  • He must wet the road on purpose to try to get the official results!

That might help a lot to get to the official results!

I bet VW engineers did the 5.7sec in a lake or something like that.

  • Manual ! Especialy on cars like the golf R.

Why do you want a DSG taking away the fun ?

  • Who cares about an extra second of acceleration time? The manual is more fun to drive, hands down.

  • The car is not the issue!! The issue is the person behind the steering wheel.. Thats all..

  • The DSG is an amazing gearbox... But i would prefer a proper manuall box...

  • Does the golf R have some kind of artificial engine sound a la M5? seems to howl a bit like a 6 cylinder engine from the inside but sound like the quite dull 4 cylinder turbo it is from outside

  • @joetol Yes, it does have a noise pipe to increase the noise inside the cabin

  • heavier 19s on the 4 door manual, lighter 2 door car w/ 18s on the DSG.

  • Well, DSG is great, but if I buy used I would prefer a manual. DSG will cost more to fix in the long term

  • another difference you missed out is that the blue Golf is 3 door unlike the 5 door red golf xD.

  • This is kind of dumb. This is just supposed to be a fun car to toss around and it's always been that if you want a quick golf, you get the manual. The only exception would be if your daily commute consisted of harsh traffic.

  • @SmokeEm122 I'm talking about British in general btw

  • @SmokeEm122 or because the manual is way more fun and engaging to drive, you can't be brainless to drive manual, you have to know what you're doing, so thy aren't brainless for liking manual, you're brainless for liking auto

  • surprise surprise

  • I didn/t watchthe video yet but being and engrish video I bet they will favour the manual. not because the like it better but its more appealing to those brainless macho mocking brits

  • I Have driven a Golf GTI Edition 35 yesterday and normaly I am a fan of manual gearboxes but the 6 speed DSG in GTI changed my mind, I love it. The Audi A5 7 Speed gearbox was not that good in this car I would prefer a maual gearbox

  • Go manual if you're an idiot!

  • @gav25x lol, if you want your car being stolen get an automatic

  • @dieselboy77 What makes the auto easier to steal?

  • @gav25x in America thieves can't drive manual transmission cars

  • @dieselboy77 I'm sure they can figure out how to use the paddles, unless they're really dumb :-)

  • @gav25x uhm they can't figure out , 80% car thieves cant even start car equipped with manual gearbox

  • So the 2dr Golf R, which is lighter than the 4Dr, is faster and more economical with the DSG than the 4Dr 6-spd. But I bet you anything, the manual is way more fun!

  • I'd bet VW never tried that loading up the turbo with the handbrake bullshit !!

  • @zjm68 what do you mean ? i want to know hehe im curious.

  • @zjm68 lol totaly agree

  • I dont give a fuck if the DSG is "more consistent" ill take a manual anyday. Plus, maybe you should try using cars with the same number of doors.

  • @datpimpinboy how heavy is the 4dr compared to the 2dr?

  • thanks for the good intentions VW but for that money i rather buy an STI or an EVO

  • @ricky041878 EVO FTW!

  • I hate that VW didn't bring the DSG to the US. I love manual cars and I know ppl are gonna smash me for saying this but I'd have the DSG model. I like the entertainment of paddle shift and the ease of use of the auto on my daily drive.

  • Arnt the roads damp? Or is it just me...

  • dsg has launch control.

  • what is the measurement instrument he look at?

  • Perhaps VW uses michelin pilot super sport tires for their testing.

  • The idiot has the A/C activated in the manual car.

Everybody knows that A/C drains power from the engine when it is on...

  • Comment removed

  • On the DSG, I don't have to put it into manual, I just push it down into S mode...

  • Why use the handbrake?

  • I have a Golf Mk5 1.9TDI with the manual gearbox, mapped to 150bhp and 265lb ft torque. As I'm getting another Golf Mk5 next (either the 2.0TDI, GTI or the 1.4TSI 170), I test drove a 1.4 TSI 170 with the DSG box. I've always said "Manuals are better", blah blah - but honestly, I found the DSG brilliant. It was a great gearbox, responded well, smooth, plus with the paddles on the wheel it's as much of a manual as anything else. Blips beautifully on downchanges too..

  • @jamiebridges123 hi! umm i have a couple of questions if you dont mind. ok so first. hows ur mpg on your TDI and what do you do for a living? TY!

