  • I kind of see that as gender equality(going in, not holding the door, ordering by themselves etc.), in a way. I don't think guys should do anything for a girl just for being a guy and vice versa. I just don't like the bit of men being "superior," I couldn't deal with that sort of sexism.

  • who pays for food when a guy and girl in japan go on a date to a restraunt?

  • @KustomFu Depends a lot, but splitting the bill is not uncommon at all.

If there is an age difference the older party usually pays.

But if were talking about which gender treats more often I think the guy is paying way more often than the girl.

  • but i saw a documentary that the birth rate is low in japanese...the more time you get to spend with your woman is MORE SEX!!!

  • @goe5

Well that goes for 99% of the women of the world i know ;(

  • are you driving a jaguar by any chance. I swear i know the sound of those indicators...? o.o

  • *His Shirt* or Nothing.

  • That's just sad =/

I'm mean, people who are in love take joy in spending as much time as they can with each other.

This video kinda makes it sound like japanese people don't fall in love. that they just want to be in relationships just.. well, just because they wanna.

It's not "cool" at all. It's just cold =(

It just made me kinda sad that's all =/

  • my God that was interesting

So would a sort of western idea of chivalry be looked upon as weakness or being desperate? something like opening a door for a girl or something.

  • I absolutely agree with everything you say in this video. I think it can apply to Korean culture also. I have a Korean boyfriend; I consider him as a wonderful person and really love him, but I know the culture difference is just so big, and it will be an issue in the future if things develop (which I do actually hope!). Cultural difference is what attracts me, but it is also the main source of troubles and misunderstandings. But in the end, we wanna think we are the one exception to the rule^^

  • is that why in the animes there is always that one popular guy in school that seems a little arogant but all the girls fancy?

to be honest, i think it would be quite nice to play the female role in society, i'm not sure if i would like being looked down on though

  • OK I have figured it ALL OUT!!!

Western men are like pet dogs.

    Japanese men are like housecats.

Dogs are ALWAYS affectionate with you. They ALWAYS want to do everything with you, they are ALWAYS by your side, they do what you want

    .

Housecats are aloof. They think they're better than you, they don't feel you deserve their attention. They do what THEY want, they don't do many things for you. They rarely ever spend time with you. It takes them a LONG time to show affection with you.

  • @APuppyNamedSkip Now of course these are all generalities, and not this extreme in real life, but I'd say generally or at least sterotypically, this is the perfect example!!

  • @APuppyNamedSkip

excuse me why are you bagging cats.Random much ...I love kitties so if japanese guys are like cats.. HELL YEAH. I have a house cat who is very affectionate and he has always been nice from when i first got him. I don't get why fricking dog lovers take every opp to insult cats (btw i love dogs too). If you are going to compare an aloof person don't compare to cats, they are beautiful animals. Compare them to a shark, a shark actually wants to rip your head off. Thx

  • @LOLcaNoGaNgSTa Actually I was just comparing the STEREOTYPE I have two housecats too that I love a lot.

  • @APuppyNamedSkip

oh haha sorry i get carried away when it comes to fav animal. You see my kitty is sick at the moment and i kinda try to strangle any one who says anything... i don't know, lol i'm sorry. And i agree that stereotype is a perfect example. Sorry for being a creep. :P

  • @LOLcaNoGaNgSTa Oh it's okay, I get carried away a LOT too, and I love cats!!

I really hope your kitty gets better soon =^.^=

  • bros before ho's

    chicks before dicks

    lol

  • i think it's disturbing how japanese people are embarrassed about affection. i saw a movie where there was a couple and their daughter. you see that the mom and dad have separate beds and when the dad said ai shiteru to his wife, everybody in the family was ashamed and embarrassed. to tell you the truth i found that really sad and depressing.

  • @jodelle6 Japan is more emotionally reserved, it has nothing to do with being sad or any of that rather "Not the right place or time". Because they emotionally reserve things, what they say and do has more meaning. Saying "You're beautiful" here is no big deal. She may blush but that's it, nothing else. If you said it in japan, you're being personal to that person and they might not want to be near you, or will not understand how you came to say such a thing.

  • @narutardtedr i see your point, but i still think it is sad that parents are ashamed of their love in front of their own kids.

