  • Amazing. Please, can u say me the order? : First imprimation, then graphite drawing, fixative, acrilic glaze, and finally oil glaze???

  • thats amazing.

  • surely put up the chords for that song :P

  • Very talented.. I loved watching you work!

  • Gorgeous!

  • awesome

  • why is that liquidy blue thing that runs down the face????????????

  • @naijafefe It's blue acrylic paint. I believe he started with the portrait in graphite, moved on to acrylic washes then finished with oil paint.

  • I love the final result! I also utilize acrylic as background color base, or dark base of a detailed part of the painting. I gonna experiment more, thanks for shared!

  • Did you use dry black oil for the base drawing/painting

  • Let's get really stoned together, Michael.

  • Love it, love your style ;)

  • QUE TECNICA ES O QUE PINTURAS SE OCUPAN, SE QUE ES ACRILICO PERO NUNCA VI ESA FORMA DE USARLO?????????

  • what's the runny thing you use?

  • Love your technic, I just tried it and the painting came out perfect!!!! Love ya Micheal shapcott You truly are a great artist!!!

  • The bar you place over the painting as a support - is that a curtain rod?

  • its alright amaturist art seen better paintings

  • Comment removed

  • nice opening, nice paint, nice technique, nice ~ :D

  • What paint do you use for the hair?

  • i like the technic, very original.

  • There are few things I love more than seeing one of my favorite artists painting.

  • good one

  • i totes just whip up paintings like this in like 20 mins all the time hey.... just kidding i'm borderline retarded at art compared to you (and probably most other average people) also nice song.... also nice picture, this video enthuses me, you're a clever rapscallion

  • When he first put the blue on over the face I literally said out loud, "Oh my gosh! What is he doing!?" ....but now I see. It looks beautiful.

  • I have watched your videos for a long time. Being a relatively 'safe' artist, I bit the bullet and started a 2x3' drawing yesterday. That's not so much the scary part. I will finish and spray fixative tonight...painting tomorrow. Eesh. Thank you for inspiring me. I love how you have the finite detail mixed with the love of abstract. Brilliant. xo

  • ur such a bad ass splashin paint around like that, then it turns out beautiful

  • i love your song!

  • i think i just fall in love w u

  • ты крут) очень очень.

  • You're a wonderful artist! I am very inspired by your creations; I'd like to try painting with a similar style to yours. But when you make your oil paint drip on your canvas, what do you mix with the paint to make it so liquidy?

  • Your art is wonderful.

Tu arte es maravilloso. Thanks for sharing.

  • you my friend, have magic.

  • This is only the second video I've seen of yours. So far I've noted that you're an amazing artist, you can play the guitar, you have the best taste in music, and you're good looking... Are you single?? ;)

  • When you all of the sudden smeared blue all over I almost shit myself and went "WHAT IS HE DOING?" I scared my cat off my lap haha. I am a beginner at oil paint and I am so anal retentive, I always want it to be just perfect and my gradients are never harsh enough. I wish I could be as free as you with my paintings.

  • i love your hair

  • Wow! I have a totally different way of painting. And I don't use oils yet. But now I have another moment, called "I'm done with my old self! Change EVERYTHING!!!", plus my current teacher makes me change my ways. He tells me to paint things I would never paint myself. It makes changing my style easier. So maybe I'll try your way some day soon. :)

    It's a really cool work.

  • when ever i see your work it inspires me to make my own.

  • you are magic man! i like you!

  • Fascinating technique!! Beautiful work, friend. Thanks so much for posting the creative process. You are wonderful. Please post more.

  • YES I LOVE WHY? AND YOUR ART.

    Sorry, had to be said.

  • Your paintings are so insperational.! I actually used to paint like landscape and stuff but, I never was fully satisfied...it kind of bored me. Anyways I saw your painting videos and you inspired me to learn how to draw.! I love drawing now. After I get to a place where im comfortable with my drawings I plan on painting again this time with acrylics and oil. Thank you

Thanks so much for sharing these videos with us!

