thats the biggest channel ive seen so far. i just got my biggest 3 nights ago and he weighed 9lbs 3 ounces but no where near as big as yours. i did a 14lb flathead that night too not bad for me lol.
nice channel cat. he would have been to big for me to eat, i prefer them around 5-10 LBs for eating. i would much rather have a nice clean fillet from a catfish to picking bones out of pan fish, but smoked trout is about unbeatable.
i dont get how you use 10lb test i use 50lb test braid... but then again you set your drag really low and take 10 minutes to reel in a fish i just set the hook and reel'em straight in... but that is a nice cat and i hope you have that good of luck more often
Nice fish guys. I fish with a buddy of mine in the Susquehanna River around the Tioga/Broome County border for channel cats. These are a lot of fun to catch. Anything over 15 pounds is a tussel and over 20 can be a challenge.
@Survival96 Actually I'd say closer to a 22-24 pounds. I've got lots of channel catfish video I'll be uploading in the next couple weeks, including an almost identical twin to this one that won a boat in a tournament for me and my buddy. It was 34" and 22 pounds. This is a real nice cat and it may have our winner by a pound or 2.
What is a chicken liver sack? And how do you rig that up? When I fish with Chicken Livers I have to wrap them in Pantyhose or CheeseCloth to keep them from coming off the hook. Is the sack similar or are you using a small ziplock bag with holes in it?
BTW- Forgot to mention, for those in the western New York area if you like channel cats there is a real sleeper fishery in Tonawanda creek from Transit Rd. to Indian Falls, well, at least as far as injun territory. Don't go tresspassin' on the rez because you WILL find trouble.
(hint- might be a few muskies & wallys over ten lbs too)
holy shit man i have never seen a channel that big i didnt know they got that big. the biggest channel i ever hooked into was about 10 pounds very nice fish man
thanks- we get a few up around the 20 lb mark but that one was by far the biggest-heard of 30's in that creek but we havnt found one yet -someone got a 32 lb channel a couple years ago
Everyone is correct. It IS a channel catfish. Ictalurus Punctatus. Trouble with the large adults is, they get very dark(except of course for captive bred albino) resembling flathead catfish which get MUCH larger, and worse, they lose the fork in their juvenile and adolescent tails which can be a dead give away. This IS an impressive channel catfish, though!
eat that sucker next time

whats the difference between catfish and bullhead?
KidODeath500 1 year ago
@KidODeath500 catfish get a lot bigger and fight harder .
cats have forked tails and bullhead strait
ROADSNAKE90ROADSNAKE 1 year ago
@KidODeath500 bullhead generally stay at about 5 pound max cats can go anywhere depending on what they eat
FishinFool513 1 year ago
@KidODeath500 bullhead catfish rarely reach 5 pounds in size, they are very small size bread of catfish.

Beastly cat for NY. That had to be downstream from Scobie hill dam? Nothing that big lurks in the upper Catt.
Must be a 15 or 20 year old fish...
