Lisa's death in the original is far more emotional, especially with the music, but I must admit the ending to Shattered Memories had me in tears, I'd say that it was on par emotionally. Despite the fact that this was pretty bad, SH: Shattered Memories was a GREAT "WHAT IF/ALTERNATE UNIVERSE" game. It really was a Psychological thriller. Running through the house where every room is the fucking same for hours wondering if you're going the right way or if you're fucked. It was pretty intense. But that's what people need to realize. It's An Alternate Take from the original Universe. Now "Downpour" looks like the absolute shits. They changed soooo much I'm not even gonna play it.

So this isn't your type of game but to call it garbage is unfair. This has beautiful ambiance and story and is more interactive than all other SH games. My personal favorite is SH2 but I acknowledge the fact that it has flawed controls. Tripping every time you bump into a wall and getting sprayed on by Lying Figures in a tight corridor is a bitch.
Guys like you who play purely for the scare factor and not for the story can always play L4D or Dead Island...

She's actually manifested from Alessa's memory of Lisa. Lisa was a nurse that was forced to take care of Alessa (who didn't know Lisa was being forced to, so she thought Lisa actually cared for her) since she was a drug addict and Kauffman threaten to cut off her supply if she didn't. If you get either of the good endings (possible spoiler) Lisa manifests from the ground and basically drags Kauffman down to hell.

The original death of Lisa Garland in the First Silent hill Game is what really gave her the identity of the 'Red nurse' and the un-bounding fate of her curiosity which lead to her death.
the more recent one ruins the story we love of Lisa and just makes her a couch potato who dies randomly with no plot at all...
@wWalmartnPooh I'm assuming that you've played the first one. Shattered memories is about Harry losing his daughter, just like in the previous game, but pretty much everything from there is different; the story doesn't involve The Order, and the ending carries one hell of a twist in the story. Once you play it, you understand what the word "re-imagining" means. Overall, it was a good game, but if you didn't play it, you haven't missed anything from the Silent Hill history.
Shattered memories is not meant to be a sequel or remake. It's pretty much just a story with no weight in for the title. It was so different because it was aimed mainly for the wii. Overall, it was very nice. I like how they really tried and did something different. But I didn't like how it had absolutely no fighting and puzzles weren't all that great.
I like to think of Shattered Memories as Cheryl's interpretation of what she's heard about what happened to Harry in Silent Hill. That's why the larger ideas are all there, like the places Harry went to and the people he met, but the details are off. That could just be my own justification for making the game more canon in my mind.

@exe2517 Homecoming was terrible too. It's like "SAW: THE GAME" with 50 hours of running and fighting impossible enemies that only knock you down. And Shattered memories completely makes a new game. If it was titled "Shattered Memories" and took silent hill out, then it would bear no resemblence to the original.

But I appreciate that somebody did something different, without trying to pretend it should have always been that way (referrence to Homecoming). Exploration part of the game was nice (except for "find the key" parts, as the key was always in the same room) and the story was good enough for a Silent Hill title. But I sure miss the back-tracing from Origins, where basically the whole map was a puzzle.

(1-4) When Americans tried to continue the series (which was supposed to be over) they created nonsense and put it into the game. For example, In origins, how can a young Alessa be running around town with Travis if the ritual hasn't taken place and Alessa's soul/body separated?

The body is Cheryl, and the Soul can be seen around the game (End of the school boss) But in Origins, the first person to stop you in the middle of the road is a THIRD ALESSA. One half remained in Silent Hill, tied to the burned body of Alessa, the other half was taken away by Harry as a baby (Cheryl), to whom Alessa gave birth after the ritual. BEFORE the ritual, there's only ONE Alessa and as I already implied, while you can see her, she doesn't have to be physically there. I guess it's a part of having supernatural powers. Or do you think they were so stupid and though we wouldn't notice?

@LaughinGarry One little note here: We can assume either that:
1. Travis' mother was crazy.
2. Travis HIMSELF had some abilities similar to Alessa's.
The later would explain why is Travis able to freely travel from reality into the nightmare. Why his own father almost though that killing Travis would be right. Why has Alessa chosen him as her "conduit" instead of ANYONE who lives in SH . Why it appears that Kaufman knows Travis. It would also support Travis as the Butcher theory.

