I like yamaha's 4-string basses alright, but the problem with their 5-string basses is that the neck is too wide, which makes them extremely difficult to play. For 5-string basses, I like the Ibanez ones. very comfortable and easy to play. and they sound great. plus, the Ibanez's price is much more reasonable. the Yamaha signature serie's are overpriced.
@cciemail Not completely true about those signature models. This bass, the Yamaha TRB JP2 is so expensive, cause it has a 7 piece, sandwich body. 5 pieces of Alder, Ash and Maple and then a lovely Figured Maple top and back as a finish. That takes alot of time and precision too build, so no wonder it's that expensive. And not too forget : This bass had 26 frets and 2 custom pick-ups.
@cciemail The ibanez signatures are ridiulously priced, the yamaha necks are thinner than they used to be but everyone has different tastes! Like i had an older TRB and i hated the neck (6 string) and i got an Ibanez BTB (love the neck! 6 string) and now i have a new TRB (6 string) and i love it haha
Yamaha USED to make such great basses (JP6, TRB, BBG5, N.E. Models), but all of their recent models are incredibly ugly!...especially the cheap paintwork & dull colours.
Back in 2000, I knew many people who had Yamaha basses but now, I don't know anybody who uses them.
Yamaha should bring back the classy & colourful basses they had in the 90's/early 2000's.......
I agree completely. Every desirable Yamaha bass was made at least 10 years ago and all the newer models look like complete garbage.
Every Youtube, Yamaha bass video has somebody playing a Yamaha model from 10 years ago but you never see anybody playing the cheaper, uglier, newer models?!

Why does some Yamaha endorsers that didn`t get theirs own signature bass guitar?
bemolable 8 months ago
That is a great bass! Yamaha makes excellent bass, I have a TRB 5 in the first series, 1995, and it sounds very good.
