  • Right on Pete Seeger for having an open mind! god bless all of you.

  • Shawn does the songs justice though his technique at this time seemed a bit slim. No pop artists ever went beyong a basic proficiency and that includes our beloved Hari Georgeson, Brian Jones and Dave Mason. But Mike Heron of The Incredible String Band played pretty well. See "The Iron Stone " on youtube. Peace

  • I love it.

  • I had forgotten Shawn played sitar too!!

  • Sitar is a Pakistani instrument; it's not Indian. Best sitarists were from Pakistan such as Rais Khan, Sharif Khan, Nafis Khan, Vilayat Khan, and many many more. Indians have just gotten the credit by their propaganda.

  • @ajrahi for real???i thought pakistan and india were united until 70 years ago,i may be mistaken though

  • @herbalist420ganja The Sitar is distincly a North Indian instrument. Decended from the Persian Seh-Tar (meaning '3 strings) which is still played today. Yo Yo Mah featured a sehtar player on his 'Silk Road" release. Sometime in the 18th cent. methinks the Sitar as we know it came into being with its 19 or 20 strings, sympathetics. True they are all over India and practically the symbol of All Indian Music. The Vina Family are the strings of South India Carnatic Music.

  • Its incredible how they synchronize the voice and sitar here, real treasure music, the real masters.

  • Wow. Thank you SO much for this posting. Shawn will play next week with Donovan for the 45th anniversary of Sunshine Superman in England. I wish I was there! This is incredible! All my respect to my friend Shawn, Juliette and Liam. Love you guys. ~Eric

  • Sounds like Incredible string band

  • @tatomyr Yes but this came before the ISB sitar period.

  • Is the Sitar an Indian instrument?

  • @bluffed12 yes it is.

  • This had to be in the late sixties or very early in the seventies! Awesome. Shawn very young.

  • @wski7 1966

  • What a tri(p)o... !!!

  • brilliant, not many people making music as good as this at the moment unfortunatley

  • beautiful

  • oojibar - It's stunning for this time, too. Stunning for any time. Absolutely love this side of Donovan.

  • yes, mtopper66, it is entrancing and oddly affecting. I agree. It's like a balm for the mind.

  • awesome video ! thanks !

  • Thank YOu!

  • Wow, very, very good live performance of this awesome song!

  • Check out IN GOWAN RING it looks like the same O__O

  • I remember Seeing Shawn play the sitar many "moons" ago. I remember the interaction with the audience, about how most sitar players had a small container of coconut oil ,but you preferred to use nose oil, Because you never forgot it !. A memorized audience somewhat came to life.

  • Oh God- nobody can take me right back to the '60s quite like Donovan can.

  • STRAIGHT TO HEAVEN IN 1967,AND ALSO 1966 ha ha ha

  • incredible...

  • Im not on LSD at the moment but I am totally freaking out at this incredible mindblowing video. WoWoWoW!!!! Special autistic favy.

    Ps

    Smoke pot and be free

  • I really enjoy this as well a truly rare video.

  • Someone else mentioned that Donovan's (classical?) guitar strings are a bit puzzling. Could just be the age of the video, but the top 4 nylon strings really do at least appear to be the same thickness.

  • oh, man what a mindblower

  • Really cool stuff!!!!

  • never seen this before.... it's just..... stunning for it's time.

  • great stuff, thanks for this song.

  • Great song and perfomance! A lot of thanks!

  • 2.25 , what kind of strings is donovan using ? they all are of the same thickness.

  • @jimrock63 They might be nylon or gut strings... I"m not really sure though

  • my favourite donovan song. perfect mix between folk and indian music

  • better the version in the study!!!

  • En 1976, j'ai connu...Shawn

    En 2008, Shawn est ...connu

    nobody is perfect....

    Je suis français ...

The myriad reflections of myself in the buttons on her navysize navycoat ?

  • i love this song. one of my favorites!

  • This used to be on YouTube, was one of my favorite all-time clips (and one I never thought existed in a million years till I found it here--ULTRA RARE, this!), then was taken off, now I've found it again and all is well in the world once more. This brings tears to my eyes every time. It's like natural codeine to me, or something...hard to describe the feelings this magical mystical piece engenders in me: the meditative calm and feeling of being transported out of my body-anyone feel the same?

  • i couldn't have put it any better. thank you.

  • so is shawn on the sitar! amazing instrument!!!

  • I love this song! thank you so much for posting!! Donovan is amazing!!!!
