  • If Carlsberg built strategic bombers.............It is a national disgrace that XH558 does not receive ANY vestige of financial support from the UK government. One of our finest examples of engineering prowess, and our stupid, myopic politicians cannot see the merit in supporting this inspirational piece of British engineering. It ranks alongside Concorde, yet the buffoons who call themselves politicians offer ZERO support. Far better to spend money on teenage single mothers.....

  • 558 was the first aircraft i worked on after training whilst she was part of 27 sqn. I have and will support her for as long as I can

  • Just seen the Vulcan today @ Sunderland airshow!:) and i'm speechless

  • what song was that being played at the begining of the video?

  • @lukusism "Theme from Harry's Game" by Irish Gaelic band called "Clannad"

  • strange playinng an Irish song used in a film about the struggle of the Irish Repulican Movement with the Union Flag flying in a video about an ex-British forces piece of hardware......lol just an observation......

  • Without Doubt our Greatest Bomber Aircraft still flying today, & the greatest achievement of AV-ROE, if only they were still with us & making Aircraft today.

Thumbs up if you want to see the formation of a "Cold War Memorial Flight"

    (all three V-Bombers / TSR-2 / Lightning / Canberra for example).

  • I'm proud to be one of those grown men with Vulcan grit in my eye!

  • I Live in Doncaster And The Last Vulcan Is At Robin Hood Airport If Anyone Wants To Go And See The Last Flying Vulcan In The World, Go To Doncaster Airport Viewing Is All Day But She Might Go In To Retierment Viewing Stops On The 2nd May So Get To Robin Hood Airport Now To See Her In Her Pride And Glory.

  • This video made me cry.

  • Now that the Concorde,Blackbird,F-14 Tomcat,F-15 Eagle, and RAF Nimrod do not fly anymore.

The B1 Lancer ,F-111,and the XH-558 RAF Vulcan are now the loudest in the World.

  • @BBQFanNo1 Actually the General Dynamics F-111 Raven/Ardvark is no longer flying, as it was retired years ago (in the US & Australia).

Besides the F-111 is not worthy of sharing the same list as "XH-558" or the B1-B Lancer*

(which is much more impressive/capable than the 111 ever was, & much better value too as the 111's development was a nightmare for the USAF / RAAF & RAF* [which pulled out]).

Plus F-14's & F-15's are still flying all over the world (Iran for example has multiple Tomcats').

  • I've donated and look forward to seeing her where she belongs in 2011.

  • The song is the Theme to Harry's Game by Clannad. I think it's in Gaelic and loosely translated means violent death is a waste (how ironic)

  • Check out v=Djd1pPQZ_LE to see what i mean!

  • Have just donated! standing at the end of the Yeovilton runway having this awesome aircraft abort a landing over your head was one of the most amazing experiences of my life would hate to see her grounded after so many years of hard work to get her flying again.

  • as beautiful as this aircraft looks without any sponsors on, i think, should the day come if we do not have any sponsors left, that they should seriously take up on the branson offer. come on, a small red V next to the ejection stickers may blend in a bit :P

i wish the RAF could sponsor it....considering they got a good few advertising logos already on there :)

  • What's the song used in this video? its moving...

  • @theothertrainee

Moya Brennan and Clannad - Harry's Game I am pretty sure. Type it into u tube. There is also a great mix called Saltweater with Chicane on here.

  • From Canada. I have donated several times. As one of the CWH Lancaster crew I know what it costs to keep flying. Lots of small donations can be just as great as one big sponsor so dip into your wallet or PayPal account and do your bit. Anywhere in the world can use PayPal so go from here to the Vulcan to the Sky web site and drop a fiver or two.

  • hadn't heard about the Branson offer either, however even if there was substance to it, as I undertand, part of the Heritage Lottery funding was the requirement for 558 to carry a representative livery, meaning no adverts. The few test logos stuck to the inside of the bomb bay doors are apparently OK because they aren't on the outside.

  • I love the Vulcan the first time I saw her was at farnbourgh air show (I think in 2007 not sure) that howl she makes made me wana see her every year for as long as she flew but to now no that she may never fly again ( God forbid that) makes me sad so every pound coin I earn at work I will donate to her and I hope she will continue to fly in the future. Please help keep her flying everyone

  • Awesome. My nan died recently and she was the one who introduced me to this beautiful plane in the 70's and 80's. Seeing this plane fly always brings tears to my eyes as great memories of my nan and me at farnborough flood back. There is no other sound like her engines growling. Keep her flying.

