the begining is simply giving you information that will be useful later on in the anime. it's so you guys don't become idiots later and post a question about it.

and though this is a good anime... it seems choppy at times, and brunner's lack of registering to his converter has left a watermark that at times makes me wanna go someplace else to watch...

Actually, in some cases the dubs are better than the original. This is extremely obvious in RahXephon.

It is possible to make a good english dub, R.O.D. the TV and Gunslinger Girl are both excellent. Most of the others that I have seen are lacking, though.

It's possible if you get the right voice cast and one that actually puts effort into conveying their roles. Sure, most English dub voice actting isn't on par with the original Japanese version. But for dub casts that do put the effort into conveying their roles as close to the original portrayal as possible, you have to admire that they are at least trying.
