This is one of my favorite songs. I can still remember the summer I was 12 listening to this record over and over while reading Stephen King's The Stand.
For the poor unenlightened sap who asked how this should be called music. It's called music because music is what seeps deep into your soul and creates emotion just like looking at a great piece of art. What SHOULD I call music ? Maybe some GaGa, or some J-lo, Lil Wayne ?
you must be a little slow let me explain i shut the song of 20 seconds early cause my mind was about to explode pondering as to how this is called music.
@timjmoran this song came out before Blue Monday. A lot of their earlier stuff plays on the same theme. Listen to the song 586 off of power corruption and lies and you'll see what I mean
Bought the seven inch of "everything's gone green" with the red cover. Friends had it with yellow, blue and green covers. Always felt the red was best because it was the one I had. Sad youth turns to sad manhood, hey ho! Still play it.
Awesome song. New Order at its finest. The vidoe makes sense in a dark, sad, and satirical way. Video of training for LAPD riot control in the 60's and everyone went green. Classic.
what a mindblowing song from New Order, another track that remains to good old times in BFBS with John Peel - RIP John, miss you so much, never missed any of your session in these days :-(
@litlgrey who cares, it wouldnt have been the same anyway. Those were Ian's feelings in those songs, not theirs. I'd rather ask why he killed himself in the first place
@StrokedGT I know what you're saying, but... you're talking about material from 1981 here, not Ceremony/In a Lonely Place from the previous year, which Curtis of course wrote. As for why... I'd say between his widow's book, New Order's statements, and the various film treatments, they've all explained it quite well. He was depressed about his increasingly out of control epilepsy, and scared about the New York gig. Plus, he seemed a bit unhinged anyway.
'movement' to 'power, corruption, lies' was my favorite NO period. they still had the ghost of Ian inside of their music. you can hear it. and then they took off.
A factus song that still sounds fresh to this day......nearly 30 years later. Barneys finding his range and backing of hooky are almost Beachboys like. How come Al Gore or Ed Begley Jr. doesnt play this as a theme song? Everythings gone green?
This sounds very similar to Blue Monday, but when I first heard "True Faith" only a few days ago, that quickly became my best song, just beating The Cure's "Disintegration".
Best song in the Hacienda in 83 so cool. What a tune. Here some more cool music from Liverpool band Shack on my channel or go to their website Shacknet thanks : )
good sound on this clip, and it seems like the same version I heard years ago when all the band members walked off one at a time leaving the drummer to end the song. It ran for twice to three times as long as this version. I would love ti know how to get a copy of that clip?
@HawK047 indeed! great musicians, geniuses really, and a past of conscious decisions. so the stories and the angst of which they sang touch(ed) so deeply all of us - except for those with no musical sensibility at all, the kind that dislikes a profound aesthetical work like this one. ian would be so so proud indeed.
@HawK047 No he wouldn't have!..he fucking quit the band and life..why? because he was a drugged up scared little boy who had success right there for the taking and chose to die! New Order sucked with Curtis..they never would have been around as long as they were with his lame self loathing emo before emo was emo bullshit . He did them a huge favor. Ian Curtis couldn't sing his way out of a wet paper bag. Curtis had nothing to do with New Order's success..he quit everything..that's that.
@bornflippy1 How the fuck can you comment on someone you have never known, never understood, never stepped in their shoes. For some, suicide is an easy option, pray to whoever, you dont ever feel the same way.
@TynesideCelt So because someone who has a modicum of fame decides to cash it in and take their own life it means we should martyr them and make them out to be more than they were? I think not. did you know him? did you walk in his shoes? I think not..I was talking about the affect Emo Curtis's suicide had on the future of his former band ...I am not some soppy milquetoast follower wannabe that idolizes some douchebag for being ultimately selfish..I stand by my post.

For anyone who DJs, this is the best song to play right after you get the feeling everyone is fucked up enought to still dance and not fall over themselves. Perfect for 1:45 AM. Outstanding song!
This is early 1960s, and looks like non-lethal weapons training for Los Angeles Police Department. For me a foreshadowing of late 1960s partial revolution and the State's attempts to limit it.
He was Ian Curtis. Died May 1980 after hanging himself in his house. He was epileptic and close friends said he was also paranoid/schizo eventhough he was not officially diagnosed. I love NO, but this clip really sucks,......like the one they recently did for Ceremony - pointless and not even very good....

Got to agree with you there...I love the temptation video though. Victoria Bergsman is so cute.

No, it's official... Michael Shamberg did a lot of videos for New Order, but it was unreleased except on his website.

@Spotnick2 michael is a really cool guy, when i asked him what was the best party he has ever been to, he said, it was when he had finished with new order their first video and they wanted to celebrate and called some friends in manchester - and they came with two busses, all on ecstasy ;) unfortunately he is very sick now.
