  • I hate this racquet , i sold both of mine , they are way to stiff and hopeless if you are use to a well controlled racquet for volleying , dont buy it , it feels like your swinging a block of wood with a massive piece of cardboard attached to it for strings . Make sure of what you buying - its stiff

  • i just got that pure drive and the day after the new one came out T_T

  • hi, I've been using the AG100 for 8 months and now am using the blx6.1 tour. I love it for it's serves and weight and I can swing fully at the ball (more fun). while they are super fun to play with, I want a bigger easier racquet. I love my friends aeroprodrive for it's ground strokes, but I can't serve at all with it for some reason. Thinking about PD Roddick now but I heard it's similar to the LE Agassi? That was WAY too much power for me...is the PDR more similar to APD or agassi LE?

  • i have a pure drive roddick actually the one u are reviewing not the plus and do u think rpm is good string for it

  • Are you going to review the new 2012 Pure Drives?

  • @PKSkorpionMark2

We are currently playtesting the new Pure Drives and Pure Drive Roddicks. Reviews will be posted in February.

    Spencer, TW.

  • Epic Racquet!

  • Hi Chris

I'm having a hard time choosing between Roddick GT and Aero Drive Pro GT

I like the feel and power of Roddick GT, yet I think i can get a bit more spin with the ADPGT. I think I can swing it a bit faster.

I'm thinking to get Roddick GT and add 8-10 grams to inside the handle so it is easier to swing the racket faster to get more spin.

Will that work? Which one should i get?

  • @denisonn,

You can make the Roddick more headlight, but that will not lower its swingweight. We cannot lower swingweight by adding weight, only by removing it. Removing weight is very difficult. The easiest option would be to bring the AeroPro Drive GT up to the Roddick spec incrementally so you gradually get used to the increases in weight. I would go with a weighted up AeroPro Drive and then maybe look at the Roddick again when you are used to heavier racquets.

    Chris, TW

  • Hey can you guys recommend me a racket, I'm a baseline playing looking for a racket that will provide more topspin. My skill level is between 3.5-4.5 and there's three stick that are in my mind; babolat apd, pdgt and pdr? thanks

  • i play with blx six.one federer. i play one handed backhand and i was planning to switch racket for more headsize. but i have a concern when it comes to my backhand and PDR's 100sq in. isnt it harder to hit a one handed backhand with bigger head size?

  • @AesirSovann,

There is definitely something magical about how a midsized racquet comes through the hitting zone on a one hander, however, I have no issues with the regular length Roddick GT. Considering you are able to handle the Six.One Tour, you should have no issues with the Roddick GT. The Plus is more challenging because there is the sense of much more racquet to get around for an early contact.

    Chris, TW

  • I have the plus version and I use a low tension. But lately I feel a little too much power with the tension. I use bobalat RPM Blast string too. Should I raise the string tension or change the string? Please answer back!!!

  • @ThexSavior1,

Increasing the tension will be the easiest adjustment. RPM Blast offers tons of control, so you should not have to go too high. Try bumping up 3-4lbs in tension. Also, monofilament strings like RPM Blast lose tension very quickly, so you should restring every 2-3 weeks if you want to persist with that kind of string.

    Chris, TW

  • Hi TW Team! From the last 2 years I've been using the KBlade Tour 93, and I've been dealing pretty well with it. Though recently Ive moved from the UK to Spain. I've started playing and practicing mostly on clay courts. Hence, I was looking for a racquet that could allow hitting my strokes with more spin and serves with a bit more pop. Im equating changing to the BLX Blade Tour,Aeropro Drive GT or PureDrive Roddick GT

I'm more of a baseline player with a good serve. Thank you for your attention

  • Is the babolat pro huricane strings good for the plus version?

  • @MrTheOscara,

Yes. It will amp up the control and spin potential while still leaving lots of power to be found from the racquet and its extra length. It is exactly the kind of string I would use in this racquet.

    Chris, TW

  • Are there any strings to help tame the power of my pure drive roddick?

