  • perro!!!!!! esto lo vi hace aproximadamente 42 años en un tv. blanco y negro marca westinhause

  • Que berraquera me hace acordar cuando yo era virgen.

  • hihi I am here to have fun

  • ...airings of the weak fare of the '90s. Bu the good news is that there is a new choice on cable: Retro TV (RTV) aka YooToo as it has a social media part but mostly

  • Jeb: Yes, TVLand stinks now 90 % of the time, with non-stop

  • lol I'm a crazy American girl

  • Classic intro

  • Roger Moore was Gay Bond

  • @branscom81203 fuck you. There is no gay Bond, except Lazenby

  • Back in the day when Typography was still an art.

  • Connery was the best Bond.

  • ey i am ur girl

  • I remember trying as a kid to draw that match stick man by heart.... Never came out as I wanted it!!!! -)

  • Roger M0:00re 8-)

  • There is, was and always will be only one guy who could play Simon Templar...and thats Roger Moore. Maybe not the greatest actor of all time, but EASILY the most stylish...and since acting is just that, acting.....style wins over substance anyday. Thats what makes the character so timeless.

  • After 50 years this is still cool

  • the music for the vast majority of these 60s shows was great, they still sound as fresh today,,quality doesnt die it just stays around for ever

  • just look at this tv entertainment for the time,,mid 60s,,tell you what we were spoilt, this stuff is light years ahead of the garbage they put out as entertainment today, or should l just get with the times?

  • This was back when the Americans and British were trying to outdo each other for the best theme songs....

  • @finnemccool and one of them won...

  • I still love this show!

  • Oh, the best theme song ever!

  • Damn Moore was smoove.

  • TV Land use to be a great place to watch good old shows. Not anymore. I NEVER watch TV Land any more!!!

  • @jkeyes59 Oh man, I know it. Emergency, The Love Boat, oh so many more. =[

  • Wish there was a channel that still presented these shows.

  • Timothy Dalton played the character the closest to Fleming's vision. Moore was great as the saint, but he was too dainty as Bond.

  • I wouldn't say he was the best James Bond, I prefer him as Templar. That said, no actor has had more respect for Bond or the fans of the franchise, as Roger Moore. He's one of those true-to-life, actual gentlemen. At least in my opinion.

  • Sorry Roger is the saint ! he wasn't Bond

  • @klnine Agree totally. I'm old enough to have read the books before the movies came out and Sean Connery was the closest to Ian Flemming's description of Bond. He certainly wasn't 6ft 4 with blonde hair.

  • Roger Moore auditioned for the role of James Bond in 1961-62 vs Sean Connery (and others); my impression is that the director thought he looked too boyish and self-contained for the character. Connery looked and acted edgier and more aggresive. But this is perhaps speculation; I don't know all the details.

  • This sounds TERRIBLE!!!

  • Are you Simon Templar...............no I've just come to read the bloody gas meter, love.

  • Use to watch this on Sunday afternoons a long time ago

  • He was a great Saint. The next little prick who types lol should get a real pasting.

  • @kevin652010 => lol <=

  • @kevin652010 I second that comment! Moore was great in The Siant.

  • Ian Olgilvy?

  • @kevin652010 Loved Ian in I. Claudius. He was considered for Bond at the same time Moore was, correct?

  • Sean Connery would've made a better Templar, too.

  • Nothing like the books by Leslie Charteris but in its day the music was good and the fight scenes were better than than other shows.

  • this intro broke more than a million tweeters :)

  • Crap

  • @CanineFaeces oh shut up your crap

  • What a lame opening!

  • shame itv only show the color episodes

  • mission impossibles better than james bond

  • where can u watch dese episodes online

  • + The Saint +

  • Roger Moore as James Bond.......navy blue safari suit (sorry tropical jacket, I'm British old bean) how cool is that.

  • Simon Templar was the "Coolest of the Cool."

  • I never saw this. I heard of it, though.

  • I´v seen only 1 episode from these series, but I think it was very fun to watch :)

  • il thro this was saint row lol

  • This is the main original theme that I believe was heard on ITV.

  • Trivia Question: Does anybody know what the Saint in reference to Simon Templar means?

    (I know the answer)

  • @vividwatch47 well, aside from the obvious (initials ST), there's a suggestion of an ancient code of honour and chivalry, from an old fashioned knight (the Knights Templar). In many stories I remember, Simon jumped in with both expensively shoen feet to help someone simply because they were being victimised / threatened / were in danger of losing a lot of money. This idea was later copied in The Equalizer.

