@KillerCostello It doesn't really matter how long it is. Butterfly needles hurt more usually. She used a vacutainer. It only hurts when you first insert the needle. I've been drawn on1-4 times a day for a month now since I'm in Phlebotomy school. =) A I like vacutainers or syringes the best.
@LittleMissBuzzkill butterfly needles don't hurt more for a few reasons 1) they are physically smaller 2) they are attached to the vacutainer through a tube/pipe, so when they change the little container/tube of blood the needle in the arm doesn't move 3) it doesn't need to be held, therefore allowing for less human error (movement wise)