  • @PKSkorpionMark2 Try stringing it up with a polyester at a higher tension. Use a stiffer poly as well, something like the Babolat Duralast, Gosen Polylon ice, Kirschbaum Spiky Shark or Poly Star Classic.

    Jason, TW

  • where are all the other playtesters

  • @darrmulv

Every once in awhile, we will do a "one-person" review on a certain product. These are usually racquets or shoes that are not in the scheduled line-up for play testing, though significant enough that we feel would benefit consumers.

    Spencer, TW.

  • I loved mine, Very solid racket, may be too powerful for others. I feel it's too stiff. Just be careful, this caused some shoulder problem for me. It might be because of my poor technique. lol

  • I string with

    Pro Hurricane (Durability) + N.Vy (Playability) 58lbs

    get great top spin

  • This review is right on! You really know your rackets. After changing from a Prince Graphite Pro for so many years, my game is much more powerful and volleying improved-which I didn't expect. Serves are easier and from the baseline, this is a BEAST! I believe that this for advanced players if you want to maximize it's potential. Weaker players may not generate enough power over other racquets. For the power players, this is a must demo!

  • chris can you please put back up the reviews for the youtek prestige?

  • @tenniswarehouse

what is the bottom line between a PD, PDR, APD and Head Prestige MP/P?

looking to move on from tweener K 6.2

  • i love your tennis court

  • I have the pure drive before the roddick version but should I buy this or the new pure storm because my friend has the old pure storm and I love the lightweight and feel of the raquet its really nice I just wanna know what to buy

  • @triplex4286,

If power and spin are you main objectives, go with the Roddick. If you are looking for feel and control, go with the Storms.

    Chris, TW

  • @tenniswarehouse thanks

  • tennis warehouse>tennis express, awesome review

  • would pro hurricane on crosses then pro hurricane tour on mains be good for this racket?

  • @TripleJShotzZ,

What are you trying to achieve with that hybrid? I can't see a benefit of hybridizing those two strings as opposed to just going with a full set or either. I would just go Hurricane Tour for a full set, but you could hybrid them and would probably find playability to be very, very similar.

    Chris, TW

  • what string set up would you recommend for this racket?

  • @1steveiam,

In the video I'm using Topspin Cyber flash 16 and I used a poly or co-poly for the entire moth-long playtest. I like to use a poly type string to get the most control and spin from these racquets -- there is still a ton of power on tap even with the control oriented string.

    Chris, TW

  • what strings were you using in this review?

  • i'm only 12 years old but i am very big for my age, i use a babolat pure drive. Would this racket be too heavy and too big for me?

  • @TheCaluzz,

You should be fine with the Roddick version. If you are concerned about maneuverability, go with the standard length version over the Plus.

  • I was wondering what racquet would you reccomend for a sophomore in high school. Im looking for a racquet that generates power and top spin and maintains control. So far im deciding between the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick GT plus, Dunlop Biomimetic 300 tour, Head Youtek Extreme Pro, Babolat Pure Drive GT plus, and Dunlop Biomimetic 200 Plus. Please Help.

  • @xxKiller14,

Most of those are great choices and fit what you are seeking. With the Dunlops, you should look at the 500 and 500 Tour for similar performance rather than the 300 Tour and 200 Plus. The feel of each is going to be slightly different and will likely be the deciding factor. I recommend you demo them (only $20 for shipping to demo 4 racquets from TW) to decide which is the best fit.

    Chris, TW

  • Thank you very much @tenniswarehouse. This will make my racquet choice easier.

  • @tenniswarehouse

To be more precise which would be one of the best racquets for players seeking a lot of control?

  • @MegaDevilDiablo,

Volkl Power Bridge 10 Mid, Head Youtek Prestige Mid, Wilson Six.One Tour BLX, Dunlop Biomimetic 200, Prince EXO3 Tour 100 & Tour Diablo Mid, Babolat Pure Storm Tour and the Yonex VCore 95 would be good choices.

