  • when I was a kid visiting my grandma in moncton,in the 60's, the bore came in as a solid wall i dunno how many feet high. it was an awesome sight. it is so much smaller now.

  • Someone who has a camcorder should come back to see the new Tidal Bore. They have opened the small gate at the end of the dam. The water has left the Petticodiac Lake on the other side of the gate, and the banks of the river are widening, the water is less brown, the wave has increased in size, and the river fills up a lot faster after the wave than it did!

  • Hmmm , i never heard of " Tidal Bore " before ........i must read up on it

  • Now that the causeway's finally open, hopefully the tidal bore will no longer be the "total bore" :)

  • I had a friend from Moncton who said they called it the "total bore" Apparently it was a lot bigger before the river was dammed and channeled so much. It is in the bay of fundy with its 50 ft tides, those are friggin amzing.

  • The river is so polluted that it is not safe to stand beside. It has PCB leachage from old transformers that are buried next to it and raw sewage that is dumping directly into it, the only thing holding it back is the causeway gates, take them out and 21kms of lake gets polluted too, doesn't sound to smart to me , got to love our Liberal gov for causing an environmental disaster and proud of doing so. Shawn Graham , you are a dick.

  • @1481scotty I don't see how Graham has anything to do with this, since the causeway was built in 1969 and the Moncton dump near the river was closed in the '90s. Opening the causeway will unfortunately pollute the river even more, but at least the fish and rive will come back. We can worry about the pollution later.

The tidal bore used to be one of the highest in the world, sometimes over two meters. I'd like to see it hit its peak again in my lifetime.

  • @1481scotty the screw up was when they made that man made lake in the first place

  • wow, its so beautiful lol

  • I'm looking forward to it, the causeway was definitely not smart but the dump next to it...I can't believe it.

  • Nice video shame the tide wasnt that big for your footage.

  • hmm i found a magazine someone gave me a few years ago showing moncton in the late 1800's,and that place were you were standing, well, not in that exact location, but around there anyways, there was a dock/wharf,when the sail ships used to go through this river.and i must say,it does look alot different since that picture was taken.that causeway is useless, and the river is poluted.outhouse point being beside it doesnt help things, and the lake isnt any better.

  • i live here and this river is filthy, there is a landfill site no more than 10 kms from here and it oozes toxins into the river, i wonder if it has anything to do with the depleted lobster stocks in the bay of fundy, nothing lives in this river, tourists should not waste thier time!!!

  • the river is not dirty or poluited its the red clay that it gets its color from. full of healthy fish. years ago was better but still better than nothing.

  • the river is dead....quit spending money on it.

  • I heard that the tidal bore can be 3-4 feet (1+ metres) in places, but as per the video, is no more than a few inches by the time it reaches Moncton nowadays.

  • uhh......no....its because of that f-ing causway they put in

  • That's tragic. The bank looks like a wasteland, It should be covered in trees.

I live in England. The Severn bore is up to 2.8 metres, but that could be under threat too. There are plans to utilise the ave. 12.4 m tidal range to generate electricity, meaning he end of the bore. I suppose sacrifices must be made to reduce CO2 output

  • This river needs some serious HELP. Petitcodiac river is one of the most endangered rivers in the whole wide world! The damage is man made, but local people do not really care about it. The river needs everybody's help to survive.

  • Yah I live in Riverview and just heard about it recently...used to be huge...damn the causeway and the dame....its neat to see it even on video!

  • Damn causeway, Ive heard that it used to be huge. Ive lived in Moncton my whole life and never seen the tidal bore, never been there at the right time. Thanks for showing me.

  • That river is gross...so muddy...that tidal bore was amazing once! It was like a meter tall! Now its like friggin 2 centimeters cause of the damn causeway...

  • I'm suprised there isn't a gigantic mud hands that comes out of the river to snatch the cameraman, that river is really disgusting in Moncton...

  • YES!!! the Total Bore!! That thing was once cool, awesome stuff :)