  • @antidescent hi mate, sorry didn't reply sooner, been busy. I average about 55mpg in my TDI (UK MPG) and I work in IT and Networking as a job. :P

  • I would have the manual.

Driving experience isn't all straight line

  • DSG is faster

  • Daily driver/city liver = DSG

Living in a rural area = Manual

  • i think whats more amazing is not so much of which is faster or better, but the fact that the DSG maintains the same time for all 3 runs.

on a personal note.. i definitely prefer a conventional manual still.

  • well he did the say the engines werent broken in yet, and the roads were damp which cant help

  • Is the road not wet?

  • Doesn't matter if the DSG is faster. Been driving manual for only 4 years, and that DSG crap just takes the fun out of driving a true manual gearbox. The day manual is no longer available in any automobile is the day driving will become boring in my opinion.

  • @neverending4181 agreed

  • Thank god this car's not stateside to shame my GTI

  • @carloscabrera08 Actually, it is now!

  • @wkeown d'oh.

  • @carloscabrera08 wrong go to the vw website they sell it now in the usa

  • You should compare the reliability between DSG and conventional 6 speed manual gearbox

  • What's the point of how fast DSG is if it's always in the shop?

  • MAYBE your not a professional driver, duh

  • this guy doesnt know how to launch that car

  • Well i've noticed beside the damp tarmac that on the manual gearbox run ac was turned on.at minimum, but on anyway.

  • handbrake????? why??? i think it would launch better if he just planted the clutch petal and rev at about 3000 rpm without the handbrake...

  • Damp track won't help either

  • Manually shifting is a bit more fun ... but you what isnt fun? Coming second constatly. DSG *tick*.

  • well isnt the 4 door heavier?

  • VW test use a skinny driver to get 5.7 sec...lol

  • 2 door Golf is lighter, so the blue one should anyways win.

  • @juxonix8 whatever, dsg is faster...

  • @juxonix8 yh but a automic gearbox is heavier so.

  • Of course DSG is gonna be faster, that's the whole fucking point of it. And half a second slower acceleration in a Golf, is not the end of the world. Manuel 4evah!

  • Manual gearbox fan boys are the same people who continued to use slide rulers after the calculator came along.

  • I got a Passat 1.8T last year as my first car, I'm hoping this will be my second :D

  • i seriously dont know where he got the idea from that using the hand-break would produce the quickest run....like honestly, i know it works but when your trying to get a quick time down you don't do that lol

  • I used to be one of those people that dislike the DSG transmission until I really tested one and I got enlighten, the idea here is control over the gear changes, and DSG gives you that control at the blink of an eye. I live in U.S. but I think getting a Golf R over my current R32 MkV is out of the question, the only thing I like about the new R is the improvements in the suspension and the looks of the new body, other than that there's no justification, performance numbers are disappointing.

  • on a slippery road. very accurate measurement....

  • The people who keep saying to buy manual "to make you a man," please.... You're just compensating for something you don't have. Ahem. There is a reason the DSG sells 50/50 to the manual, let people buy what they want. Some people want this car to be an everyday driver, not a weekend bruiser. They want something livable they can drive in traffic and be comfortable in while being fun to drive. I'd like you to drive in SoCal or NoVa traffic and tell me "DSG is for pansies". What a bunch of losers.

  • dorifto

  • As everyone has already said, this comparison is very poorly done and is not well thought out at all.

The DSG car also has 18 inch wheels on, while the manual has 19's on. The 19's are obviously heavier and guess what? Heavier wheels/tires = slower car.

  • DSG is for pussies. A good driver knows one has way more control over a car with a conventional manual gearbox.

  • hardly comparing apples with apples here steve!!! one's a five door the others a 3 door. There are some weight differences there stevie!!!!!!!!!!

  • i would buy a car with manual gearbox anyway

  • @1000000bhp I agree. Driving a manual is just so much more fun to drive in my opinion

  • At manual start, he would keep the revs at about 4k, but it drops massively when he releases thee clutch. You can listen to how much more revs of the line are stable on the DSG run

  • With a manual tranny AWD car, if you can't get all four tires to break loose on the launch for a moment, you will *never* get the fastest 0-60 time. That is simply how it's done, whether it's an R, R32, Evo, STi etc.. Do it wrong, smoke the clutch. DSG has an inherent advantage in 0-60 because it takes virtually no time to shift, thus no break in acceleration. Each shift in a manual costs 0.5 seconds of no acceleration per shift. Is why many cars only require one shift to get to 60.

