  • Not scary AT ALL !!!

  • my grandmother is scarier then this

  • I guess this would be scarier when you're not expecting it. I've seen this scene so many times since I was a child that it no longer has any effect on me.

  • @Colddeed I saw this for the first time last week and it terrified me to death, but now i can watch it and laugh hysterically!!

  • Lmfao xD

This made me laugh so hard .

  • This scene scared me because it made me think of sleep paralysis and the "night hag".

  • @randir14

Yeah I had the same thoughts watching this scene. In fact, SP would be even worse this because you can't cover your eyes, or even close them or anything. Since your completely paralyzed.

  • No asusta.

  • We watched this in English today after reading the book for the past month or so.....Every single child in the room was screaming for the next ten minutes....Two even started crying!

  • Saw this when I was 10, Christmas 1994! My dad knew what was going to happen and didn't tell me! I shit myself!

  • This scene is probably only scary to those who can spell, or feed themselves or do anything that requires intelligence. Creepy.

  • i shit my pants

well i shit them a couple hours ago

i wasnt wearing them at the time

  • Lol

  • Is this suppoused to be scary? I have seen scarier shit than this

  • How cool would it be to see this scene in 3D?.

  • This scene terrified me as a kid. But looking at it now, it seems pretty tame.

  • I got scared of this when I first watch this in English a few years ago :D lol it was so funny that everyone in the class screamed at once :D

  • Guess who isn't going to bed tonight !!!

  • Ah...you know...I expected something scarier...I mean, the whole scene prepared my senses really well...I was ready to be scared shitless, and then...oh well...

    Try Again.

  • what does she want from him?

  • @wadyano Dont actually know...Thats why its so scary :D it's like Michael Myers in the original Halloween...No motives just killing for no reason...

  • JEEBUS CRIST !

  • The movie and play are scary, but this scene is not, its actually kind of funny just looks like a normal lady squeeling at a guy

  • looks like my mother in the morning

  • @QueenBonesofdarkness LMAO! :D

  • AND I JIZZ IN MY PANTS

  • I shat myself.

  • LMFAO!!!

  • The original fortune theater play is the best and the most scary :D

  • I SHIT MYSELF! :O

  • That's Miss Lemon from the Poirot telly series. I know it is. And yet this scene is still terrifying. I can't get it out of my head. I haven't even seen The Woman in Black, just watching this in isolation, and I'm already terrified. Christ.

  • Quick somebody call the fucking Ghostbusters!!

  • Thank God I muted and forwarded it. I would have pissed my pants

  • The first time I saw this, I peed a lil. : (

  • ONE small criticism of this scene is that it holds on the woman's face for a bit too long as it seems as if she isn't going to do anything more than be there ; should have cut from her ten seconds earlier & before she got AS close, then lastly on him, then more screaming with just a black screen for you to imagine what was happening to him

  • We watched this in English as well... It frightened the crap out of everyone, one person so much they flipped the desk over making everyone scream more. XD

When we went to see the play in London, our coach broke down and we were just stuck on it because nobody was allowed to leave. The teachers bought us chips, crisps & KitKats with their own money, and somebody had to pee in a bucket... We didn't get back until after midnight even though we were due back at 7pm, lmao.

  • @Wizbash That's a really great story.

  • it was scary

  • fuck off

  • he should have been like "bitch get away from me"

  • I saw this movie last week and really...this scene scared the s*h*i*t out of me! And normally i dislike horror movies because they are silly (like paranormal activity & stuff) and i'm never scared of them!

buhuu but it's a good film and you really get into the scary mood! the music, the feelings and pictures will catch you.

(NOTE! i saw this movie in a dark basement totally alone. and got scared. just think about it if you are the sensitive type! keep that in mind! :)

  • looks like jacki weaver from animal kingdom.

  • lol, watched this in english-bloody hilarious

  • Not my favorite scene from the movie, but the whole thing was so scary!

  • We watched that in class and while everyone was sitting there freaking out I was laughing, this is so funny :L

  • I wacthed that in class we scearmed girls and boys the other class heard us it was scary my friend put her head in my lap I got her hair and covered my eyes with it

  • the london theatre performance scared the bejeebies outta me! i was sat there nearly crying at one point - stupid GCSE drama :L it was really good tho, definetly worth seeing, even if it did make me nearly poop myself XD xx

  • That actually is kinda of scary.

