  • Thank you very much what program did you use to record your computer screen. I can record the screen but only on word or something.... thank you

  • Just an idea but I found that as soon as you have the (x+3)^2 or in any example you square the 3 and put a minus sign in front of it. e.g.

    x^2 + 10x -7

(x + 5)^2 Just square 5 which = 25 and put a minus sign in front of it,

    I find it helpful...

  • Thanks to you i dunno why i found this difficult in the first place?

  • @animesrevolver Well it's great to hear you now have it.

  • @ExamSolutions could you go through a whole exam like wjec papers plz plz plz my exam in may need help

  • Handy for the exam tomorrow... Shoulda looked at this way earlier.

  • thank you i understand better now... but how do you get what x is from it?

  • @LizziGinne You cannot, it is not an equation

  • extremely easy :D thanks for the quick revision !!

  • @DarkNova941 :)

  • thank you!!!

  • @auraofadancer Pleasure

  • Whats the difference between equal to and equivalent to?

  • thank you for allowing me to abandon my other way of doing =)

  • This is, by far, the simplest way of teaching this that I've ever seen. Thank you!

  • Thanks - Glad to here it was helpful.

  • Thank you ^^, x

  • I had no idea how to do this before, but now I get it! It's so easy! You are awesome dude, seriously. I'm really struggling with maths though. I'm getting U's. :(

  • ofmg1

  • this is very useful but they obviously have different teaching methods in england. i managed to get the correct answer but in a different and in my opinion much easier way. however this is very clear and explained well so well done.

  • wow.. this came up in year 6 for me..

  • Thank you so much. I struggled doing this in my A Level class but I now fully understand it thanks to you.

  • Pleased to hear that.

  • this is very easy, i think it's for O lvl

  • Is c always subtracted from the end?

I've got my GCSE in 2 weeks or so + I'm just going over a few things I need to remember! :D

  • I'm doing advanced higher maths in Scotland at the moment and I had to complete the square as a tiny part of a question and I couldn't remember how to do it! Thanks!

  • i just learned more from this in less than 5 minutes than i have from my teacher : | ima keep watching, or im gonna fail so horribly D:

  • Thanks very much.

  • Great! Thanks. This is just how our teacher told us to do it and works really well. This has made it really clear for me and I'm sure I'll owe a couple of marks in my exam to you!

  • I forgot how to do it as I keep doing so tyvm, very good clear video.

  • Thank you ecellent tutorial,

i think your going to get me through the yea better than my maths teacher can.

  • thank you ! that was very clear

  • Thank you very much. The way my school teaches it is very confusing.

  • thank you

  • Maths standards haven't lowered since 'O' Level maths or have they? Completing the square was in the old 'O' Level exam paper. Don't let this Labour government lie to you about exam standards improving, they haven't. GCSE exams are about 1/2 the knowledge and skills of the 'O' Level.

  • maths standards have lowered massively.

some of the stuff in C4 and C3 was taught in gcse and practiacly all of C1 was expected to be known before starting a-level/

  • I used to fear 'O' level Maths. Now,GCSE is like a mate I go out for a drink with. 'A' level Maths years ago was like death. To be avoided. Now adays, its like a long lost mate.

  • it was in my GCSE as well. However it's part of my AS question where the rest of the question is entirely different.

  • It's good you like maths. Do you what real world application completing the square is used in? I will assume you do, for others robotics and many other engineering wonders.

  • like 16 years old's maths...

  • Really, you don't say? I'm 16 and I found this very useful. I can actually do it without help, but I'm starting A Level maths and videos like this are really good at going over the most advanced of GCSE.

  • The -9 part could of been worked out more easily..you divide the coefficient by 2 and then square it..in this case 6 divided by 2= 3. 3squared is 9.

divide by two then square it..works all the time

  • i dont get this at all i am in top set and have my exam tomorrow

    HELP!

  • I LOVE YOU <3

    Thankyou- so clearly explained!

  • Thankd You So Much!

I have my exam tomorrow, and this was my weakness!

    :D:D:D

  • thanks you have made ebey thing so much more better

  • i didn't understand this when my teacher at school taught it to me, but your video finally made it *click*. thank you for your great videos!!! :)

  • Thanks

  • very good.

  • at 2:40, this seems so *random*. Isn't there a hard formula or rule to use to figure out what the squared parenthesis should be?

  • only if you want maths to be confusing and illogical...

  • Thank you, its great having a virtual teacher :D

  • Very helpful but how do I solve this one:

    x²-2x-2=0

  • Halve the x value (2->1)

Put it in squared brackets (x-1)²

Find out what you need to do to make the expression above the same as x²-2x-2=0. (x-1)² equals (x-1)(x-1), which multiplies out to make x²-1x-1x+1, simplified to x²-2x+1

However, the original expression x²-2x-2=0 isnt the same as this, and to make it the same, we'd have to -3.

When you put this together with (x-1)², you get (x-1)²-3, which equals x²-2x-2=0

  • Thank you, i think i understand.

  • mais c tro bidon ca mdr et en plus ya des gens qu'apprécient putain -__- les identités remarquables c en 4e quoi

  • thorough. great reference. ta.

  • thankyou so much, 2 days before my maths gcse and now i know how to complete the square!

  • this is fantastic, ive been tryin to balance hours wasted on youtube with hours spent revising maths

  • really helpful thanks!

afterwards you should have put some practise questions that would have been really helpful.

  • thanks that was really helpful
