had a 91' turbo myself- pulled .94g did a 6 sec 0-60 ran a 14.8 95mph 1/4 topped out at 145mph ran the slalom @ 70mph stock, and all for around 30k loaded. where have the true sports cars gone toyota?
@ryanb615 Yep. When we were taking the car apart to redo it we found one of their business cards inside one of the doors. I have the old article from Import Tuner magazine on them and the car somewhere too. The engine was shot when we got it and we put a ton of work into it.
There is more lag than I like but not too bad. Power starts kicking in at 3500 RPM then you're pressed in your seat by 4500 RPM then never stops pulling hard and will rev to 9,000 RPM. Definitely best to keep it revved high.
This car has more potential than a heavy ass Supra. But if you can afford it, then more power to you. Toyota all the way either way, right? I'm total Toyota Fanboy.
Wings can actually be useful you know, and on a car like the mr2 (mid engine RWD).. it can save your life!!! the wing may make the difference between laying down a nice accidental drift and spinning out and wrapping it around a tree!
this thing is insane!!!! i got an 87 and i wanna do some cool shit like paint etc not too much on engine ha ha its already getting looked by cops and i dont even speed lol theyre so rare cops just go... "wtf?" lol but im too broke for any of that ha ha so ill just dream
damn this is a nice MR-2 i just got mine in yellow too is this signal yellow or solar yellow id like to know because im going to be respraying my car soon and mines a 91.
Too many forums to list here. If you do some searches they come up easy since the MR2 is pretty rare. I would suggest going with a 2.0 3SGTE turbo and not the 2.2 NA. The transmission and other parts of the chassis are different and it will cost a lot more money to try and upgrade a 2.2 and there's not a lot of parts out there for the 2.2.
Well I was able to get the 91 Non-turbo cheap as a fixer upper, but its an automatic. Is the chassis essentially the same with exception to the suspension? If the frame is weaker I'll probably keep it stock unless its an easy reinforcement. I hope to sell it then get a manual MR2, hopefully a version 3(1993) or higher.
Depends on how crazy you want to go. If you watch the video I list some of the mods done to the car and it is setup to handle well over 600 horsepower (forged internals, fuel rail, injectors, cams, valve train, etc.). If you want to go with a more mild setup with stock turbo do some research on how high the boost can go and other things like a fuel cut defencer you may need.
Don't push the stock turbo too much, if you wonna kick up the boost, try using the ceramic turbo from the JDM engine, it can handle more boost a lot better, the USDM engine is already running the highest/safest boost to run before the turbo gets over worked. The USDM I think is set at 12PSI if I remember correctly and the JDM is set at 15PSI stock. Also check on the MR2 forums lots of people can tell you exactly what you wonna know, what to get, how to get it, how to fit it in, everything.
hey guys i really like the dual GReddy exhaust, I have been looking to purchase it but i cant find it. I can find the single kit but not the dual, could you help me out?
You can get an MR2 Turbo pretty cheap and there are a lot of aftermarket parts. The 3S-GTE engine is incredible at making power for how small it is (2.0 liter) and is reliable.
A stock MR2 Turbo has about 200hp at the motor (maybe something like 160 at the wheels) and is more than the stock Golf. The MR2 is already lightweight so I would think the stock MR2 is faster. I've seen over 800hp from highly modified MR2 Turbos and I'm not sure what the GTi can do.
the gti mark 2 is unbeleavable when tweeked up specially the G60 version thats awesome but its rare, whats average price on mr2's? you seem like your a big fan of them like am talkin about a 1992 model...
A 1993 MR2 would be the best because an LSD was added, brakes are bigger and the suspension was changed. Mine is a '92 but has a '93 LSD transmission, brake kit and custom suspension. Average price for stock or close to stock around $6,000-7,000 some a bit less some more.
where do you get a hold of a trd2000GT is it just a body kit, or is this the one you had to send into the factory a few years ago.?i really have no idea..
I have the issue of Import Tuner this car was featured in. The TRD 2000GT bodykit was sold out in mid 1999. When available, they were approx $7,000.
Why mess with a great thing? The car looked damn near flawless in Import Tuner, except the ghetto-fabricated Scoop on the back trunk that led to the intercooler.
This exact car, as well as the Castrol Supra is what I think of when I hear "JGTC" or "GT Car"
are running 455.4 or 456.711 i got 390.2 and on the gate i got 567 ra to control the temp also i noticed that you dont have any rmm or is it installed behind the engine?
Not bad. I get 276bhp at the wheels at 21psi and a high flowed CT26. Your car looks great. I would love to get my hands on a TRD body kit like that. Looks phat! :-)
had a 91' turbo myself- pulled .94g did a 6 sec 0-60 ran a 14.8 95mph 1/4 topped out at 145mph ran the slalom @ 70mph stock, and all for around 30k loaded. where have the true sports cars gone toyota?

420 HP? On the rear wheels?
How much turbo lag is there on that thing with 420? Does it have any power at all without keeping the revs continuously high?

What are some of the best MR2 forums? I'm in the process of buying a non-turbo with a 2.2 liter, then I'll throw a turbo on there.
IAmFalseFreedom 3 years ago

Wow, I thought the only difference was the lack of turbo and bigger engine. Are the suspension parts better on the turbo?
IAmFalseFreedom 3 years ago
Suspension is better on turbo and if you get a '93 or newer then the transmission will also have an LSD.
TrickedOutToons 3 years ago
