Asking Mary to pray for you is no different than asking a godly lady at church to pray for you...well, as far as the mechanics is concerned. Given her position, the effectivness of the prayers might be a little different.:-)
Mary needed a Savior just like we all do. In her case, He did it in a unique way because she had a unige mission. He saved her at the moment of conception. She was not vergin born. She was not the daughter of God like Jesus is the Son of God. But she was saved from sin in the womb. Her perfect conception was still the product of the saving Grace of the Cross, just outside of time, which God is. This is the teaching of the Church.
. A saying that is well known among Catholics is, "To Jesus, through Mary." This does not mean, "To Mary, through Jesus." Nor does it mean, "To Jesus and to Mary." This saying affirms that Catholics do not pray "to" Mary as an equal to God. They pray "through" Mary as an intercessor who prays to God on behalf of mankind.
@iktomi5 Good point however, think of it this way let's make it more humane. Mary, a woman given the grace to hold in her womb GOD. The woman who taught Jesus to walk, to talk, who has been on his side for his whole life,His first miracle in the wedding at Canaa, and when dying on the cross He looked upon her humble face, "Mother, behold your children".
I consider Mary my mother, for Jesus himself has revealed her to us.
@iktomi5 The Mother of God was NOT a sinner! If you are a Catholic then you should already know that. At NO TIME did she commit sin as she was to bear and give birth to Christ, the second person of the Blessed Trinity. The Bible doesn't contain everything that Christ did. It is about him, but doesn't contain him.
This is not technically church music; it is in fact Samuel Barber's ADAGIO FOR STRINGS, which the composer revised as a choral piece by using the words to the Latin Mass "Agnus Dei".
@danwelcher please stop labeling things. all that does is divide. THIS IS BEAUTIFUL MUSIC OF LOVE. THIS IS STOP THE BOMBINGS, STOP THE DEMONIC WARS FOR THE PROFIT OF ONE FAMILY NAMES THE ROTHCHILD'S SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF THE DEVIL. WE ARE LIVING IN A BACKWARDS WORLD WHERE ALL NOTIONS OF MORALITY ARE FLIPPED. I AM HERE TO MAKE THAT RIGHT. I AM 666.
@cheng269 I'd encourage you to receive God's forgiveness where he has put it. Not in a remembrance of the Cross but in the preached Word, Baptism, and Holy Communion. There, on a daily basis, is where we can receive what Christ has won for us.
Praying is awesome and beneficial. God answers us and gives us what we need for Life in his church that he's instituted on earth. I'd recommend a Confessional (a church that upholds Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions) Lutheran LCMS church.
@Cathofaithdef...keep fighting the good fight.I'm with you. It's too bad most of them won't know the fullness of it because of ignorance. It's a shame and a waste of Heaven on Earth for them. One day we will all be gone and "Faith" will no longer be needed.I thought about this the other day.I didn't realize how much I would miss it.Faith is a power and knowledge and most of all a precious gift that all the science in the world couldn't tear down.Faith is awesome.
@SilentPhantom007 I am Catholic and observed people in this world kissing each other but I, do not think that's taking Love to far. Do you not ask your fellow Protestant to pray for you? God says LIVE OUR LIFE AS A SAINT. Some in Mother Church have done that and that's why we Venerate them. Catholic faith worships only God the Father, Son and Holey Ghoste. But we do ask one another and our saintley people to pray for us
I have never heard anything so beautiful in my life. I listen to this so often. It makes me homesick. Oh Lord, come quickly. Forgive us and love us and grant us eternity in your Holy Company.
we all believe in one God and His son Jesus. right??? so as what the Holy bible says in the Holy gospel if anyone talks about Jesus or use His name for the benefit of Mankind and its not against the will of God. is not against Him...
@sRembrandt Why, because you can't see God? Because you don't know God? Is your existence on this earth for nothing? Are you no different than the animals that have no conscience. Do you believe faith and reason are disjunctive? Do you believe in love? You can't see it! What color is it?
@1seticat ok...God is nothng to be seen or anyhing else that uses senses...( i expect to hear some stupid 6th sense question ) nor to know. yes...i exist accidentally...and you should thank time for evolving your life kind. faith is out of the game for me..reason is univers. i can t see something that isn t meant to be seen ( you will use this against me ). and i belive there are some things that if seen...don t necesarelly have a colour. please excuse bad english.
@sRembrandt you believe in reason yes? We live in an infinite universe. In an infinite universe exists infinite probability. Whether you wish to believe that God is present in your life is up to you, but God must, and does exist.
@shkopos " Within infinite probability the only thing which could prevent the existence of God, is in fact God." your math sucks. by the way... infinite probability is about the existence of substance ( i think the right word is material - you know...things you can see and touch )....pity i don t have time right now.