  • omg! i watched this today in english class and nearly peed my pants! my entire class screamed!

  • Seen the play, alot better and scarier than this

  • She looks a lot better than some of the people I've worked with in the past! XD XD

  • I watched this live at a london theatre, for GCSE drama last year. We had to write an essay on it. :(

  • She can go fuck herself, if that was me I'd be like AARHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHG back in her face :)

  • Think its the eyes... Anyone looked at me like that and I'd bust their ass!

  • Going to see the production on Thursday for my GCSE I am pooing myself! We watched the experience on the website and I was just laughing at the reactions of my friends rather than watching. I am going to read the book too :0

  • i was a kid when i saw this film and it scared the elastic right out of my underpants

  • i was actually more scared by how shocking she looking, dear god, she could at least sort out her hair :P

  • Not exactly. The book has him in a prolonged fever, being haunted by visions of the ghost, but nothing this horrifying. This scene is way scarier than any contact he has with the ghost in the book. Ghost looks a lot younger than the one in the graveyard, must be implied that this was her when she was younger.

  • New film being remade this year! Excellent book.

  • srsly.

    lolololol...

just fast forward to 1:14 like 3 times.

lolol. ps. READ THE FREAKIN BOOK.

  • srsly.

    lolololol...

just fast forward to 1:14 like 3 times.

    lolol.

  • seriously?

i laughed so hard i almost peed.

the overly done make-up and screeching is hysterical. you people need to see 'antichrist' or 'a tale of two sisters' or something. this is amateur and HILARIOUS.

  • Saw the play in London. 10x better, I shat myself, it was so scary!!!!

  • it wasnt scary at all, in fact it was rather queer

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!! what a perfect movie to watch before my board exam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would definitely remember all the things that I've studied!!!!

  • Looks just like my ex when she saw i hadn't put the toilet seat down ..again.

  • jesus christ people are saying that its only scary when you watch the whole film. I thought that was fucking scary as it is

  • i know the story is good and the way it is written and stuff, but this video is BLOODY HILARIOUS! i mean, the books great but that woman! :D

  • I have to say that I much prefer the play. I've seen it twice, and it is just the most unnerving thing...

  • There is a short story that's just come out that is so scary, people are going crazy! Very few people can even finish it, even though it's only two pages long.

    Follow me.

  • la mejor pelicula de terror de tooodos los tiempos es mi favorita! :D

  • I saw this at the Fortune Theatre last night (15/11/10) and MY GOD I HYPERVENTILATED FOR A STRAIGHT HALF HOUR AFTERWARDS! Although it seems they left out the scene where the child talks to the man, which might be a benefit as this looks a bit silly. This might just be because of the time it was made, though.

  • @hollium me too the screaming scared me the most!!!

  • @austgyu why? cause you shit your pants?

  • I watched this in my English lit class at A-level (we did study the book as well, we didn't just watch the film).

It scared the shit out of me.

  • this movie used to scare the crap out of me! its still gives me the chills!

  • I would scream and whimper too when some ugly thing tries to sound sexy

  • THIS IS SO FUNNY HAHAHAAHA

  • its not that scary when everyone watched it at my school they said they shit themselves

  • OMG OMG OMG HEEEEEEEEEEEEELP scary....scary

    *whimpers*

    get me out of here!!!!!1

  • I thought it was okay scary but then there was a stormy night last night and this scene came back into my head. Very scary.

  • you have to see the whole movie! you can't take the scene out of context and expect it to be scary. its all down to environment too - i have to say on a stormy evening in an old house in the sticks this was the only time as an adult I have been completely terrified by a film. it was great!

  • that doesn't happen in the book.....

    ITS ALL WRONG.

  • @lottie241292 It's not 'wrong' because it's not in the book. There's loads changed for Lord of the Rings to make it more effective as a film (instead of a book) but neither Tolkien or Peter Jackson's versions are 'wrong'. This is Nigel Kneale's ADAPTATION of the book, beefed up for TV and it's very effective. It doesn't replace the book, if you prefer that, it still exists for you to enjoy. I've never understood Susan Hill's reluctance toward this version, it must have sold lots of her books.