    Chris, TW

  • I know this hasn't got anything to do with this vid, but I would like to know which racquet would be suitable for a player who pases ball with not a lot of power but very deep, goes to the net regulary, makes lots of drop shots and at last uses slice often.

    @tenniswarehouse

  • What racquet is suitable for a 13 year old teen?

  • @botakchee,

The Babolat Pure Drive GT or AeroPro Drive GT racquets would be a good choice.

    Chris, TW

  • @botakchee i would recomend u my previous raquet, the babolat drive-z tour. its better for a joung teen because its weight, balance and forgiveness with the off center shots. the pure drive and aereo pro drive are way too heavy and they would hurt your elbows. :)

  • Between the pure drive gt and pure drive roddick which one do you reccomend ? Also what strings do you recommend for putting spin on the ball

  • @xxKiller14,

For an advanced player, this one with a poly. For an intermediate, the Pure Drive GT with a multifilament.

    Chris, TW

  • @CrossfireCritic,

Those racquets are so close in performance that it could come down to the shape of the grip. The Head handle is very rectangular, whereas the Babolat grip is rounder and slightly larger feeling in the same size. Because as tennis players we feel everything through our hands (as that is our point of contact with the racquet) the grip shape is very important. Try both handles to see which is preferred. As far as power, spin and control, the racquets are much alike.

    Chris, TW

  • I've heard this is the most powerful racket out there...would you agree with that? I'm a power player and I use a lot of topspin, so I would like something to really whack the ball with.

  • @asparch,

Yes, in the hands of a solid player it is one of the most powerful racquets. The Plus packs even more power and is the version used by Roddick.

    Chris, TW

  • what is the diffrence between the Pure Drive GT & Pure Drive Roddick GT ?

  • @Joynson67,

The Roddick version is stiffer and heavier. Both combine to offer more stability and power, but less maneuverability compared the regular version.

    Chris, TW

  • @tenniswarehouse

Hey Chris, I was wondering if you could tell me if this Pure drive plus is good for a One-Hand backhand. If not which of the Pure Drives are. Thank you

  • @xXxWontonxXx,

I prefer a standard length racquet on my one-handed backhand since it is easy for me to get around. You can get much of the power of the Pure Drive Plus with the standard length Pure Drive Roddick, thanks to its extra weight.

    Chris, TW

    Chris, TW

  • @RustyShakofurd,

You will get the most comfort, feel and power going with a full bed of multi or natural gut. There are many good multis: Tecnifibre NRG, Wilson NXT, Babolat XCel, Gamma Live Wire, Isospeed Professional, Klip Excellerator, Pacific PMX, Prince Premier LT and Yonex Tour Super 850 Pro etc.

    Chris, TW

  • @RustyShakofurd,

The difference is exactly half an inch. The standard version will feel faster and easy to swing. The Plus version takes more work, but offer more spin and power potential. If control is the main focus, go with the standard, if you want power and spin, stay with the plus.

    Chris, TW

  • How would you compare this racket with the original pure drive ? which would you prefer ?

  • @fishbaitwhohaha,

I prefer the added power and stability of the Roddick version compared to the regular Pure Drive. That added power and stability comes from a slightly stiffer beam and some extra mass. As far as comparing the Roddick GT and the Roddick Cortex versions, the difference is in the feel -- with the GT feeling more dampened.

    Chris, TW

  • ANSWER PLEASE!!! Which is more control orientied? PURE DRIVE GT or pure drive RODDICK VERSION?

  • @serbtennnis3,

Both are more about power and spin. You can increase control by using a co-polyester string. As far as which frame will off the the most control depends of the type of player you are. The Roddick version is heavier so will offer more control to the stronger player with its stability. The Pure Drive GT is lighter and faster and will offer more control to a wider range of players thanks to its maneuverability -- easy to get into position, easier to find spin etc.

    Chris, TW

  • The 1st and 2nd generation PDs are better, but these are easier to come across, and you don't have to add lead tape, etc because it's starting weight feels just perfect.

  • Which racket gives you more control? regular pure drive GT or roddick version?

