  • its not a war on drugs, its a war on freedom of choice

  • haha i like how the government calls the guy a czar, like he is a russian king or something. i guess they are as ruthless and souless as a russian king. thats how you know this country if fucked up.

  • marijuana is not a "drug" like crack or meth as most of the u.s. population(as stated by cnn even if the government does) Barrack is a smart man he has to this slow! the same way taxes were rased. this just gives him more control over the "drug war". you got to think of all the cops envolved the city, county, state, DEA, FBI and the army of "do-gooders" with cell phones. give him time it will happen!

  • They cannot keep pot out of the prison system , much less keep it off the street , all they can do is create a situation where people will lose their lives,Kids will be exposed to crack and meth and heroin,But hey ,, the government stands to make a lot of money in forfeited vehicles and homes,so its a win for them .Didnt Biden take an oath to defend the constitution?Maybe thats why Barak took his oath in private.

  • Originally, the title Czar (derived from Caesar) meant Emperor in the European medieval sense of the term, that is, a ruler who claims the same rank as a Roman emperor, with the approval of another emperor or a supreme ecclesiastical official (the Pope or the Ecumenical Patriarch).

  • weehee new nazis.

  • more of the same attack on our civil liberties. thanks barack.

  • I love how all these commentators below, and probably above me, have no faith in this "Drug Plan." Change has come; other tactics may have failed but Obama has a different approach.

  • NO he doesn't marijuana needs to be legalized. Barrack is a hypocrite. He will never legalize.

  • will he be smoking the drugs or trading them for arms.....fkn azzhole

  • The war against drugs is kind of like the war against zombies, you're not going to win. It won't stop until we're all high and eating human flesh.

  • CHANGE! Change you shouldn't have believed in. Face it Washington, your so-called War on Drugs has failed miserably for almost a half a century! Time to CHANGE the policy:

    DE-CRIMINALIZE DRUGS !

  • We are fucked

  • ironicaly, Obama asked the VP, who is against gun control, to warmly welcome Gil Kerlikowske who is for strict gun control.

  • another drug czar for the drug war.

  • drugs are crossing the us border everyday from mexico. so what's the purpose of having a "drug czar" when your own "czar" of homeland security looks the other way as far as the borders go and dares insult our intelligence by telling us they're going to wait for the violence to spill over on our side before they take action?

    what a joke!

  • I think the Czar forgot sociologists and social scientists. It is not a complex problem. That points to total ignorance and lack of coordination in his thinking. Science can determine the factors and how to change them.

  • yo bra, i'm like totally not sure what you mean by, "science can determine ... how to change them [the facts]."

i mean check-it, r u saying abuse, addiction, longing and lost "can" all be changed [fixed?] by science?

and yo, let's focus on the phrase

"science can" --- as in --- science can

    cure cancer,

    cure cardio-vascular disease,

    cure aging, etc.

bra, it is totally not about if science "can do" a thing...

it is about if, when, how science "will do" a thing & that is a complex problem yo.

  • He was saying that science can determine, and largely has, the contributing factors to addiction and abuse. The problem is that the government doesn't want to listen to it, because they prefer superficial quick fixes that address the symptoms of the problem instead of the causes. Addressing the cultural and systemic problems is a lot more difficult than toughening the laws to create a stronger deterrent, which only has very limited benefits and a host of unintended consequences.

  • Indeed, you have said it. The cultural and systemic mechanism are those that science aims to master. The Czar did mention many scientific fields in his method of solving drug problems, but they were kind of popular and non-academic people think only of them, because they go well with the nature of market economy, political struggle and other mundane ways. And they do not apply to cultural and systemic issues concerning the need to sell or buy drugs. The Czar sounds like a bureaucrat

  • though i totally & completely feel yah with respects to the multi-faceted nature of the "drug problem"

my question was about ur 1st assertion that science can solve it... right now.

bra, i would even argue that, aside from dsm v references, science offers no consensus that defines the ambit of the "drug problem."

check-it, like porn, such a def'n are only derived by society & therefore is inescapably "political," leading to my question yo, "how can science solve what science can't define?"

  • we all pray that he will be in favor of new drug laws to release us all ... but it doesnt sound good with a seattle hater for first try ... we wish it were ron paul ... xoxnanette