  • @lottie241292 Actually, it does happen in the book, but it is not described in detail. From my recollection, Arthur states that he once saw the woman in black hovering over his bed. It's dragged out in the movie. However, I do agree that it's wrong about the lead soldier.

  • @lottie241292 There is no specific description of this scene happening in the novel, but there is a suggestion of it when Arthur recalls how she visited him during the night and how his visions could have been attributed to the delirium caused by the sickness. I think that this scene was an effective addition to the movie.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArgh

  • this is a truly awesome play...go and see it in The West End

  • hahahaha thats so funnyyyy

  • lol she looks like shes about to crease up laughing haha

  • new one will be better than this i think

  • The new one will be better than this i think

  • I'm a big baby and usually cannot handle horrors, I've no idea why I decided to watch this. However, reading the comments and the one who said it sounds like she was constipated...made me laugh like crazy, it completely did.

  • How can ANYONE say this isnt scary??????????? :-0 anyone who says that ,i hope this happens to YOU tonight!

  • AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I stubbed my toe on the desk.

  • Oh wow! I saw this when I was a child and it scared the Shit out of me and my younger brother. We had to awitch it off at the bed bit. Spent a long time trying to remember what the film was called. Weird to see it again as an adult, not quite as terrifying but close!!

  • i found the spectre face in the signalman scarier. but even that is sort of an anticlimax. the build up to that point is amazing though

  • meh... this was the least scary scene imo. The ending was terrifying, but this kinda made me laugh... idk it was too over the top

  • omg image being stoned watching this. u would die of laughter or a heart attack

  • I went to see the live show i shattt myself.

  • we studied the book in English and then we watched the film. My reaction (scream and turning really white) to the scary bit freaked out my teacher and more girls than the film did. Beat that Woman In Black!!!!

  • @4evaJaredLeto SAME!!!!

  • Seeing this scene in context, on A&E, in the early/mid 90's, in the middle of the day (not even at night), without any expectations, I shat bricks. Never forget it. Creeped out the rest of the day. Great BBC production. Ranks highly among the best ghost movies ever.

  • @klaev So true. And I watched it late in the night, alone. The woman in black's last apparition in the movie, standing on water, will forever be in my mind. This particular scene here was uncalled for. I think it would have sufficed if she just had stood there motionless at the foot of his bed. But this meant to be the movie's climactic scene (or make you believe so).

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA .... !!!! so not scary more like funny:)

  • I reckon there should be a remake of this film starring Matt Smith (The new Dr Who) as Mr Kidd as I think he would fit the role perfectly. Facial and voice wise he has got a little bit of a resemblece to the male actor here.

  • does anyone know where I can get the t.v production on dvd?

  • @wartsdlogydna You can't, it isn't available anymore at least legally.

  • @kihew Thanks, I'll have to wait for the hammer horror film then :)

  • Read the book or attend the very effective stage play, for the full effect of this old school horror...for some real Paranormal phenomena...

  • This scared the living daylights out of me when I saw it on TV many moons ago.

  • we're doing this as a play at my school!

  • Yikes!!!

  • The actress who plays The Woman In Black in this film is the same woman who plays Miss Lemon in Agatha Christie's Poirot (his Secretary/PA). I've noticed in Poirot, she's quite attractive looking. But in this film and this particular scene, she looks different and frightening looking.

  • the play is way scarier because nothing hardly happens its just your imagination this but is crap :<

  • Scary my TiTs lol

  • Everyone needs to watch this film from the very beginning to the very end and listen to story to know how scary this film and this particular scene is.

  • To all the people commenting this isn't scary, you're all probably watching it out of context, out of mood, in a bright house during the day. This is just one disjointed clip, watched seperate from the whole film.

Watch The Woman In Black from start to finish, alone at night, and you'll find it scary.

Watched as a whole, the creepy sound and music, lighting, and great performances slowly convey a feeling of creeping dread and the film will get right under your skin.