  • TW, ANSWER PLEASE!!!

  • I demoed this racquet along with the aeropro drive. I like the roddick gt plus a little better because it had insane power and spin! I cant wait to get this racquet for christmas!

  • I am 14 years old and playing with a beginner racquets and weighs 275 grams so I seem to have the might like speed and spin: D! @tenniswarehouse

  • o my lord this is an advanced racket cant you use advanced players to review rather than noobs. junior players are perfect for reviewing

  • im in the same dillema with seasmoke. which would be better? the six.one blx 95 or the pure drive roddick gt?

  • @mac97,

They are very different racquets. If you are seeking power and spin, go with the Pure Drive Roddick GT. If you are looking for more control and feel, go with the BLX Six.One 95.

    Chris, TW

  • @mac97 demo first

  • hey,

i play with kinda spin, but also with power like roddick.......

i heard that roddick racquet is mostl power and it really hard to do spin .... is it true ?

    what racqutdo you reccomend ?

  • @ytgtennis,

With the Pure Drive Roddick GT I get great power and find it very easy to get spin. If you are at all concerned about the weight of the racquet but want something similar, try the regular Pure Drive GT of AeroPro Drive GT.

    Chris, TW

  • @tenniswarehouse the aerpro drive is rafa nadal racquet ?

  • @ytgtennis,

    Correct.

  • Hey, im looking for a racket with more control than power what do u suggest?

  • @zeidan1994,

Try some of these control oriented racquets: Babolat Pure Storm GT, Wilson BLX Six.One (any or all 3 of them), Head Youtek Prestige (again, any of the 3), Volkl Powerbridge 10 Mid and Midplus, Prince Tour Diablo Mid and Midplus, Yonex RDiS 100 Mid and Midplus, Dunlop Aerogel 4D 200.

That should get you on the right track.

    Chris, TW

  • Great review. I'm stuck between racquets. The Wilson Six One 95 BLX and Pure Drive Roddick. What do you think??? Thanks!

  • @seasmoke5151,

Have you hit with both? What did you like about each? What are you using now and what are you seeking from your next racquet? Let me know and I'll have a much better idea of where you are heading on your racquet journey. I can then help you find the right direction.

    Chris, TW

  • hi chris. I'm close to making a choice between two racquets. The Babolat AeroPro Drive GT and the Wilson BLX Pro Open. I've been using Wilson racquets all along. As a baseliner with a cross court backhand which one is better? - Meaning better directional control. I do not want the stick doing all the work for me. I want the control And putting shots away on the run?

  • @Unknownentry75,

First off, both are great sticks, and you can't really go wrong with either. The softer flex of the Wilson Pro Open could be the decider here. It will be the racquet where you are doing more of the work, but it will offer slightly more feel in return. It sounds like feel and control are important to you, so that tips you in favor of the Pro Open.

    Chris, TW

  • hi chris, I need your help, between head youtek radical pro - b.p.drive roddick gt +.

In your opinion which one has more power and top spin

  • @renatopo2009,

The Pure Drive Roddick GT Plus. The extra length is going to give you more power and better access to spin. At the same swing speed, the tip of the longer racquet will be moving faster. A faster racquet will allow you to spin the ball faster as well as get more pace on your shots.

    Chris, TW

  • hey chris i hope that you would anwser my question im a advanced level junior player im 13 years old and 172 cm tall and i want to ask you if i can use the plus version of this racket or shal i just stick to the standard????

  • @MrNikolajdkk,

You are definitely tall enough to use the Plus version. It is harder to maneuver as it has a higher swingweight due to its length. However, this is something you would get used to as it is not that high (measuring 336 on the RDC). The Pure Drive GT Plus is another option as it offers the added length at a more manageable weight. If you are concerned with maneuverability, it would be the better option as you could always add weight as your strength/technique develops.

