Morris positioned himself perpendicular to the boards 3 feet away. Kessler came in with speed, so obviously there was a good amount of force in the hit, but not much more than a typical check. What made the hit look ugly was the fact that he was so far from the boards. Whose fault is that? I don't think NHL rules dictate that you as the checking player have to make sure the player being checked is at a safe distance to/from the boards.
