one of the best sports commercials. best part when they probably asked the worst thing that ever happened to you. "i don't know. the death of my coach"
tv show breakfast role model music to dance to female age preference tv/movie type coyote or roadrunner political view (?) boxers or briefs what makes you want to succeed ? candy type type of ice sinner or saint part of chicken ? best part of your game beverage band / musician best shot strategy ? there, i tried lol
"The death of my coach"? The hell is he saying? Hadn't his coach already died by 2000?
Unless the question was "your saddest moment" or something to that effect (which the commercial doesn't give the slightest hint to be it), he's a frikking asshole.
@PulseHit This advert wasn't filmed until 2000, and Pete's coach Tim Gullikson past away in 1996 so I think you need to get your facts straight before calling anyone a "frikking asshole"!
I've met Pete Sampras and I can honestly say he's a very charismatic guy...just because he let his racket do the talking when he was on court doesn't mean he hasn't got a great personality or charisma!
I much prefer an honest and sincere person like Pete Sampras is to the brass, showman and liar that Agassi has turned out to be...those drug taking admissions are disgraceful especially as the ATP covered it up without punishing him!
Agassi went through a lot, and instead of keeping the lies to himself like many of the players said to do, he confessed to the world, because it had been on his conscience for too long. In one of his interviews, not telling the truth was simply 'not an option'. Furthermore, during that season he took crystal meth, he was 141 in the world, and didn't win anything. So maybe that was just gods way of punishing him.
@dattalovesmari If you had had actual one-on-one contact with him like I have had then you would understand why I described him as "charismatic" he is one of the most down to earth, humble and generous people I have ever met and there wasn't any media around to gain publicity! So before you criticise me for my comments get your facts straight! Great player & a great guy too!
@lelobest Well if you saw the match you would have known that Agassi had his own mullet and that if you read the book that Agassi wrote, that he didn't start wearing the wig until 1993 and had it until 1995. So no he was not wearing the wig in 1992 when he was only 22.
Ok, not to sound like an ass(because I love and respect both of these guys), but what in the hell was this commercial for??? Nothing! You put a Nike swoosh logo at the end, and there you have a commercial. WHAT?!
I'll go get Kobe Bryant right now to sit on a park bench feeding pigeons for 30 seconds and I'll paste a Nike swoosh at the end and I've got myself a commercial, too!
'the hell?
Sorry, but this commercial came off as super pretentious.
I think Nike suceeded in their purpose with their commerical. It not only got you thinking, but you are sparking discussion on a 9-year old TV spot. One could interpret this commercial as further illustrating the differences between Pete and Andre in terms of personality and character - - not just in their game style.
@cj397 i don't think anyone is arguing that they're not legends. they are. but i hate commercials like this. it's even mostly in black & white which again, i find totally pretentious. a commercial that gives me chills is the one where they play each other in the middle of the street with the crowd watching. that commercial shows us WHY they're legends; they let their actions speak louder than words.
@baronvg I think the purpose of the commercial was to demonstrate that even though they are two very different people, they still use Nike and are satisfied
@baronvg I think it's pretty clear. There are a lot of differences between them but both pick Nike. Its simple. May be you think about it too much. Cheers.
yeah.. i read properly... i didnt think i was being agressive... for me there's no debate but i didn't butcher your comment... btw it was a friendly comment.. hence the "haha" ...calm down prick
One of the really great things about this (and there are many) is that the question answered "my backside" by Andre and "my movement" by Pete was probably something along the lines of "What do you think is your most underrated asset?" LMAO. "My backside." Gotta love Andre.
The reason they did this is to try to show how different of players they are. Sampras was always known as the clean-cut all-american guy while early on Agassi was thought of as a rebel or a bad boy. The reason I say early on is because he kinda settled down toward the end too.
"jeopardy. seinfeld. eggs. butter and jam. jesus. princess diana. swing. salsa. older. younger. drama. comedy. i like the coyote.. i hope he gets him. the road runner. independent. republican. boxers. briefs. i don't know.. the death of my coach. train. train. sour. sweet. crushed (?). cute. sinner. saint. breast. leg. ahhh.. .. my backside. my movement. coffee. tea. haha.. santana. pearl jam. backhand. forehand. wear down. demolish. don't know.. .."
Pearl Jam would RESPECT the fact that Sampras is a Republican just like I would hope we would respect that I am a liberal voting for Obama....That is what makes Eddie Vedder and the gang...and this country....WONDERFUL. Now, Sampras, if we could only get you to vote for Obama...LOL!
Yes they're the best duo ever (sampras vs agassi). Federer just got lucky nadal and novak emerges as a worthy opponent a little too late. ...so he has no great competition in his early domination...hence he's not really the best. Pete still is the BEST!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong, he makes for one hell of a show and for the love of the game i'd support him when he compares to many other players out there right now. If anything, he's humble in the sense that he's become involved in a few charities and what not but when it comes down to it, in my personal opinion, he just seems to pride himself a little too much for my taste.
I think neither fed nor sampras is the best player. because being best shouldnt be measured by the titles.if so, I like to remind you one thing that agasi hasnt joined australia til 95 or many years long he protested wimbledon.agassi has proved how to win and to be best without hard serves. strenght is temporary when talent always remains. that's why after 28 ,sampras could win only 1 or 2 titles and I think same end is waiting for fed as well.agassi is the best.
The reason there are no big names in tennis today is becuase Fed usally destroys everyone. How can you build a career if you can't win a grand slam. Gasquet, and Novak D. are good players and the next generation, but when they play Fed they hit abrick wall.
Nadal is going to start beating Fed more but who else will compare to Becker, Agassi, Courier, Chang, even Mcenroe when he was still on the Open tour? Gasquet? Canas? Novak D? Davykenko and Nalbandian? With the heavy balls and slow ass court and the Big Banger strings and gut blend the game has been handicapped. It's not the graphite rackets that are different. Federer use to shank alot more when he used to use gut only. That shit sucks compared to what we use today and Sampras still ruled.
there are more great and strong players during sampras and agassi's time unlike today, that's why federer is up there now.I still believe sampras is the best.
Uhh... please pardon my slowness, but I only half get the commercial. Sampras and Agassi are stating the opposites, right? So the message is, like, "do whatever tickles your fancy" kinda thing, right? Or am I way off? I'm confused because some of it didn't sound like opposites.
Oh okay. Thanks. Hey, jairus, what do you think of the Sampras v. Federer debate? I personally think Federer at his prime (say, the latter half of 2006) would beat Sampras at his but I don't know. I don't think the current Federer could beat Sampras at his prime. Federer's back hand used to be a killer but now it's so error-ridden. Anyway, I'd say Federer>Sampras by the slightest of margin.