Eeeeeeh, you guys do realize, that apart from the characters' names and the premise, the stories of those two games do not have much in common, right? So it's only natural, that the scenes differ that much. It just doesn't make sense comparing.
I still want to play both version and to compare one with the other is pointless. Each game focuses on different things and the nature of a person. In the first you play someone who want to save and protect his daughter while Alyssa tries to stop the evil before it spirals out of control and in the other you're playing the same basic person with probably more empisis on the psychology of the envoronment. I won't judge til I play them both.

Oh man... I loved Shattered Memories, but there's just no comparison in terms of tension and atmosphere. Original, definitely.

She's actually manifested from Alessa's memory of Lisa. Lisa was a nurse that was forced to take care of Alessa (who didn't know Lisa was being forced to, so she thought Lisa actually cared for her) since she was a drug addict and Kauffman threaten to cut off her supply if she didn't. If you get either of the good endings (possible spoiler) Lisa manifests from the ground and basically drags Kauffman down to hell.

The original death of Lisa Garland in the First Silent hill Game is what really gave her the identity of the 'Red nurse' and the un-bounding fate of her curiosity which lead to her death.
the more recent one ruins the story we love of Lisa and just makes her a couch potato who dies randomly with no plot at all...

Shattered memories is about Harry losing his daughter, just like in the previous game, but pretty much everything from there is different; the story doesn't involve The Order, and the ending carries one hell of a twist in the story. Once you play it, you understand what the word "re-imagining" means. Overall, it was a good game, but if you didn't play it, you haven't missed anything from the Silent Hill history.

Shattered memories is not meant to be a sequel or remake. It's pretty much just a story with no weight in for the title. It was so different because it was aimed mainly for the wii. Overall, it was very nice. I like how they really tried and did something different. But I didn't like how it had absolutely no fighting and puzzles weren't all that great.

I like to think of Shattered Memories as Cheryl's interpretation of what she's heard about what happened to Harry in Silent Hill. That's why the larger ideas are all there, like the places Harry went to and the people he met, but the details are off. That could just be my own justification for making the game more canon in my mind.

@exe2517 Homecoming was terrible too. It's like "SAW: THE GAME" with 50 hours of running and fighting impossible enemies that only knock you down. And Shattered memories completely makes a new game. If it was titled "Shattered Memories" and took silent hill out, then it would bear no resemblence to the original.

But I appreciate that somebody did something different, without trying to pretend it should have always been that way (referrence to Homecoming). Exploration part of the game was nice (except for "find the key" parts, as the key was always in the same room) and the story was good enough for a Silent Hill title. But I sure miss the back-tracing from Origins, where basically the whole map was a puzzle.

(1-4) When Americans tried to continue the series (which was supposed to be over) they created nonsense and put it into the game. For example, In origins, how can a young Alessa be running around town with Travis if the ritual hasn't taken place and Alessa's soul/body separated?

The body is Cheryl, and the Soul can be seen around the game (End of the school boss) But in Origins, the first person to stop you in the middle of the road is a THIRD ALESSA. Where did she come from?

One half remained in Silent Hill, tied to the burned body of Alessa, the other half was taken away by Harry as a baby (Cheryl), to whom Alessa gave birth after the ritual. BEFORE the ritual, there's only ONE Alessa and as I already implied, while you can see her, she doesn't have to be physically there. I guess it's a part of having supernatural powers. Or do you think they were so stupid and though we wouldn't notice?

1. Travis' mother was crazy.
2. Travis HIMSELF had some abilities similar to Alessa's.
The later would explain why is Travis able to freely travel from reality into the nightmare. Why his own father almost though that killing Travis would be right. Why has Alessa chosen him as her "conduit" instead of ANYONE who lives in SH . Why it appears that Kaufman knows Travis. It would also support Travis as the Butcher theory.

Lisa's death in Shattered Memories (i finished that game) is more "real". In real life, you don't become to blood when you die, so I think that if you like realistic games, please play Shattered Memories, and if you like "Silent Hill style" play Silent Hill 1.

I still want to play both version and to compare one with the other is pointless. Each game focuses on different things and the nature of a person. In the first you play someone who want to save and protect his daughter while Alyssa tries to stop the evil before it spirals out of control and in the other you're playing the same basic person with probably more empisis on the psychology of the envoronment. I won't judge til I play them both.