@sRembrandt One can know God by living the example Jesus set for all humankind when he walked the earth. You are not an "accident" God knows the numbers of hairs on your head! The time I thank is that which humankind has spent in the pursuit of praying, learning forgiveness and realizing that we are prone to sin and yet with free will we can lead a good life. Part of religion is faith - so if it's out of the game 4 U ...OK When UR Mom said I love U, U beleived it. Y? U had faith it was true.
@sRembrandt we actually do. More common than you may be aware. Continue. Don't exclude that which may appear contradictory on the surface. God exists. You exist. What that is is up to you - Live you life . Be not afraid. go forth rejoice in being alive being able to make a difference
@sRembrandt Well at least U admit God exists, so thats a start. I guess I'm supposed to be shocked by UR response? Not hardly. U choose a site, like this, 2 show all how limited our thinking is due 2 belief in God. Here's a clue. There's a God, you've decided U don't want him in your life.
@1seticat i don t admit anything...god does not exist...and please excuse...but i am tired of fighting ( actually this is not a fight...i am just trying to help you) on this subject and i feel fuckin smart when it comes to believ. i have none. it would be a pleasure to me to meet you in person and talk. you seem smart.
@cathofaithdeath i understand were you are coming from my brother, but must i recomend to not persecute other forms inside the christian tree..i M 13 and have plenty to learn along my blessed life with christ but i who am of babtist belief, highly regard the apostles, "saints", and such others, but do not consider them of bigger meaning than i .. we are created equally amongst our creator christ and it is up to him to decide our daily blessings.. god bless ;)
@cathofaithdef Thank you for your explanation on our beautiful Catholic faith. Non-Catholics just don't take the time to understand what our faith is about. it's easier to judge. I have learned that no one can judge me, only my Lord can. And I need all the Angels and Saints AND my Blessed Mother to "help me" by their example to stay on the right path to GOD.
@cathofaithdef Thank you for helping the ignorant understand the true faith, that which was given to Peter from our Lord. And the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
@cathofaithdef Amen! I was baptized a Lutheran, and have been told that I'm the most Catholic non-Catholic ever seen. Faith is what you believe, religion is what u practice. If u don't first have faith and learn the truths about what u believe, you'll forever be confined to the ignorance of religion. I'm in total agreement with what u have said. Protestants tend to live in the ignorance of their religion and not in the truth of their faith.
@cathofaithdef That's why I absolutely hate it when my mom tries to talk denominations and other religions to me. She's very close minded. I believe anyone that loves Jesus and God more than anything is going to heaven.
@cathofaithdef I am Protestant, and have observed Catholics in a church service kissing relics of St. Therese, and that seemed to be taking 'honoring' her a bit far. I was also curious about why Catholics prey to Saints. Could you maybe explain?
@SilentPhantom007 We pray to them because they have lived extremely faithful lives and have been loyal to God and his church. And yes you might see someone kiss a statue or relic. It happens.
@cathofaithdef VIVAN LOS QUE AMAN Y CREEN EN CRISTO! SOY CATOLICO Y AMO A LOS PROTESTANTES, ATEOS, BUDISTAS Y MUSULMANES.. SOMOS HIJOS DE DIOS.. ANTE ÉL SOMOS SUS HIJOS, NO MUSULMANES, BUDISTAS O CATOLICOS! VIVA EL SEÑOR
@cathofaithdef YOU ARE GOD. THERE IS ONLY ONE, AN INFINITE I. STOP DIVIDING YOURSELF UP. STOP THE KILLINGS STOP THE REPTILIAN CHILD SACRIFICES. HUMAN SHEEP WAKE UP FROM YOUR DAMN SLUMBER. COME OUT OF HELL NOW! 666
I am a devoted Catholic myself, but I do agree with the protestants to an extent. I do have respect towards Mary and the Saints. But, I no longer pray the rosary, because I believe that G-d deserves ALL of my honoring and prayers. Why should I pray to Mary and the saints where Jesus can hear my prayers? Can Jesus not hear my prayers without Mary and the saints? I don't intend on starting another religious argument, this is just what I believe.
@HolyVegeta The rosary is not a prayer only to Mary, If you notice, the prayer is all from the bible.. HAIL MARY FULL OF GRACE, THE LORD IS WITH THEE, BLESSED ARE THOU AMONG WOMEN, AND BLESSED IS THE FRUIT OF THY WOMB, JESUS. HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD PRAY FOR US SINNERS NOW AND THE HOUR OF OUR DEATHS AMEN.
The rosary is one of the strongest prayers, allowing the woman who said yes to the will of God. to pray for you, just like anyone can pray for you, so can the mother of our Lord.
@HolyVegeta Brother, the purpose of praying to Mary is that she intercedes on our behalf to Jesus. If Pope John Paul II had such a close relationship with Mary and could become the man that we all loved, guess who interceded on his behalf? If I became half the man that John Paul II was I would be more than content, and I know that with Mary's help I can become better than what I am. Mary is the Mother of the Church and never forget that.