  • aircon is on, thats not gonna help

  • you weight like 200 pounds FAT ASS !!!

  • I know it's childish but still 3:04 makes me laugh

  • Next car will have DSG for me

  • YOU ARE HEAVY.....THAT'S WHY CAR SLOWER....

  • It's like he's surprised that it takes NO skill WHATSOEVER to drive the dsg

  • Unless you go for a big turbo setup you should go for a DSG, mine is a 7 speed one and i was initially concerned about it's operation, but it works perfectly and also did a remap, and the result is even greater

  • @lordoftheriffs79 Speaking of a reamp, the 7 speed already has remap options? The 6 speed has some options but i've never seen anything to the last one one, the dry DSG...

  • @VanTheManSLB of course, mtm abt and recently revo has separate files for dsg equipped cars.

  • @lordoftheriffs79 Idon't know if you got it... i'm talking about transmission software. Change somethings like teh auto upshift, the auto kick down, etc.

If you're talking about that, sorry!

  • What a twat! Learn to drive you ponce!

  • Bring back the VRsex.

  • buy DSG if you're not a man and can't handle driving stick

  • This fat cunt don't know shit.

  • you're also on a wet road you stupid fuck.

  • when you do tests like that you want all the power from the car.....why do you have AC on while testing???don't you know that it can cut a bit the power of the engine??

  • My stock 2003 24V VR6 GTI can hit 60 MPH in 6.5 seconds. I raced a manual Golf R today (VW exec's car here in the midwest), and we were neck and neck from a standstill all the way up to, and at, 60, 70, and 80 MPH!

  • Peró il condizionatore é acceso....

  • Unless you are in a getaway car waiting on three fellow thugs to come charging out a bank with lots of loot...............what reason would any normal person need to get form 0-60 in ten seconds !!!! BAFFLES me totally when this crapola is featured on a car constantly. Should'nt these people be concentrating on SAFE driving !

  • @dalquist Good drivers don't need to worry about safety features. All that matters is the driving experience.

  • is it just me, or does he shift weird from 1st to 2nd?:

  • He lost all credibility when he said the cars were the same except for the gearbox.

One has 5 doors, the other has 3.

    Idiot.

  • @VagabondEXE and the fact that the 5 door would weigh more than the 3 door

  • 6 speed manual all the way in a street race it will beat a dsg with the manuals engine breaking

  • the 2009-present Volkswagen Golf is assembled in

    Wolfsburg, Germany

    Changchun, China

    Jakarta, Indonesia

    Pekan, Malaysia

    Solomonovo, Ukraine

  • Maybe he should give it some more revs and drop the clutch a little harder... not exactly launching

  • for me the dsg gearbox kind of takes away the soul of driving a car. there's no feeling behind driving with a dsg. you're just there pressing the gas to make it go while the computers are doing the real driving. where's the fun in that? i enjoy slamming gears one after the other, heel toe down shifting, getting that perfect rev match. it's not driving a car it's more like playing a video game. yeah it's fast but there's nothing there.you should get a rush driving and dsg just doesn't work for me

  • fail video....automatic gearboxes are only for idiot drivers...they may be faster but at an actual road u need a normal gearbox to have full control of your car.

  • @RockLegendLeo Really cause last time I checked every F1 driver has paddle shifters, and I'm pretty sure they aren't the easiest cars to control going 150 MPH.

  • @RockLegendLeo yep!

  • stickshifts are fun, but dsg is the shit...especially for a daily driver. I drive a gti with dsg and I must say that it is worth the extra $1500 unless you plan to buy a weekend tuner.

  • DSG is faster, more efficient, more consistent, and more comfortable. It makes manuals obsolete. We'll have 9-speed DSG soon, and prominent makers such as Lamborgini are already abandoning manuals. If I'm paying $54,000 for an Audi, I'm not paying for ancient tech and to shift the car myself. Transmissions don't get you laid -- a nice car does. If you genuinely find stick fun, that's fine. The rest of you, lose the masochism. Some people don't need to swoosh around a stick to feel like a man.

  • DSG is more expensive to buy and maintain - I'll survive without the 0.5s 0-60, if I'm honest.