  • @jodelle6 It has nothing to do with shame, i don't know where you got the idea just because they're not as expressive, they're ashamed.. but it isn't true. Japanese people just take things more seriously, so words and actions of romance aren't said on the fly. They carry a deep value to them, showing your love in public is more like showing off. They don't show off, or at least don't like to. It's just how their society works, it's has nothing to do with shame though.

  • @narutardtedr i didn't mean to offend you i'm sorry. i'm glad it is not shame.

  • @jodelle6 You didn't offend me o.o...did i give off that feel?

  • @narutardtedr i wasn't sure. in any case i just wanted to make sure you didn't take it as an insult or criticism of japanese people. =)

  • From experience, I would say that girls (and guys) in Japan who are interested in Japan are almost bound to be different from the norm. The fact they even have any interest in foreigners is going against the norms so I would say rather than look at stereotypes, one could say that your ideas only apply to japanese people who don't normally go for foreigners.

  • i saw a McDonald's in the background around 4:00. have you tried the chicken tatsuta? was a temporary thing, i think. pretty awesome!

  • Well DUUR cause in america you gotta kiss some serious ass to get a girlfriend and being desperate is a biproduct of "OMFG i have one finally!" tell me something would it be easy to convert to their way after being desperate for quite some time?

  • I love pretty much every single thing about japan so im born in the wroung blace XD

  • yeah, I live in switzerland but my boyfriend in Japan wants to marry me, and its really hard not to know what to do.

  • You didn's say anyting about ... well ... sex.

    What about that?

  • @Juchan09 okay, I really doubt this guy has any experience having sex with japanese men... XD

Also, I bet it's a little too awkward for him to ask japanese women about it :P

  • @TheReasonWhyGuy Hahahaha!!! Ok, now that I think about it you might be right. XD

  • I hate it, when people kiss in public.

I think that’s so disgusting and impolite.

I also couldn’t imagine seeing my boyfriend every day. O.o

The last one I had I saw 2 – 3 weeks in the year. (We were 5 years together btw – official together)

  • so if you are polite and stuff to your girl like hold open doors etc. .. do they see that as bad?

  • Hours of videos on this eh lol. I would love more videos on this type of topic!

  • Kobayashi Kamui!

  • i cant remember which video it was but i believe it was this on or maybe #21 but you said that you think the guy walks infront of the girl because he thinks "hes head honcho" or something like that lol But i did some research out of boredom and i found out they do that more like an escort. So they can Escort the female to a destination. :) keep up the great vids!

  • I love how you said, "I have really dated any guys" WELL DUH xDDD

but thanks for reassuring us ahahah

  • Sorry about my really BAD english but...yeah :D

I`m from Sweden and wants to work in Japan whit hotels (maby stand in the lobby and help the guests out whit things like hotelrooms and other stuff) but im worried to falling in love whit a japanese guy haha! Im freaking scared xD LOL. maby cuz they are so cute!!!! i just cant stop looking at them xD haha. But If i meet "mister right"......I cant live whitout my family. ÄÄÄ go for it! :D hehe.

  • I enjoy all of your videos very much, but I REALLY enjoy the ones where you are driving around. I get to look out the window and enjoy the scenery! :D

  • Is your fiance Japanese?

  • So, if all of this is true then why IS IT that way in animes? I really think that's an interesting point you pointed out. I personally think that it's kind of a secret desire they may have to be lovey dovey, but don't because society is too obsessed with being "cool." And if that's not it then maybe they just wanted to display japan relationships from another spectrum. who knows...????

  • Lol thats what my girlfreinds complained about me didnt spend alot of time with them

  • People who are saying that Japanese guys are jerks are wrong. This is just a different culture. If you don't like it, don't come to Japan. If you're not prepared to adapt to another culture in another country, then there's no point going to that other country.

  • @SamGlover25 Well, some might be jerks. You can't just say it's the culture because sometimes it isn't. I won't do things just because it's normal in a culture, I will be polite, but if someone is what I consider not good company I won't hang around them.

  • @SamGlover25

An interesting point, but I know a few Japanese women, most of whom live in Tokyo, and they are not too crazy about how they are treated by men and women's role in Japanese society in general.

