Concerning her looks. Psychologically speaking often times you find very handsome men with not so "good-looking women" ( I put this in quotations marks b/c I believe every woman has her charm). The reasoning behind that may be that these men get complemented so much on their looks that they get sick of it and decide to go beyond looks in mate. They get tired of the superficiality of external beauty & the importance given to it in today's society that it's almost an act of rebelion against it.

I think that her intellect, personality & talents attracted him. I think that he's not gay as many have commented, I just think that he is comfortable in his own skin to be who he is, he's just a very open minded man, he lived in London, Paris, Milan & New York & has that western european viewpoint of live and let live. he keeps his love life private
