I am still trying to get my first metal detector, I have land that was once indian burial ground and near the underground railroad and I have been here over 30 yrs. Without a metal detector I have found old bottles, 2 morgan's and lots of indian head pennies. Just by doing regular yard work, digging up old bushes and planting new ones. I do not have a lot to spend and wonder if you can please tell me the cheapest way to go to find things. TY
@IamNobodysHW ....Ace 250 all the way up to Minelab Xterra303...YOu Chose....Good Luck, Dave....If you need help hunting your ground...Maybe me & Greag can make a field trip !
thats cool all the old homes in my town has all been redone by the city. i have more chace tectinto find more stuff at the beach then the homes. Im now trying find good underwater metal detector
Cool! Money from the ground. Maybe somebody in the 1920s tried to bury some coins out there for later? Hard to imagine spilling several ounces of silver out of your pocket and not noticing.
@uberw00t123 ..I talked about this way early in the comments...Eight sites were chose & researched...This is the forth...Total luck...Old looking public area cross referened on Goggle earth...Two more site to go in 2012..
@fishercz20 ...LOL...I did...I got a zx-5...But I hate the fact I have to go to settings to switch to Macro & back...It's got to be better than that battery eating zi6 !
@Ringo853 ...I shot that video with the Kodak Zi6...Man that thing was acting up & eating batteries...I only use that camera for extreeme close ups..It's semi retired after that hunt...L.O.L.
Geez what a score -probably some guy thru a saddle over a horse and his bags spilled over --or someone fell down drunk -why would`nt they picked them up in that era either not knowing or drunk might be a fight to eh -thanks for showing me this nice finds -what do you think a nice 25- S silver dollar is worth I found one .
Awesome hunt! Wow to have a day like that would be unreal! I gotta ask was this a random shot in the woods or did you research it and there was something there a long time ago?
Amazing digs!!! I would be getting rid of the camera though...too expensive! Either that, or I would be rigging an external battery pack with longer lasting bateries.
AAAAMAZING !!! Congratulations you guys, I'm happy for ya ! Heck, my dreams aren't even that good. What an entertaining video. Thanks for taking us along :) Good luck to ya on your future hunts !!!
What fun is there to go and dig up coins only 100-150 years old? It's something fun to dig here in Denmark where you can dig anything between 10-2000 years old coins up.
that is absolutely amazing. My best silver is a 1945D war nickel and you're out there finding barbers and walking liberties?!?!?!?! Are you in the midwest?
hey dave can you answer a question for me, can you check the back of that 1917 standing liberty quarter and see if its a type one because if it is it could be worth a lot for a readable date! to be exact if its a type 1 it would go for 60 bucks and if its a type 2 it would go for 55 in VG-8 which is what that seems to be. Great Finds though...ironically no dimes haha
dave that was one heck of a hunt, what was there to have that many coins there. i found one standing liberty at an old ball field, it really got me going i could not imagine finding that much silver.keep the videos coming excellent job happy hunting

@justanotherpulltab ...............Thanks for watching Roger...........Greg can sure sniff out the silver spills...(As you will see in future videos !)
Awesome hunt, Dave. Congratulations to Greg for finding those silver coin spills, and to you for yours. I'd say the date of the coin in question is 1918 too. As for finds being in the woods, well, from what I know, woods are favoured a lot by couples, which accounts for many spills. You may think that nobody goes there, but what the eye doesn't see... Most enjoyable video, I still feel all the excitement. Good hunting both of you :D
Man this is absolutely amazing. How did you guys decide to go there?? There is an area in my town where a town once flourished with home, stables, hotels stores, etc during the 1820s-1860s that is now woods. Ive thought about exploring the area when it cools down outside.

Here's a question from someone who doesn't know anything about metal detecting: Why are the coins so deep. I'm assuming they weren't buried intentionally, but dropped. How do they get 6 inches into the soil?
@beerandgolf68 .I think it has a little to do with foot traffic..In an old park..I find modern coins down to six inches at times & the older coins at 7-10 inches...Lots of foot traffic..But I have found 100 year old silver at just 2-3 inches...In the woods tho..Where not a soul has visited for 75-100 years...I may find an Indian head cent,or old silver coin at 2 inches,or even just under one inch of leaves..Like it was just dropped..Maybe someone else can chime in with a more scientific reason.
@etrac007 ..........Ohh yeah Mike.........When Tracy came to town........He found 8 silver the first day.......One was a seated.....A BIG ONE.......Sigh..(I passed right by it)...LOL...Ohh well...A great video comming up next week !

Actually coins do not sink much, the soil gets built up from decomposing leaves and other organic matter over the years.
Do you know what was at the site back in the 1920's? It must have been a park or some other type of area with a lot of foot traffic.