The "it's their culture" notion should not excuse people within that culture being treated as lesser citizens. The role of women has been an issue in many cultures.

It is not unreasonable for Japanese women to expect to be seen as equals and "culture" should not prevent that.

  • @gillianorley - I agree with this. If it's just "the culture" and we should accept it as simply being fine because of that, then why did women in the US gain rights? Why did the blacks have a civil rights movement? It was "the culture" back then, no? So that should have been perfectly fine right? See....how that argument is flawed?

  • @AkumaXKami Thanks.

Since you mention the Civil Rights Movement, it's worth noting that even slavery was defended as being part of Southern "culture."

Southern slaveholders referred to slavery as their "peculiar institution" and even claimed that their slaves were better off because, as valuable property, they were well taken care of and liked having their "masters" providing food, shelter, etc.

I'm not saying this is equivalent to slavery, but it shows how far the concept can go.

  • @SamGlover25 Considering that Japan has some of the worst sexism in the world with women comprising of very little in governmental representation (Pakistan has more!!), it's understandable why some would conclude that Japanese men are jerks. Obviously over-generalizations aren't 100%, but it's understandable why women would not want to date a Japanese man. They won't be loved, or at least they won't be loved in a familiar way. BTW I pray to God that never end up in Japan, even on a layover.

  • @Divinecovenant0012 Have you ever been to Japan? We have one of the lowest crime rates and have a 2% divorce rate. Quit being a racist, it's disgusting

  • @goe5 How can I be racist if I have Japanese friends AND I have counseled Japanese people? Your critique is rather hollow. More importantly, Japan's "low crime rate" has more to do with the reporting that with actuality (especially considering their definition of rape), but even taking that into consideration Japan does have a low crime rate compared to say Latin America or USA, but not much difference from Western Europe.

  • @Divinecovenant0012 you still didn't answer my question. Women are respected highly in Japan, THE ONLY FUCKING REASON everyone thinks Japan is horrible is because only the bad stories are reported. Every news station is like that, take into consideration of what goes on in a daily basis in Japan. It is very peaceful, and you honestly think no one reports the crimes? Look up no looting, Japan is the first to come up

  • Comment removed

  • @goe5 ..is the best society in the world. In fact I would say it's on the upper half but not the best. However, when you speak about "best societies" you are treading puritanically difficult waters, and it's hard to avoid pejoratives when commenting on such things. However, you need to look at another video by JapanChannelDcom that talks about how bad sexism is in Japan. I think it's called "Japan sux #16." BTW wikipedia is not the best resource for everything.

  • @goe5

ummm.. you think letting a door slam in someone's face is being respected?

it's not. lol. and i've heard of women being beaten for hours who called the police, and they didn't absolutely nothing because she wasn't bleeding, and when they left, she got beaten for hours more, and thrown around. Japan has it's bad shit, too.

  • @310BPM MY GOD YOU PEOPLE ARE PATHETIC!!! I LIVE IN JAPAN!!!!!! This stuff doesn't happen on a daily basis! We respect women! We always have!!! In fact, most Japanese women choose to get married to Japanese men cause white men were too rude around other people. Don't believe me??? Go to my country and we'll see who's wrong. QUIT saying Japan hates women, it's disgusting.

  • @goe5 Also when you speak of divorce rate, I'm wondering if you wikipediaed that statistic. In any case divorce DEMOGRAPHIC and divorce RATE are vastly different because they are calculated differently. Japan's 2.2 is not that much different from the USA's 3.4.

  • @Divinecovenant0012 Look up sexism on wikipedia, you won't find a single trace of Japan unless it's from world war II. Time for an upgrade to your education don't you think? ;)

  • @goe5 If you want to continue to believe that Japan is without it's problems, then go right ahead. Perception does not change reality. But it's best to hold your emotions because more often than not you will fire bullets from your mouth only to completely miss your target.

  • @goe5 Lastly, send me an inbox message if you want some more evidence of sexism in Japan or you want to troll/flame further as we have already crowded up the comment section too much. But I highly recommend JapanChannelDcom's videos #16 Japan Sux and #72 Discrimination in Japan.