Don't know if that's your answer or not

  • Isn't it the Knights of Templar?

  • Roger Moore was a good Saint, but not a very good James Bond. The latter character has to have a touch of the appearance of ruthlessness about him, and Roger lacked that. Sean Connery and Daniel Craig do not - and they are excellent portrayers of JB!

  • Roger was an excellent James Bond and even an even better Simon Templar. The two characters are so much alike. Lest we forget , when James Bond was being created Fleming had Roger in mind. Roger opted out to play Simon Templar as he saw the long term benefits in a TV hit in 1961(TV was still sort of new then). If Roger had played Bond in the early 60s he would've been stunning in the role and the best Bonds were made in the 60s when the Cold War was very relevant. Sean was stunning too.

  • @deepseadirt, do you have a source about Fleming thinking of Roger Moore as Bond when he was writing the books?

Fleming started writing JB books in 1953 and hadn't heard of Moore then. Some say Moore was ONE of those considered for Dr No, and Fleming had seen him playing The Saint and liked him for the role.... but Dr No was made and in the cinemas before the first ep of The Saint ever aired so that's not true either.

    Just curious.

  • queen: no queen, that's a goof on my part. I meant when the producers were trying to cast the show, but I think Fleming may have championed Moore to be cast. But dont have me on record. Can't remember where I read this.

  • Hi, Deepseadirt. I have read both sets of books, albeit a long time ago. You miss my point - to wit, James Bond was a hardened killer, and not really a very nice guy! And Roger Moore looks far, far too pleasant - ie, not ruthless enough - for the role. The Saint was a mysterious and elusive figure, but certainly not a hardened killer, and Roger Moore is perfect there. BTW, I remember being somewhat disappointed with the series, that didna' show off that fey quality of The Saint.

  • @WeeWyllie exactly. I got all drooly over Simon as a small child but Connery forever has my Bond vote. When Rog took over, his stiff-necked sardonic charm just wasn't right for Bond.

  • @queenastilon - sorry but i disagree. sean connery was a boring, one-dimensional bond who had no personality. only my opinion of course but to my mind, roger moore did well to bring charm and humour to the role, although he could be serious as well.

  • I was a great fan of this show, but don't much like him as james bond.

In this show he's this super smart detective.

He was not supposed to be a super tough guy, but he was able to knock the bad guys out when needed.

  • Roger Moore should get a percentage for every blazer jacket I've bought. He's been my role model because for style and his humanity. I was too young for Connery so I grew up with Sir Roger as James Bond. I have greatly enjoyed watching him in his miriad roles because of the sense of humor and style he brings to them. May he live a long and happy life.

  • Have you read his autobiography MY WORD IS MY BOND? it's excellent

  • GREAT show got all the dvds better than all this reality tv crap

  • Man, oh, man. Look at Roger Moore! He makes me want some more. . .

In fact, I always thought it was funny that he was The Saint in this show because all he made me want to do is sin.

    Okay, it's a little warm in here . . .

  • An oustandingly cool theme. Moore was quite a handsome devil in his prime; nowadays the figure would be a Pillsbury Doughboy silhouette.

  • I'd be much obliged if someone would tell me who the band was that played the theme music. The sound has long intrigued me, and if there is a repertoire in this genre, I could get into all of it.

  • this is the theme from 62 to 64. then they moved into colour and a slightly intro music

  • I only faintly remember this show, as it stopped being syndicated in NYC sometime in the early '70s when I was 6 or 7.

  • I was more of a fan of Roger Moore as Simon Templar than he was as Bond. I loved the Saint, though I have never seen the Black and White version of the show.

  • HI Faceman, I have all of the B/W and colour episodes they are great,Itoo am a Roger Moore fan,

    Regards Harry

  • doent this kinda sound like lupin the 3rd

  • Roger Moore was actually considered for the role of Bond in Dr No but was unavailable because he was committed to this series. There was a carbon copy situation in the 1980s when the producers of Bond were unable to get Pierce Brosnan for The Living Daylights because he was committed to the Remington Steel TV series. But good things come to those who wait.

  • Roger Moore was the best choice for Simon Templar. I watched this tv series lately and want to buy the complete one. I have already The Avengers with Emma Peel and loved it!