So, you say that we can only be better Christians if we pray to Mary? Is prayer in Jesus not enough? Does He not deserve to receive all of our prayers? Are there certain prayer requests that can only be granted through the aid of Mary?
I have good respect towards Mary, but Jesus is the one who saved all of us. Therefore, there is no reason why we need to have a dependency on another being, but Jesus, to receive G-d's grace.
@HolyVegeta What dependency? Mary is the mother of God. If you are Catholic you believe in her as being the one who intercedes on our behalf. In fact, God crowned her as the Queen of Saints. She is the person who is closest to God. If you don't want to believe in her role, become a Protestant. Period.
(Sigh, so much for preventing yet another religious argument.)
I am aware about Mary's divine position in being the mother of G-d. But that still doesn't give a proper answer to my previous questions. In an indirect way, you are claiming that Mary has divine characteristics that only G-d can possess.
@HolyVegeta No, of course she is not divine. But she is the mother of God i.e. Jesus. And yes you will get on the wrong side of many Catholics for to state that you will disregard Mother Mary by not praying to her runs contrary to Catholic beliefs. Mary is the mother of God, and as such has a special privilege in heaven. So that if you pray to her there is a greater likelihood that your prayer will be answered since as His mother, she has a very close relationship to Jesus unlike anyone else.
So, G-d is less likely to answer my prayers because I don't pray to Mary? G-d's decision on whether or not to answer someone's prayer does not depend on Mary's involvement.
Look, I don't want to be one of those guys that argues about religion on youtube all the time. I will defend my believe, but obviously neither one of us will change their religious ways because of this argument. I cannot force my believes onto you, only you can make such a decision.
@HolyVegeta I didn't say that. I said that Mary would speak up for you. What is soooooooooooooooo difficult to u-n-d-e-r-s-t-a-n-d????????????????? Listen you sound more like a Protestant than a Catholic. When are you going to have your coming-out party? Do let us know.
@HolyVegeta I've got your same "problem" with this argument....sorry if you wont'understand complitely what I write,I'm not english,it will be very difficoult to express my self correctly. Last sunday, when I went to Mess, the text of the day was concerned on the miracle of the paralytic....do you remenber what happens in that moment?A couple of men took this sick man and brought him to Jesus, thorugh the roof....how did Jesus replie?what did he say?...(continue)
@MslitoOne who da f told u that??? just as cathofaithdef said, us catholics simply honor the saints 4 being the holy ppl they were, same w mary. we worship GOD, not the saints or the statues the r portraied as. and just to clear sumthing up that rlly bothers me, just to let u non catolics out there no, the reason when u go into a catholic church and u see statues of saints and mary its not cause we worship them, its because we want to beautify our churches w works of art. is that rlly so rong???
A beautiful rendition! When I was 5 years old I was in my church's children's choir. We sung this song, and now I'm trying to find a clear version of the song to see if I remember the tune. This version is awe inspiring, but do you know of a video where the words are clearer? That would be so helpful! Thanks!
@mrstjs As a Catholic i must tell you, that you as a Lutheran you are very much like us Catholics, unlike many modern protestants, you follow holy days and continue the traditions of the apostles. you are welcome to always come and visit the catholic church.
@mrstjs Don't join for the music, join for the doctrine. If you really want to give up justification by faith as taught by the Scriptures then that's on you.
@1580BoC I suggest you try converting unbelievers rather than harrassing people who are already Christians. Read the Book of James...it opens new vistas. God bless you.
@mrstjs Doctrinal indifference is a harmful path to go down. Matt. 28:20, "and teaching them to obey *everything* I have commanded you." Crossing the Tiber is putting Jesus and the gospel under the bench. That's huge and absolutely not what is taught in Scripture.
Had my first confession tonight. Thank God for His Church, His priest, and His mercy. He does give us mercy and He does give us peace. Thanks be to GOD!
wE'RE ALL Journeying Home one way or another, Receiving the Eucharist takes one scales off the eyes. Oh Inner Light Of The Most High, shine brightly in our souls depths to know Your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ
@Missyshubby There's a 10 part series coming out right about now called "Catholicism" through Word on Fire. Each episode ends with the most incredible "Agnus Dei" I've ever heard. Find that DVD and enjoy! Keep the tissues handy. It's done by the Choir of The Nat'l Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in D.C.