  • @goe5

uhhhhh.. he was just talking about how sexist Japan is in the video.

  • @SamGlover25 Basically your comment amounted to "Japanese guys aren't jerks! You are wrong! Don't come here if you don't like it!" No culture in the world is incontrovertible, and every place on earth has things that are wrong with it. Japanese treatment of women is one of those things.

  • @SamGlover25

thank you very much. I totally agree!

  • how are chinese guys perceived in japan?

  • what does japanese think about a foreigner couple?

  • what do you do in Japan? are you a teacher or work there? or maybe a student ? :)

  • Do they drive on the left side in Japan?

  • @karfeegu123

    yes

  • Hmm...Now I see a difference between me and japanese girls.. that's like the only thing I won't tolerate from any guy...o.o

  • Sooo Um Mr. Japan are the guys in Japan like douchebags? This is what Im geting a real Douche vibe like its normal there I understand but mmm idk thats kinda sad. <=(

  • This is almost the opposite in Hong Kong! Most, if not all, hong kong couples are beyond lovey-dovey... almost clingy with respect to western standards.

  • you can still be a bit chivalrous in public though right?

also if you were to act very nice and affectionate to your japanese girlfriend in your own home how would SHE see that?

  • Just had a thought~

Maybe it's the way relationships work are a little different in Japan.

Because, originally, marriage used to be an arrangement; practically a business proposal.

So, that probably leads to relationships being more about future security more then romance. Though romance has obviously slipped into the culture through manga, romance, and western influences.

  • Hmm... I think you should do more videos on Japanese relationships. I dunno like what exactly but maybe something random and interesting. XD Haha.

  • r u from new zealand?

  • I'm not saying what they do is wrong but in my opinion, the guys in japan are total jerks. I'm asian, i know what type of guy i am and me myself don't even like how i treat my girlfriend but what japanese guys are doing is just too much. I would make time to spend with her at least 3 or 4 days a week. If a girl makes food for me, i would totally love it even if its not the best tasting food in the world cause i know she cares for me and that's all i need to treat her with respect and kindness.

  • @AndyDude1412 that's very sweet. Stay that way and I'm sure your girlfriend will love you more each day. ^-^.

  • it's common in the usa also..sounds normal to me!

  • so do you treat your wife in this way or do you treat her relatively like a western guy?? or a bit of both?? =/

  • Here theres a few japanese-quebecois couple but except mine I'm aware of only male quebecois with femal japanese. This combinaison work not too bad if the guy is serious about it. Quebec men put a lot of attention in there girlfriend usually and the relation man-woman is quite open, it possible for men or women to stay home take care of the kie, work, cook, clean.. So Japanese girl I know like that they can be independant women who can work and not take a to traditionnal woman's role.

  • I'm a girl in dating a Japanese guy. And I'm going to meet his family this August. But I do agree with you. In my case the bf like other culture a lot and he want to live in another country later on because there is thing he likes less about japense culture. But we do have some missunderstand, I'm lucky though he will explain thing and I will explain and with a bit of effort we will understand eachother. But you need 2 partner who can adapt to the other easily. Not everybody can do that.

  • Paw waves at the other girls!

It sounds like their independant of each other but together, which can work really well for some.

Sounds like my kind of place - although I would probably be to heastrong for a Japanese Guy.

  • I like your Bridgestone shirt, guy.

  • But what if one of the guys that are japanese i see there actually would open the door for me.

  • I want to date Japanese guys too!!!

  • At least you don't lose your friends when they are in a relationship

  • Japanese guys can be REALLY great as friends, although when I went to Japan 2 years ago, I found 3 assholes that discriminated the women at a cafe, including the customers! I'm not sure if it was just their personality, but please remember if you are a girl, Men WILL think less of you. For example: Girls aren't the ones to start a conversation...

  • Real Talk: I prefer Japanese guy friends over my American guy friends, no homo

  • Most guys have nice butts so of course women might want to walk behind to look at the butt. :p I'm currently dating a Japanese guy, and yes I may get to do something with him on a Sat evening with the rest of the time he's either working, studying, or doing whatever with his friends. I will say he's a lot nicer than the Americans I've dated.