  • cars a/c is on that will lower the usable hp tho.. and wet floor that would reduce the tires grip because of temperature of tires and also its wet more slippery ground, more skid = slower you accelerate

  • Okay ! so you are on wet floor, changing gears earlier than you should and slower than you should. I wonder why ! GO GET YOURSELF FORD FOCUS

  • Who the f!@#$ tries 0-60 using handbrake, 3rd gear and a wet road!!!

  • How about you idiots taking it for a DRY road?

  • first of all its wet and dude don't use the e brake to start! :p

  • dual clutch gearboxes are certainly faster than manual ones... but there's another truth, none of them is robust as manual one, or as the older auromatic gearboxes. too much tork kills the couble clutch gearboxes... and for ex a dsg gearbox costs about 11000 euros in my country, plus vw doesn't accept that it's a production failure... so it's still so risky to buy such a car, no doubt about that!

  • Hes showing what hes showing, nothing more nothing less. FFS its a video - does he need to give a narration that "its slightly overcast down here". No its a video and he isnt the fucken weather man. Its a run in the above conditions. Golf R owners thinking there car should be an M3!! Pfft..

  • Everyone comments on how fast the up changes are in a dsg gear box. But no one talks about about how slow the down shifts are. I will give you an example. You come into a 2nd gear cnr, in a manual you hard on the brakes 4 Th to 3 rd and then 2nd, using the clutch to match the engine speed. As for the Dsg, 4th to 3rd computer thinks about it for a while until it thinks the engine speed is ok. 3rd to 2nd the same again. As a golf r owner, who has driven both transmissions, I would never go a dsg

  • this faggot holds the gear stick like hes holding a dick

  • Personally, I prefer a manual transmission. Maybe it is slightly slower than the DSG, but it's more fun to drive than DSG... I've had other cars with the Tiptronic auto trans and they are better than a standard auto trans, but it's just not the same... I'm also not a fan of the cars that have the Tiptronic shifters on the steering wheel since if you are turning at a low speed, the shifters are possibly upside down.

  • Wet road + AC on is your problem

  • too bad DSG wont be available in the US; which includes Canada as well i guess.

  • 5.7 in the wet? Cant they see the road is wet?

  • The runs are on a wet road which doesnt help. A good Auto is allways faster than a manual though, cause you can just keep it planted and gear changes are soo much quicker. Iv'e always prefered manual in small cars, but this makes me think otherwise

  • You need to lose a few pounds for the 5.7 sec ...

  • Kill the aircon for a few more hp's...

  • don't know why.. i still prefer a conventional manual box.. ^^

yeah, i know the automatic box these days are faster than the manual.. but it never gift the same fun like using the conventional manual.. ^^

    just from my opinion..

  • @JustMyHobbies

DSG is just amazing. BTW each time you change gears a kind of silenced shotgun is made....just wonderful...

Can't get back to manual then...believe me..

  • @meilua77 i've tried the DSG too ^^ i like those technologies.. they are great.. an advancement of a convensional automatic and manual transmission, but for fun i still prefer the old box.. i like them but i don't prefer them.. that's what i mean..

  • @JustMyHobbies

Provide you have fun, that's all folks :)

  • eisai vlakas

  • I noticed he actually put the gear into manual mode and not sport. Obviously he knows that the computer system will automatically shift it anyway to prevent engine damage.

  • @jrgti80 Manual mode is "sport mode" too.Manual mode just gives you the option to shift with the knob instead of just the paddles if you want. Other than that there is no difference. I rarely use sport mode.

  • @beyondremote In sport mode it holds the gears longer before changing, so you can drive it like a manual. You obviously don't have one! There is a big difference between normal and sport modes and manual mode.

  • @urbex2007 Relax dude..I have a 2010 gti with dsg...Read what I wrote again. Im just saying that manual mode is also sport mode. I said nothing about normal mode. Ever try to launch your car in manual mode? It still works right? Now try it in regular drive<--nope.

  • @urbex2007 Also, stick it in manual mode but don't manually shift and see what happens.

  • maybe cause you too fat... slowing shit down...

  • obviously personal preference plays a role in what kind of car you want to drive, and you have to take into account that preferences are entirely subjective. driving a manual is loads of fun, feeling that extra bit of connection to the car, but I love my DSG all the same. it keeps the revs high and changes gears at inhuman speeds. a far cry from a regular automatic slushbox, since it's essentially two manuals mated together with a pneumatic clutch...

