Yeah, he'll be in town on the 29th from 3-4 pm, it's free at the Resurrection Drums Hollywood Store. Also, Thomas Lang is doing a clinic on the 1st or 2nd of April for 10 bucks at one of the nearby amphitheaters, they have more info at Resurrection.

Remeber if you think it's over kill think of how many notes you can make with a 5 piece you can only make 5 sounds + cymbals. he has the budget to make a many noted and complex song figurations.
1st song is "as i am" off train of thought albumn and the second song is "this dying soul" also featured on the train on thought albumn but their albumn six degrees of inner turbulence is by far their best work apart from a few other songs which deserve alot of credit too.

Methinks this guy doesn't listen to much metal. There is a plethra of big name dummers out there with set-ups like his. You should check out Terry Bozzio, Joey Jordinson for starters. How many cymbals you have isn't the determining factor of how impressive you are. You can sound like crap on a set like his, and you can sound like crap on a simple set. Try again moron.

The triple hi-hat is something Sabian came up with (I think they did it originally anyway), it's just a 14" hi hat with a 10" cymbal on top that also closes with the pedal. The max stax hat is a hi hat made of two splash cymbals (which come from Portnoy's Max Stax). You can just about see them in this video; the stax hat is below the two octobans (the small toms on right of the main two) and the triple hat is on the right of the octobans.
what i would like to see is some of these talented drummers on simple 5 piece kits with 4 or 5 cymbals cus i mean this guy inspires but its gonna b a while b4 i can try these things out properly
definately some of my favorite portnoy drumming, slightly more refined than some of the stuff in the past, freakin sweet...too bad the silly lyrics and shredding make for poor listening. fun to watch though
ian paice is a ledgend, you cant compair him so modern drummers. you cant say sum1s better than him, dont forget, ian paice was in a rock band. Mike Portnoy is in a Progressive metal band, theres a difference in the drum technicality for the music. Ian Paice might be able to go just as fast as mike, if he tryed. ya never know.
This is some of the better double bass I think he knows its not all about gay speed. But still I don't like double bass. well crap nevermind i hate it it just got to the end of the video.