  • Donated,(again!) Why oh why does it always fall to the public at large to support worthwhile causes by personal charity, while those in a far better position to help stay silent? To me it seems patriotism is now a dirty word in this politically correct Britain we live in. But I refuse to let that deter me! If she is never to fly again, then I'd hate to think I didn't make the effort in my own small way. Although money's tight, I gave what I could(probably more, but don't tell the wife!)

  • Brilliant video ! Delta lady brings a tear to my eye everytime i see her. I hope funds can be raised to keep her in the air untill her flying days are at an end. Long live the Vulcan and as i say a seriously hope she can return to the skies in 2011.

  • Please keep XH558 flying

I've done my bit now everyone you do yours.

Why don't we all donate £5.58. I'm sure people can spare that money. Especially if it is to see this fabulous aircraft fly. She shows how britain once led the aviation industry and also the nuclear antidote that worked in the darkest days.

So for every person that clicks on this video. Please donate £5:58 or anything you can get.

  • The Vulcan is a unique icon, she was way ahead of her time and represents a superlative piece of British design & engineering. She is right up there with the Spitfire, Lancaster, Hurricane, Mosquito & Concorde. It would be criminal & tragic if we were to allow this beautiful masterpiece to slip from the skies forever. The Vulcan was Britain's Cold War sledgehammer-she helped keep the peace and the Russians their side of the border. Now we have to fight for her! GET YOUR WALLETS OUT!!! :)

  • What everybody who wants to see this machine keep flying has to understand is that neither the Government or the National Lottery or Richard Branson or anybody else is going to magically come to it's rescue. If you want to save the Vulcan and keep it flying, it really is down to you to send the trust some money. Doesn't have to be much - £5 will be enough if lots of people do the same! Don't let it stop you from giving to other causes but please put a little aside for this British icon!

  • @zakcapriturbo branson said he would fund it for the rest of its flying time untill the fait full day comes for the main wing spar is declared not safe{5 years } i think.but they said no because branson wanted a red V on the air craft some where and that was not well looked on so they said no.

  • @redhotbarrell Thanks redhot. Where did you hear that About R. Branson? I am a member of the VTSC and it's not something I have ever heard before. I've always been led to believe that big corporate sponsorship was pretty much a dead end due to the negative connotations (nuclear bomber, British, hugely environmentally unfriendly etc etc) TIA

  • accountz99 and malt22 - thanks very much for helping. As you rightly say, every little does help!

zoso11 - the answer is rather a lot. The VTTS trust suggest the annual operating cost is in the region of £1.8M!

Hornetfodder - 558 has previously been given lottery money, it was a struggle to get that because at the time the project was a little outside of their scope. Yes, they fund some 'interesting' projects at times, however it is up to them to decide what it is used for.

  • I kind of get what homefodder is driving at, but there are better ways to convey that. I was praying id win the euro millions tonight so i could go, ok i have 80million, how much do you need until 2014 when she's all worn out, on the basis of a flight in the cockpit as payment ofcourse, but alas.

It would be a dissapointing end to what the people at the VTTS have acheived if she has to stop early, but she took off just as britains money was crash landing. Still, its a roll over next friday!

  • When I was at school I was in the RAF Cadets, and on one summer camp we went to RAF Coningsby, where they were flying Vulcans. All the crew loved them and were proud of them. One of the most beautiful aircraft ever built, and probably provided some of the background to Concorde's delta wings. I've contributed previously and again this year - not much, but as the slogan says "Every little helps"

  • GREAT !, THE LOTTERY FUND WILL GIVE MONIES TO FAGS & DYKES TO HELP BUILD A SHED, FOR THEM ON SOUTHPORT PIER!!!

BUT NOT TO PRESERVING OF BRITISH HERITAGE GIVE THE VULCAN AN ARTS GRANT FOR THE LOOKS AND MUSICAL SOUND FOR A GRACEFULL AIRCRAFT. LOTTERY GIVE ""THE SPIRIT OF GREAT BRITAIN"" A PROPER GRANT AS THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT TO OPEN THE OLYMPIC GAMES FLYPAST IN 2010.

THE NATIONAL LOTTERY WASTES SO MUCH MONEY ON SO CALLED GOOD CAUSES ..WELL LOSE SOME THIS WAY!!!! ON A REAL GOOD PROJECT CAUSE !

  • Hi Hornetfodder, In reply to your posting. I find it offensive in the language that you use, and it is also most likely inaccurate. You also seem to have forgotten that XH558 would not be flying at all if it wasn't for a lottery grant. It would be best for all if you kept your homophobic remarks to yourself and put your energy's into fund raising to make sure XH558 flies next year.

  • This is a fantastic video. I have just donated. Keep it flying please. If you have never stood at the end of a runway when the Vulcan goes into a vertical climb, you have never lived.