    Chris, TW

  • Hey Chris help me im stuck between rackets i cant decide whether to get the Babolat AeroPro Drive Cortex or the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick? dont tell me to demo or any of that.i know u have tried both rackets.tell me the differences and in your opinion which one do u like best? tell me the pro and cons of each.and does the aeromodular technology make the swing speed faster? i have all theese questions.plz ansswrer and tell me hwich 1 racket i shuld buy.ill buy it rite away from tenniswarehouse

  • @mudda001,

Hands down I prefer the Pure Drive Roddick. Better stability, more power, plow through, heavier shots + more comfort. Much of this is due to its added weight, but it's also stiffer which adds to the mix. The AeroPro Drive is faster through the air, so it can be easier to get spin and swing fast (especially on serve) but that's about it.

Get the Pure Drive Roddick -- it is still easy to swing fast and comes around quickly for its weight.

    Hope this helps,

    Chris, TW

  • @tenniswarehouse ty soooo much.....this really helped

  • @tenniswarehouse last question........which one has better comfort and better sweet spot?

  • @mudda001,

The Pure Drive Roddick will absorb more shock thanks to its added weight. You can get the AeroPro Drive to be as comfortable by adding lead, but it stock form, the Roddick is better.

Comfort can also be improved by using a soft string (natural gut, multifilament etc) and by stringing at a low tension.

    Chris, TW

  • Im looking to get a new racquet, ive been looking at the Wilson BLX pro open and the pure drive roddick but cant seem to make a decision. I'm a base line player, i can get plenty of top spin on the ball but sometimes lack power with the spin to get good depth on the ball. Two handed back hand. Usually Hit flat first serve and spin on the second. Any help on which one to buy ?

  • Im looking to get a new racquet, ive been looking at the BLX pro open and the pure drive roddick but cant seem to make a decision. • @mrpigster95,

I found much more power from this one due to the stiff beam and weight of the racquet. For me, the Pro Open just didn't come through the ball as well to push it deep into the court. Of course, you can get more power from either by lowering string tension and going with a multifilament or natural gut, but all things equal, the Pure Drive Roddick wins on power for me.

    Chris, TW

  • @tenniswarehouse Thanks for the help.

  • This is a great racket, and I feel like it is forcing me to play at a higher level to use it; it doesn't understand forgiveness at all. The 27.5 length on the racket really hurts serve if not used to hitting with a 27.5 racket; as opposed to a 27. When you hit for power, technique needs to be flawless in order to keep the ball in bounds. But, I still like the racket, dispite it being the hardest racket for me to learn to use. I like it because it puts less stress on my wrist and arm.

  • I bought the head Youtek Radical Midplus for some months ago and I feel that the racquet doesnt have enough "firepower" (power and spin) . I looked at this racket and Im thinking about buying it , but I am worried about my 1 handed backhand , coz I am used to the control of my Head racquet and I am not sure... any help?

  • I don't get how the GT plus can be lighter, and have a faster swinging speed than the standard. I like fast swings with power. Which racquet do you recommend? One thing that's keeping me from making my decision is that I'm scared that if I get the plus version, I won't be use to the .5 inches while serving. Also, I don't want the swing speed to be too slow. It's hard making the decision.

  • @mustacheDAWG,

It is not lighter. It has a higher swingweight due to its added length. However, that added length also results in more tip speed for the racquet due to leveraging the added length. More tip speed can help you generate more spin and pace. To get an idea of how this works, think of ten people linking arms and turning in a circle. The inside person can rotate on the spot, the outside person would have to sprint to keep up with the line.

    Chris, TW

  • does it usually go out of bounce? since it has so much power? I use the Babolat AeroPro Drive GT and it still kinda blasts out. How is Pure Rodick compared to the AeroPro drive GT?

    Please respond

  • @kenisinoregon,

It offers a lot of power as it is also heavier. You can try to add more spin or use a dead string like a polyester or co-polyester to increase control. If you hit the ball flat or use a natural gut or multifilament type of string, you might find a racquet like this to be too powerful. Spend some serious demo time with it before you make a decision.

    Chris, TW

  • 2 bad u guys aren't in Texas

  • I bought this racket! Can't wait for it to arrive.

