the WHO off the stage. It was close but it wouldn't have been had the WHO let THE CLASH use the P.A..Joe was one of the best, one of the good ones.I have been told this by a guy who grew up with him:JOHANSEN.I knew the night I saw that show that I had seen something I'D tell my Grandkids about.I did just that two weeks ago! They filmed it and released it recently.RnR history, glad I was there...R.I.P. Mr.JOE STRUMMER,u left us way too soon,DAMM!
Just for the same of accuracy, Sonny Curtis was not the bass player for Buddy Holly and the Crickets. He was a lead guitarist who played w/ Holly before he was successful and joined the reformed Crickets in the 1960's - Holly broke up the Crickets months before he died - years after Holly's death and they recorded some lackluster work. Curtis wrote the Mary Tyler Moore theme song!!! :)
After Holly's death, Curtis joined the reformed Crickets
I'm 16 and people who lived to see the clash.. U guys are so lucky! I'm here growing up with crap music.... I don't wanna know what music will sound like in the future
joe never forgot where he came from. he loved THE CLASH songs(even though this one is a cover)...but he still did his originals with the mescalerors...but always remembered the clash...not too many performers ever do that...or not enough.
The one thing I like about the Mescaleros is they always play the songs just the way Mick wrote them! They come very close to the released recordings.
How in the hell can these people be in the presence of Joe and not just be going ape shit? This audience looks dead. How sad. RIP Joe - you were the only songwriter that really mattered
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I've always thought that Strummer was a complete künt, but it's good of him to prove it. Which line-up of Buddy Holly & The Crickets was Sonny Curtis the bass player in? What a fucking prize plank! I saw the Clash once. Fakking shite.
Only two guys in the whole world can be this kind of song. Joe Strummer (The Clash) and Johnny Thunders (New york dolls). Others like Greenday etc. can try but they will never reach the energy what Joe & Johnny bring with simple songs like this RIP JOE & RIP JOHNNY
"One day it will please us to remember even this" - Johnny Thunders
Is it just me or is Joe's guitar never loud enough in Mesceleros performances? In the final chorus of the song, he is strumming with massive intensity (at 2 mins 15 seconds) and you cant even hear it! (even though the other guitarists aren't playing) It boggles my mind.
Great performance none the less. His vocals in this are top notch.
Joe was such a cool guy. He was a tireless advocate for the poor and oppressed people of the world, as well as a musician and songwriter of the 1st order.
Boyo, you left us too soon. You will always be remembered as the best of the best, in my heart anyway.
I remember seeing Joe and the band play in Liverpool around this time and it just blew me away! I couldn't believe how much energy was coming from this man. Being a fan of the Clash for years previously just hadn't prepared for me for what it was actually like to see him play live. I've never seen anyone play with that much spirit before, or since. Truly, a one off. God bless you Joe.
The "crowd" is SHIT!!!! This is legend that playin' for their sorry asses, and they're like: "Joe Strummer, i think I heard 'bout him..." Fuck you pussys in the crowd! JOE STRUMMER R.I.P. I love you. I'll never forget you!
the rad thing about Joe strummer is that he could be old and still totally kill it on stage. there's some of those guys that it's like, get off, give it up, but man joe could do it, cuz he was that great. super ill.
Hendrix was an innovative guitarest, sadly wasted his talent with heroin and the excess of the lifestle he craved, Joe Strummer was and still is a man of the people who without great guitar skills inovated a generation with his lyrics passion and understanding something Hendrix could never deliver with all his sublime talent.
after all those years joe didnt change, he still spoke in a way which evoked respect without demanding it and still sang with the same rebellious passion. TO THE GREATEST ROCKER WHO EVER LIVED!!!!!!!!!
He was taken way too soon. He had so much passion for the values he stood for and the music he wrote. The ultimate working class hero. He is sorely missed. RIP JOE. Hope your in a better place.
To be a real pedant you should know that Sonny Curtis wasn't a member of the Crickets. He did play with Buddy, but was never a member of the Crickets.
It's true that Sonny Curtis was not a Cricket whilst Buddy Holly was in the band. He joined them after Buddy and The Crickets parted company, and made his first recording with them on the 12th November 1958. He has been a member of the Crickets on and off ever since, sometimes singing lead vocals, and sometime just taking the lead guitar behind other singers such as Earl Sinks. He recorded 'I Fought The Law' with them (lead guitar and vocals) in 1959 at Bell Sound Studios in New York.
Oh, I had no idea that Strummer did concerts after The Clash. Seems like a great show though. It's such a contrast to sex pistols that I saw a couple of weeks ago. They only seemed to be in it for the money...it was such an act
i saw them both and the pistols were in it for the money which is so in the spirit of punk to turn your back on the things you rely on to survive in their case punk rock itself
But i also saw the mescaleros and very few things in my life will ever compare. there were very few places i'd rather have been. Joe acted like he was 20 when he was really 50
i saw the pistols recently and came away very disappointed with them, although i should have known better. i also saw Joe and The Mescaleros 3 times (can even remember 2 of them!) and he was worth every penny, great nights.
what the hell is wrong with that lame back up singer and guitar player ......... hes singing like hes fucking asleep... he doesn't deserve to be on that stage man... second: how come joe died so young its so unfair.......I dont get it
"Strummer died on December 22, 2002 in his home at Broomfield in Somerset, the victim of an undiagnosed congenital heart defect.[5][3] His estate was valued at just under £1 million, and he left all the money to his wife Lucinda."
I agree with the person who said the guitar solo lacked energy. The other guitarist fails to bend the note worth crap 3 times in a row. Does he have no "ear" or is he supremely lazy? Otherwise awesome song and Joe is great.
i seen the clash 7 times, twice with terry chimes on drums, and 5 times in the 84 line up, and i seen the mescaleros, think joe done along with other stuff, 17 strummer/jones, if ya like songs, was fucking brilliant, and he was totally relaxed, didnt have to be tight like in the clash
simplemente el mejor Joe!!! y la maldita ley gano!!!

I'll forever regret not being of the punk era because it means I'll never see the Clash live.
REST IN PEACE JOE STRUMMER! YOUR MUSIC LIVES ON!
