I remember when I was little my aunt got me the book version when it wasn't even Christmas. I remember that i liked it and it smelled weird. I still hate myself for losing it.
It really is amazing how much Scrooge voices the sentiments of the modern day Tea Partiers. In this day, this movie would be condmened as liberal propaganda. So sad.
Goofy as Jacob Marely was actually a big surprise. The part of the future scared the heck out of me as a kid and it still does. This verison is really cute, however Willie as The Ghost of Christmas Present didn't take Scrooge to his nephew's place as well, I know he was suppose to show him about Tiny Tim but still.
@ainmals1 I agree, but I think Disney should revist this and and all the elments that were drooped from the original story by Dickens it would make amazing film even more complete since I considere this verison the best I have seen of the original story just because of Scrooge McDuck is casting as Ebenizer Scrooge
One of my favourite Christmas specials ever. It's funny to see Donald Duck playing a sincerely sweet and nice character, not the grouch we're so used to seeing!
@omondieu Donald Duck is actually a sweetheart even when he loses his temper.
If you're lucky enough to check out the "DuckTales" series (and if you can find any episodes on YouTube since those who tried to give us "DuckTales" got deleted for copyright claims), you'll know what I'm talking about.
@SaintHangman Hey I grew up with DuckTales! You're right though, he was pretty nice in that series. I sort of forgot that he made a few appearances. Don't get me wrong though, Donald's my favourite of Disney's original characters, mostly because I identify with him a little too much.
Donald Duck definitely embodies all of us and it's not just because he's one of Disney's original characters. Donald quacks his way into our hearts whether he's trying to sell hairbrushes even though Daisy, the triplets Huey, Dewey, and Louie, Donald's Uncle Scrooge, and to an extent Admiral Grimitz are among the few who can understand what he's saying or he's roughhousing with the triplets or dancing with Daisy.
This is a pretty darn good version of the Christmas Carol, but nothing beats "Mr Magoo's Christmas Carol" --- the greatest Christmas movie of all time.
This Christmas special is a classic, and I still find it interesting that so many different Disney characters are together in this one. It's almost like seeing Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and other DC superheroes together in one book.
20:50-21:15 Oh, God...Mickey Mouse is mourning the loss of his son...Must...not...cry...mmmusssttt....nnnnotttt....WAAAHHHH!! NOT MICKEY!! NOT MICKEY MOUSE!! WAAHHH!!
(Btw: I'm a 20 year old guy and I have no shame in writing this.)
OH YES! this is awesome. you rock for the upload. takes me back to my childhood on Christmas. watching classic Christmas cartoons like this, Christmas music, decorating the tree and the smell of hot coffee and egg nog!
With names like Don Bluth, John Lasseter and Alan Young, how can this cartoon be anything less than great?
The one complaint that I have is the exclusion of Goldie. So what if no one who doesn't read the comic knows who she is? This movie would have been the perfect way to introduce her. I think she'd have played the role of Scrooge's old flame much more effectively than Daisy. Daisy has a lot in common with Goldie, but she's also very different.
@AtarahDerek This cartoon was actually made four years before the "DuckTales" series.
I agree with you--Daisy Duck is a sweetheart but Goldie would have been a better choice because instead of breaking down into tears as Daisy does, Goldie would have ripped up that foreclosure notice and thrown the pieces back into Scrooge's face.
@SaintHangman Goldie's not original to Ducktales. She's a Carl Barks creation. And this movie marked Alan Young's premier as the voice of Scrooge, so why not the introduction of Goldie as well?
@AtarahDerek I agree--Carl Barks did an awesome job when he created Goldie.
And you're right--Goldie should have been allowed to make her debut in "Mickey's Christmas Carol".
I don't think any other voice actor will ever be able to voice Scrooge McDuck the way Alan Young did (his voice work here and in the "Duck Tales" series and his guest appearance in "The House of Mouse" is amazing).
@Lunabeam1 I'm not saying it was a bad choice, but think about it for a minute, Goofy, one of the most beloved, kind-hearted, silly characters in Disney and animation for that matter portraying a man who in his life committed acts of greed and selfishness and now pays for it but wandering the afterlife carrying heavy chains.
This special marked the debut of the late great wayne allwine as the voice of mickey mouse. Also it would be the last time Clarence Nash provided the voice of donald duck before his death. Afterwards he would be succeeded by Tony Anselmo.
"Why yours Ebineizer. THE RICHEST MAN IN THE CEMETERY! "
Still a very chilling scene and one of the scarier scenes Disney came out with at the time. Even though it is a dream seeing Pete open a gate to hell while laughing as Scrooge struggles to save himself from certain death! Music did a great job of capturing the scene and still makes me feel tense when I see it.
Pete though he is usually comical and boistrous can be very scary in this. Especially when he reveals himself. Who voiced pete in this special? I know his current voice actor is Jim Cummings.
I like uncle Scrooge!