@cathofaithdef That's why I absolutely hate it when my mom tries to talk denominations and other religions to me. She's very close minded. I believe anyone that loves Jesus and God more than anything is going to heaven.
AdellaDemona 6 months ago
@cathofaithdef I am Protestant, and have observed Catholics in a church service kissing relics of St. Therese, and that seemed to be taking 'honoring' her a bit far. I was also curious about why Catholics prey to Saints. Could you maybe explain?
SilentPhantom007 5 months ago
@SilentPhantom007 We pray to them because they have lived extremely faithful lives and have been loyal to God and his church. And yes you might see someone kiss a statue or relic. It happens.

@cathofaithdef
HolyVegeta 1 month ago
@HolyVegeta The rosary is not a prayer only to Mary, If you notice, the prayer is all from the bible.. HAIL MARY FULL OF GRACE, THE LORD IS WITH THEE, BLESSED ARE THOU AMONG WOMEN, AND BLESSED IS THE FRUIT OF THY WOMB, JESUS. HOLY MARY MOTHER OF GOD PRAY FOR US SINNERS NOW AND THE HOUR OF OUR DEATHS AMEN.
The rosary is one of the strongest prayers, allowing the woman who said yes to the will of God. to pray for you, just like anyone can pray for you, so can the mother of our Lord.
cathofaithdef 1 month ago
@HolyVegeta Brother, the purpose of praying to Mary is that she intercedes on our behalf to Jesus. If Pope John Paul II had such a close relationship with Mary and could become the man that we all loved, guess who interceded on his behalf? If I became half the man that John Paul II was I would be more than content, and I know that with Mary's help I can become better than what I am. Mary is the Mother of the Church and never forget that.
lougalou04 3 weeks ago
@lougalou04
HolyVegeta 3 weeks ago
@HolyVegeta What dependency? Mary is the mother of God. If you are Catholic you believe in her as being the one who intercedes on our behalf. In fact, God crowned her as the Queen of Saints. She is the person who is closest to God. If you don't want to believe in her role, become a Protestant. Period.
lougalou04 3 weeks ago
@lougalou04
(Sigh, so much for preventing yet another religious argument.)
I am aware about Mary's divine position in being the mother of G-d. But that still doesn't give a proper answer to my previous questions. In an indirect way, you are claiming that Mary has divine characteristics that only G-d can possess.
HolyVegeta 3 weeks ago
@HolyVegeta No, of course she is not divine. But she is the mother of God i.e. Jesus. And yes you will get on the wrong side of many Catholics for to state that you will disregard Mother Mary by not praying to her runs contrary to Catholic beliefs. Mary is the mother of God, and as such has a special privilege in heaven. So that if you pray to her there is a greater likelihood that your prayer will be answered since as His mother, she has a very close relationship to Jesus unlike anyone else.
lougalou04 3 weeks ago
@lougalou04
HolyVegeta 3 weeks ago

@MslitoOne It's ok, I can understand that you're jealous cause Catholics have some awesome amazing music to worship God.

@MslitoOne Do you know God? Do you see Him? Do you feel Him?
I do. Don't judge your brotherman my friend. Go in peace, Be at peace. :-)

God bless.

@mrstjs so...you are so faithful that an instrumental human-created song can change your mind about it. nice.