  • 2 words feminist constituency. u make a vid about how men shouldnt come here to hurt women and then make a video dedicated to how bad men are to women in japan and how you suggest they shouldnt even go out with them? sexist? nah, men in japan get used all the time financially you said it yourself Japanese people confirm so you wont hear them complain about it... its sad that US women are corrupting even the females in japan now they unlike Japanese men can have their cake and eat it too

  • @themaniusedtob ...do WHAT?

  • I love Japan boys they are so HOT

  • I just went on a date with a Japanese guy today. I had the time of my life, he was such a sweet heart! The only downside was this major earthquake that came and ruined it for me...and as i was typing this I felt another after shock...

  • I LOVE JAPAN BUT AM NOT FROM THERE

  • japan is so me...i was born in the wrong place

  • @kyryacos me too !

  • haha american men are the same. they might even be worse actually....

  • i always wanted to date a japanese guy but hearing this sound really bad >~<.....I can't say is true or not cause I'm not from there and I never dated a japanese guy thanx for the info but if I go to japan and date japanese guy first ask question get to know him and see if we in the same level that like the first rule in all dating get to know your partner before making fast move another thing you point out is losing your country rights that something to think about. pretty much that it^^

  • Sounds like all men.

  • I am addicted to your channel, keep the good stuff coming you YOUTUBE junky!

  • I heard that japan that a mans job comes first then his family comes next...is that true?

  • I'm Scottish and my boyfriend is Japanese. We've been dating for 2 years but in the early days it was very difficult due to the cultural differences. Exactly what you said, in Japan the guy leads and the girl follows and being a western girl my first reaction was **** that! but in he's also very affectionate (even in public) and extremely caring and always wants to spend time together and although cultural differences are still hard I feel very lucky to have found him <3

  • Learn MBTI. Learning an individuals personality can save grief.

  • hmmmm, guess my experiences are a little different ;)

  • @AisuErufu I am glad you two are happy! :)

  • I swear I'm seeing the same cars swooshing past in the background. =P

  • Lol, love how you're recording this while driving around. XD

"Hmm... it's gonna be a bit of a drive... Let's film another 'How To!'"

  • @AisuErufu congrats! well, you know you deserve a wonderful man like that. i wish the best for you because i wish that will happen to me when i study abroad!! :D

  • my friend from europe lives in japan with her bf now. shes always complaining that her bf is always with his friends or at work than with her. and they don't got out together.

  • @AisuErufu I envy you! Congrats :D

  • What about Guys dating guys?

  • @ISBERIK

    "how to #23"

  • @ISBERIK ROFL.

japan isnt about being little bitches.

    they have standards.

  • I love Japanese guys. They are so gorgeous <3

  • This is the first time I watched your video and I just want to say thank you for posting. I am a girl who is completely in love with Japan. I think you are extremely lucky to live there because I want to live there soo much it's not even funny.. So thank you for posting something like this(:

  • @AisuErufu he is very cute for u

  • I apologize as I normally don't double post but I feel this is worth talking about a bit further. Japanese women in the workplace is becoming more and more common. The time which is spent at home many women are expecting men to hold a more even responsibility that normally is associated with women. So yes relationships in many aspects are quite different in Japan. Although in this case how much of that responsibility is shared between partners seems to be a different story.

  • I would agree with this but there is one aspect which doesn't get talked about alot. This is in regards to Japanese women who choose to stay single! This is becoming somewhat of an issue in Japan. While what is said here is completely true. I know of many Japanese women who don't like it. They mentioned men who expect their wives to cheerfully surrender their jobs or juggle a career while single-handily serving their husbands & caring for the kids. It seems not all are accepting of these roles.

  • @Chibua Of course not! :D

  • I desperately wish I can have a western girlfriend/wife, but are they enough western women for me to get married to?? lol

    Someone please!

  • @jp10IamMeNotU bless your little cotton socks. XD

  • @emROARS Thank you~.

  • @jp10IamMeNotU I can be your friend :)

  • @hanakofuyumi Sounds nice! Thank you!

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom It's also entirely possible that a Japanese visitor to the US has done their research on US customs, so maybe he wouldn't even do that at home.

  • I saw McDonalds!!
