szpilman is polish, but he's wearing a german coat that the german officer gave to him, thats why they try to shoot him.

In this case they DO (at least considering the nationality of the liberating troops). Soviet soldiers wore either round helmets or caps quite different from those worn by these POLISH, I repeat POLISH soldiers in the movie. Check any clip from "Enemy at Gates" for Soviet uniforms as they are depicted quite accurately there. I'm from Serbia - Yugoslav People's Army used the same types of caps and helmets as the Soviets, so trust me I know what I'm talking about.

if you watch the movie, they talk about the Russians advancing onto their base. the polish attacked around the middle of the movie and lost.

No they're not. Read the script. There are polish uniforms with polish eagles on the hats. The soldiers are part of the Polish People's Army, polish armed forces created on the soviet soil during the german ocuppation.

Small correction. They are part of the First Polish Army commanded by General Berling, which fought under Soviet command on the Eastern Front. There was also a Second Polish Army under General Anders which was also formed on Soviet soil but was allowed to leave for the West and fought on the Western Front.  The People's Army (Armia Ludowa) was a Communist partisan formation.