  • well.

this makes me feel like painting again.

Awesome paintings btw, you're really talented (:

  • on your paintings where you use that red stuff and wipe it off and it makes shading & such.. whats that called? it would help me soo much with painting :)

  • In this painting it's oil paint.

  • Thank you :)

  • what kind of pencil did you use for the drawing? Prismacolor? #2 ???

  • You're good!! It's Prismacolor Tuquoise HB

--but of course, you probably hear stuff like this all the time... I would just like to make myself known along with others who love your work.

  • You are an amazing artist. Thats a beautiful, serene, powerful painting to me. With a hint of mystery or fantasy. Can u please explain how you was able to do your shading. Was it acrylic watered down? and how do u not get it to smudge your original base sketch?

    Commenters: songs

First one was: The Vowels, Pt. 2 by Why?

The second song is: The Greatest by Cat Power

  • Hello and thank you. For the shading/color I used oils mixed with extra linseed oil. I sprayed the drawing with KRYLON WORKABLE FIXATIF to prevent smudging. The fixatif also makes the surface of the canvas very smooth which makes it very easy to spread the paint. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching- Mike

  • @redlung sweet this answers my question haha. this rocks man.

  • @redlung im so sorry, but could you please indicate the part where you used the acrylic and oil paint please, I wanted to try use acrylic and oil together (since im still a student and my teacher wants me try many paint media in one piece, now im kinda learning on how to use these media.

    thank you in advance.

  • I'm really interested in using acrylics with oils on top like michael, I can't tell if the shading he's doing is with acrylics or oils and then washed with spirits or water :( Wish I knew!

  • please put the name of songsssss

  • incredible

  • put the name of the songsssss pls xd lol I aprecciate lol xD

  • Looks like Adriana Lima

  • i shal grow my own beard one day and out paint you. lol. amazing work. x

  • what a wonderful artist you are, YOUR WORK IS AMAZING, TRUELY AMAZING. x

  • did you use a reference photo?

  • Hey Michael,

I just fell upon you videos randomly while searching for art videos. Would just like to say your paintings are a huge inspiration. Keep up the amazing work and please post more videos if you find time, I really enjoy watching and learning from them, if I had the cash I'd certainly buy one but right now I'm just a poor art student!

  • funny and beauty five stars michael ;)

  • I love it!

  • That painting was amazing!

    Loved the music too!

    Great job man!

    Subbed 4 sure.

  • Talented AND Emo!!

    xo

  • I really like your style alot!! How do you make the acrylic so blendable and almost erasable with the rag? Do you mix it with something? Please explain this to me, I want to learn how to do that. Thanks! peace :)

  • @AmicusClothing Acrylic is water-based, so simply adding water makes it runny and more transparent :) You can even paint with them as you would watercolors, but it's important to have nice quality paints, so that the pigments don't disperse and look very spotty and ugly.

  • 0:40 for painting start

  • Love your work! :)

  • I love it!

  • Enough with the singin' and paint already! LOL

  • this is my new favorite video of all time. Very interesting your subtractive/smudging paint technique. I've always struggled with just paint. my eyes identify light and shadow. I love the tight graphite line work combined with the very loose consistency and use of the paint. Reminds me of water color without leaving water marks. I'm guessing water color would also distort the preliminary image. and Was the lion in the background a blueprint for her expression? Very much awesome man. Love it!!!!!

  • Loved watching you both, singing and paintin!

  • Thank you for adding another video.

I get lost in your work, and the music really does assist in the departure.

    LuV

  • Very nicely put together! So you draw the figure first, then paint? Maybe that would help me. I'll try it. :)

  • very inspirational. I really enjoy seeing this stuff...keep em coming.

    Whos the music by?

    Shaun

  • "Why" by The Vowels

    "The greatest" by Cat Power
