2. Self-defense most likely. They can't eat us, but if they feel endagered, they will bite. Most animals and bugs flee from us, but if they are in a bad day, the results can be diferent. Not to mention that if something touched that spider's web, it would most likely think its a prey. As for what they want... I guess they just want to be left alone, lol.

@grungedistortion999 black widows are native to north america...OZ has redbacks which are similar....the cold winters you speak of here in north america are not the zones that are year round living quarters for BW's they primarily live in the southern USA however they have been known to make thier way up to canada here and as our winters get more and more mild here in north america the BW's are moving north
