  • This video shows why the red headed woodpecker is sometimes called the patriotic bird or flag bird, because when the light hits it at a certain angle, it looks red white and blue, instead of red white and black!!!! TenStarsplus!!!! for this video!!!!!!!!

  • This is why we don't cut down any tree that breaks - we have seven varieties of woodpecker (including pileated) that visit our backyard.

  • The loss of dead trees is one of the primary reasons this woodpecker species is not as common as it once was years ago. Even with European starlings around, if people wouldn't hack every snag, these birds would not be as rare as they now are in certain places.