  • I just ordered the racket from you guys. I bought the standard length (27") because I tend to whip my forehands and it's really difficult for me to do that with a plus sized racket. I strung it with Pro Hurricane Tour strings at 64lbs. and I love it. I can hit a heavier ball, with more pace and topspin with some decent control. My serves have greatly improved too. Very nice racket.

  • @ hongfa23yt Give our customer service a call at 800-883-6647. We'll see what we can do for you.

  • @tenniswarehouse I call you this weekend , thank you very much.

  • I bought many things from TW, at some place, they do buy one get 2nd one 20% off for performance racket , i wonder if TW do that too?

  • @hongfa23yt ,

We will price match any authorized US dealer.

  • @tenniswarehouse

OK i will get two of Babolat Pure Drive Roddick GT Plus, 2nd one 20% off. and both of them free string(this is what goft smith offer). if you say yes, I order this weeken.

  • Can I Come And Playtest, Ive Got The AeroPro Gt?

  • what racket would you say is better pure drive gt or aeropro drive cortex?

  • Comment removed

  • where do you guys playtest

  • @LordMess2007 We have an indoor court at our facility here in California.

  • Thank you for this review. Best one so far.

  • I really like this racket but this racket will hurt your arms. I have good techniques and never had any elbow problems, but this racket gave me sore arms, elbow, wrist, and shoulder. Before I hurt myself badly, I went back to my older racket and the pain went away. Great racket but babolat should think about making it less stiff in the future.

  • it looks like you guys are playing tennis in a warehouse

  • We are. Our indoor court is located in the back of our warehouse at Tennis Warehouse.

    Chris, TW

  • what are those shoes? are they the aussie open barricades or something?

  • Yes but USA ship to norway!

  • Both TW and TWE ship to Norway, just not for demos.

  • chris is SO OBVIOUS that he's advertising the racket. oh well as the saying says... "BUSINESS AS USUAL". let spencer do the weekly blogs and speaker of this reviews

  • Yes , how does demoing work? its says that I only pay 11 dollars to demo this. Is this the final price? Last time I bought a racket I had to pay like 42 dollars extra for shipping fines. I live in Norway. please answer

  • We do not currently offer demos shipped to Norway from TW Europe. Sorry.

  • which racket is better for juniors : This one or the Head extreme microgel pro?

  • They are very similar. You should demo both to see which one offers the feel you prefer. As far as the level of power and control, they are very comparable, so it's likely going to come down to feel as to which you prefer.

    Chris, TW

  • chris wat happened to ur one hander?

  • I have a lingering wrist injury that is preventing me from comfortably hitting topspin one-handed backhands. Switching to a two-hander seems to be helping the wrist heal without taking time off. I'm pretty pleased with how the two-hander is coming along, too.

    Chris, TW

  • This is a great review. I am getting a Pure Drive Cortex 100. I have played for about 7 years. Is the pure drive cortex a good choice for me?

  • now this is a great review, so helpful and well made

also the tennis player has great technique, not like the tennis express videos

thank you again this was very helpful

does tennis warehouse sell in europe?

and if it does, must i order from the US branch or can i by a racket from a UK warehouse?

  • There is a tw europe website. You can use that.

  • Babolat came up with materials which have been used before, i mean graphite and tungsten were here long before.

  • What are the main differences between the Roddick GT and the standard GT?

  • The Roddick versions of the Pure Drive GTs are stiffer and heavier. There's more power potential from that mass and stiffness, plus better stability. The downside is they are not as maneuverable.

    Chris, TW

  • those are sick shoes, and you have a friggin tennis court in your warehouse....I would KILL for a job there......tell me you need a plumber.

I am using last years model, the model without GT, is it worth buying a couple new ones, does the GT make enough of a difference to consider it a game changing stick?

  • I'm wearing the adidas CYD (Change Your Direction). They come out Jan. 1, 2010 and will be available at Tennis Warehouse.

  • what shoes are those and when do they come out?

  • i have this racqet and its great i highly reccomend
