Hey im buying a new guitar this week and im debating whether i should buy this guitar or the epiphone les paul jr. Ive heard good things about both and was wondering if anyone had an opinion. Im gonna be playing mostly rock and punk rock im looking for a green day kind of sound.

Get the guitar...Get pretty good(1-2 years)

THEN EITHER

A. Buy another guitar that suits you better(Ibanez =shredding, Fender=Blues for example)$200-800

OR

B. Upgrade the pickups of the Special 2(Passive Seymour Duncans) and keep on flying($130-200)

Either way is a win win...especially when you consider that you only spent $160 on the guitar....Its a good deal IMO

I stuck with one guitar for a year, but needed 2 get an electric so i saved up 600 dollars and bought a nice one. i have one of these and its nice, but it is still a beginner guitar. @DrFringo hey i dont own it but ive tried it, for blues and classic rock get a standard stratocaster. if you like heavy metal get a ibanez if you want classic rock then get a les paul, for a first guitar i would not recommend this guitar but dont buy something to expensive a good bye would be a epiphone les paul plus top or plain top they range from 400$ to 500$ for plain and 500$ to 600$ for a plus top .

@krenar222 That's a good question - I have an Epiphone LP Jr (one pickup version) and the G and B strings forever went out of tune. I switched the tuners for Gotoh SG38's and that solved the problem.

This whitey color, makes me want to buy this guitar, buy some inlay fret board LP stickers (so that it looks like a true les paul) buy new pickups (gold cover ) all the gold hardware, new tuners (gold les paul shaped) install a pickguard(black) and in that theres 100dlls , so with 260 you can get an improved LP Special II that sounds way better and that looks way better , it will eventuallt look like a LP CUSTOM, not that bad ass but It will not look so cheap, due to that its alrready improved.

@DorkWithTheFork it stays in tune ok. its not amazing but its ok. when u cange the tuning on all of the strings, it would raise or lower the tuning on the rest of the string if im changing most or all of the strings. its its a one string change like from standard to drop d, no probs. And when you hit on the strings really hard and do really hard strumming. its stays in tune overall. idk if its a humidity factor or what cause i live like 100 miles off the gulf coast so there is alot of humidity.

@jbcarpio Im planning to get a pickguard on mine though the volume knob is closer to the neck than other 4 knobs les pauls so u have to cut part of the pickguard away but it wont look ugly, the cutted part goes under the volume knob at least thats the way im gonna get the pickguard on, and change of pickups and adding pickup covers :)