  • DSG -How boring, i mean sure it's quicker but manual is fun !

  • so dsg is automatic pretty much?

  • If u use the DSG u wil miss the DREAM OF DRIVING A CAR !!!

  • maybe turning the A/C off would allow another .1 sec or so? on 4-bangers, in my experience, that sucks a bit of power.

  • "it's not quite as quick as the VW Claimb should be..."

it's not quite as dry as it should be... for a test -.-

  • Ah the Internet.... Where a 16 year old little boy is a wise tough ass, however In public he is coward.

  • Best £1300 you could spend?

    possibly...

Until the gearbox breaks and you have to pay £5000 to replace it

  • DSGs are rediculously fast and are an amazing piece of engineering... that being said at the end of the day i'd rather be driving off in the manual golf than the DSG golf... if you have the car shift for you where is the sport in that? idk guess im just a purist but imo its just more fun with a manual, not gonna crucify someone for getting an auto though lol

  • This video is utterly useless. If we wanted the numbers we could just go to the VW site and read the specs. What he should be providing the viewer is his subjective opinion driving the car on roads and not just drag racing the car. This dude should turn in his credentials. Manuals will always be more fun and more engaging to the driver. There are people out there that like to do a bit more than steer and accelerate

  • WRC uses automatic gearbox, f1 racing uses automatic gearbox, need i say more...

  • @TacoManTuesday F1 and WRC use semi automatic gearboxes, also known at flappy paddle gearbox. This is because they are slowly being pussified by the shitty french FIA and their politics. They once used manual until people though that professional racing should be safe and sane, something that it isn't supposed to be

  • @ rock3tcat - I learned to drive a manual in 1991 before you were born. Manual is dead. Accept it and shut your f*ck hole. It has been proven for years in numerous models. You can move your left leg back n forth because that is THE ONLY action you will get f@g f*ck.

  • @knonow ok so your trying to tell me that almost all the cars in Europe (which are manual) are dead? please, enlighten me on this. manual will NEVER die, no matter how much you think so. manufacturers will still make manual, because a big percent of their market still uses it and buys it. that would be Europe and basically everywhere else but japan and america. do some research, and please, next time have a logical statement. it makes you look dumber with the way you spelled your curse words

  • @agntroboy1995 Ok so an angry little 16 year old knows all about cars? Haha....typical youtube'r. You will eventually see manual dissipate in the industry.

Manual = 6 shooter. DSG = 17 round Glock. Checkmate BITCH. There I spelled a curse word for you since you can't seem to figure them out. Fucking Cunt.

  • @knonow I fail to see any logic in ANY of your statements. You also fail to see that you are the angry one here, not me, sir. Also, if you apparently know so much about cars, and claims that manual will disappear, then why is it that almost 90% of all race maneuvers can only be done with a standard transmission? I don't see heel-toe being done in an automatic or DSG transmission. I could go on, but I wont. I wont waste my time with you, the typical immature youtuber.

  • @agntroboy1995 rides a bicycle and pretends to get philosophical on people when he doesn't know a fucking thing. We are not impressed.

Oh I am not angry at all. How can I get angry over punk kid? Lets get real.

  • @knonow So I'm the punk kid here? I believe you're the punk. You are acting more immature than me, and I cant talk to you without losing about 5 braincells per reply. You also failed to counter the facts I stated, therefore, you are the one that does not know a thing about what you are arguing about. YOU get real and get a life. Don't waste your precious time in your mothers basement when you could be driving your expensive DSG car. Good day.

  • Comment removed

  • @knonow Why are you becoming so desperate to win this argument? I'm stating valid and true facts, and you just ignore them. Signs of ignorance. Not wanting to reduce ignorance is stupidity. The fact of the matter is, manual will not die. Whether you like it or not. This conversation is over.

  • Comment removed

  • @knonow What a typical immature response. You have stated nothing. Your arguments are invalid. You are invalid. You are a waste of breathing air, and I'm pretty sure I've been in high school longer than you have. You're acting like a little kid spewing out immature things out of your pre-pubescent kid mouth in your adult body. Learn what your going to argue about before you argue about it. Like I said before, this argument is over. P.S. You're so desperate, its even easy to see on the internet.
