I love the final result! I also utilize acrylic as background color base, or dark base of a detailed part of the painting. I gonna experiment more, thanks for shared!
i totes just whip up paintings like this in like 20 mins all the time hey.... just kidding i'm borderline retarded at art compared to you (and probably most other average people) also nice song.... also nice picture, this video enthuses me, you're a clever rapscallion
I have watched your videos for a long time. Being a relatively 'safe' artist, I bit the bullet and started a 2x3' drawing yesterday. That's not so much the scary part. I will finish and spray fixative tonight...painting tomorrow. Eesh. Thank you for inspiring me. I love how you have the finite detail mixed with the love of abstract. Brilliant. xo
You're a wonderful artist! I am very inspired by your creations; I'd like to try painting with a similar style to yours. But when you make your oil paint drip on your canvas, what do you mix with the paint to make it so liquidy?
This is only the second video I've seen of yours. So far I've noted that you're an amazing artist, you can play the guitar, you have the best taste in music, and you're good looking... Are you single?? ;)
When you all of the sudden smeared blue all over I almost shit myself and went "WHAT IS HE DOING?" I scared my cat off my lap haha. I am a beginner at oil paint and I am so anal retentive, I always want it to be just perfect and my gradients are never harsh enough. I wish I could be as free as you with my paintings.
Wow! I have a totally different way of painting. And I don't use oils yet. But now I have another moment, called "I'm done with my old self! Change EVERYTHING!!!", plus my current teacher makes me change my ways. He tells me to paint things I would never paint myself. It makes changing my style easier. So maybe I'll try your way some day soon. :)
artists nowadays have their uniqueness ... i enjoy watching the video. . good job with the water drips and such a belief of completing a painting from the start...
Bro, it goes without saying that your work is brilliant but I'd just like to mention...you have impeccable taste in music. lol I've been introduced to so many bands through your videos xD Thanks a lot, keep it up.
I love your work dear! One of my favourite things to do is watch other artists work - it's very inspirational and also very informative:) (TheNecco from DA)
Your paintings are so insperational.! I actually used to paint like landscape and stuff but, I never was fully satisfied...it kind of bored me. Anyways I saw your painting videos and you inspired me to learn how to draw.! I love drawing now. After I get to a place where im comfortable with my drawings I plan on painting again this time with acrylics and oil. Thank you
I probably sound silly ,,,,but watching you paint this beautiful piece of art and listening to "The Greatest" made me cry ! What a talent you have. Are you using a workable fixative over the graphite drawing before you paint to avoid smearing when you do the washes? what brand or what are you using?
on your paintings where you use that red stuff and wipe it off and it makes shading & such.. whats that called? it would help me soo much with painting :)
very interesting technique, i think im going to try it, it goes to show u that even afterdoing art for over 20 years u still learn for the better.. thnx for the vid keep up the great work..
I swear it's like you sculpt when you paint... magic, completely magic... I would love to know the type of paint used. comment or message me back. you are truely a work of art yourself sir. you make the things in my head appear beautifully on canvas.
--but of course, you probably hear stuff like this all the time... I would just like to make myself known along with others who love your work.
You are an amazing artist. Thats a beautiful, serene, powerful painting to me. With a hint of mystery or fantasy. Can u please explain how you was able to do your shading. Was it acrylic watered down? and how do u not get it to smudge your original base sketch?
Hello and thank you. For the shading/color I used oils mixed with extra linseed oil. I sprayed the drawing with KRYLON WORKABLE FIXATIF to prevent smudging. The fixatif also makes the surface of the canvas very smooth which makes it very easy to spread the paint. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching- Mike
@redlung im so sorry, but could you please indicate the part where you used the acrylic and oil paint please, I wanted to try use acrylic and oil together (since im still a student and my teacher wants me try many paint media in one piece, now im kinda learning on how to use these media.
I'm really interested in using acrylics with oils on top like michael, I can't tell if the shading he's doing is with acrylics or oils and then washed with spirits or water :( Wish I knew!
Wow, love your style! What a great way to mix media. I also admire your shamanic technique of drawing the subject-spirit through yourself -- that's ART!
I just fell upon you videos randomly while searching for art videos. Would just like to say your paintings are a huge inspiration. @AmicusClothing Acrylic is water-based, so simply adding water makes it runny and more transparent :) You can even paint with them as you would watercolors, but it's important to have nice quality paints, so that the pigments don't disperse and look very spotty and ugly.
this is my new favorite video of all time. Very interesting your subtractive/smudging paint technique. I've always struggled with just paint. my eyes identify light and shadow.