  • holy fuck look at roger moore lol

  • Roger Moore played Simon Templar - in EVERY film role he did!! Patrick MacGoohan was originally sought after as Bond. Conery's style of walk got him the role as he crossed the car park after the audition. Orson Welles was the original actor they wanted as Auric Goldfinger - too expensive, but Gert Frobe was tremendous. THE best Bond/Villain package. What have we now, a blond, blue-eyed, big eared short-ass thug posing as a tall dark, debonair MI6 Agent a la Connery/Brosnan.......

  • They tested Theodore Bikel, too. His screen test is on the "The Making Of.." featurette on the "Goldfinger" D.V.D..

  • Roger Moore is Simon Templar. Nobody has done it better. He was born to play this role just like Connery was born to play Bond and Damon was born to play Bourne.

  • Agree 100% !!

  • Jejejejej, exelente!!!!

  • Thank you posting. I saw this on CBS Late night and it scared me.

  • Roger Moore was hot!!!

  • Roger Moore was the best Bond. He is just so badass!

  • @tomtheft Yes, he was good. He was considered for the role of Bond in Dr No but he was committed to The Saint. A similar situation arose after he left the role of Bond. The producers wanted Pierce Brosnan for The Living Daylights but he was committed to Remington Steele, a TV show of which I have never seen a single

  • @tomtheft I'll second that ...

  • @tomtheft That's the funniest thing I've ever read in my life.

Burt Reynolds circa 1983 would've made a better James Bond.

  • @tomtheft The best bond. National Sunday Law and Jesuits.

  • @tomtheft No Way! Conner's could RAPE Roger Moore as Bond!!!!!

  • One of the "Badass"(sickest) intro tracks of the 60's

  • Absolutely!! You nailed it.

  • ANY GUYS UP?

someone smart please help me TP

  • The only reason Sean Connery got the original Bond gig was because Roger Moore was under contract to Lew Grade to do 'The Saint' Moore was offered the role first, but couldn't take it.

  • A well known urban story but according to Moore's biography he was not originally offered the part.

  • Word is, Patrick McGoohan was offered the role of the Saint over any of them.

PS but he turned it down due to his religious views on casual violence, carrying a gun.

  • Cary Grant was supposed to be James Bond in Dr No, but he turned down the offer.

  • bs i was offered it first

  • You are so funny, not:-(

  • "Simon Templar, he's so hunky, all his birds are very funky, Simon's got an 'airy chest, and goes to bed without his vest on...Simon Templar, Simon Templar, Simon Templar, Simon". Splodge

  • *deep happy sigh*

    Roger Moore...flat out GOR-GEOUS...thanks:D!

  • El Santo.....ay my hero

  • Great....!!! 60's tv fan here..!

  • Let's hear it for Edwin Astley, composer of this theme and music for countless other British series, including the legendary "Danger Man"/"Secret Agent."

  • Edwin Astley was The Who's Pete Townshend's father in law, and often did orchestral arrangements for his solo albums. He also composed the brassy opening for the opening title for "The Adventures Of Robin Hood" (majestic!).

  • This music from "new" and "old" The Saint is alike, but It was strange for me to hear It in old variant of sound))

  • El Santo es una serie maravillosa, la veia siempre en mi niñez y hasta en un capitulo vino al peru, realmente emocionante, bravo por Roger Moore

  • The best show ever

  • Naturally the black & white version gave the original impression of true Saintliness.

  • who is the lady in the pic that goes... ohh Simon Templar

  • thought this was a great show, those wee the days eh

  • This black & white opening was used from 1962 through 1965. When the series began color production in 1966 (it reached the U.S. in the spring of '67), the theme [and opening title] was revised and lengthened somewhat...

  • The only True Saint..........Roger Moore! (Sir, that is)

  • And check out the James Bond films--he never stopped playing Simon Templar, even in those.

  • Yeah, Roger Moore was brilliant. I love him as Templar and Bond.

  • A top intro from the 1960s.

  • What a fantastic intro. Even better than the colour intros of the 70's

    Thanks for posting. Superbe !!!!!

  • This was back when literacy and reading was still appreciated. Notice that the name of the author (Leslie Charteris) gets billing even above Roger Moore's! Those were the days...

  • Takes me back. The programme was televised in Uganda way back in the late 60s. What memories.

  • One of the best looking leading men ever..especially in the Saint days.

  • Not "one of" he WAS the best esp as The Saint =]

  • Great intro

  • El Santo/The Saint rules! Long live every ROGER in the world!
