Sigh. I'm quite happy with the way Walsh handled it. Tipoki wasn't hurt. Darcy was reckless and a bit amped. No harm done. A penalty given and the game continued on. I get a bit tired of refs over-reacting (See Rolland and Warburton). As an aside: Rua Tipoki can handle himself. If he'd taken umbrage, Darcy would have been sorry.
@187prettyboy You have great ears - because im yet to hear or see one peice of evidence showing BOD complaining about the spear tackle. Infact it was the NZ press that made a big deal about it and got all defensive - making the whole situation bigger than it was.
@187prettyboy FYI O'Driscoll refuses to talk about as its not an issue, and that guy has took a lot of hits and came backplus can get down with the forwards that is no wimp you
nothing accidental here lol great post thegit. awesome spear tackle darcy, without the ball too - oh that's right he was throwing his toys because they were losing, very characteristic of northern hemisphere players : )
i agree that that was';t an accident and I am not trying to justify what d'arcy did, but
was rua tipoki teamed up on by two people, did he get his shoulder dislocated, tour ended, was he captain, and would anyone really have cared if he had been at all injured......no
Therefore you can't compare the two situations.
it seems that there are two types of kiwi. The pleasant reasonable and normal ones and theres the bigotted tossers. From what I can see you fall into the latter category.
did Rua Tipoki write a book about this?? where was all the media hype and national outrage, kiwis bad mouthing Darcy at every opportunity....oh wait thats right Kiwis JUST GET ON WITH IT!!!
Tipoki was awesome player, Ive seen him do some mean hits
was rua tipoka teamed up on, have his shoulder dislocated, have his tour ended, was he captain. also is he that instrumental in the nz team and does anyone care about him?
no? then don't be a tosser mate and get on with your life
@doynsc TIpoki would have never made the All Blacks team. BOD would have never made the it onto club reserves competition in NZ. The other major difference is that Tipoki does not cry about it on national TV like a girl.
@187prettyboy the other difference is that brian odriscoll hardly ever complained about that tackle, he just left it. oh yeah and i guess the other difference is that odriscool mabye dislocated his shoulder?
@EvKrusty yeah pathetic really. cool spear tackle d'arcy why didnt i ever hear about this? because kiwis dont give a fuck and the lions' odriscoll cries were too loud. dangerous tackle = dangerous tackle you northern hemisphere pups harden up
That's hilarious, if an Irishman does it it's accidental and out of character, if a new zealander does it it's premeditated attempted murder. Can someone say double standards.
more dangerous than driving them into the ground??? no its not?? its tackeling technique gone wrong wher you lift your arms up on impact rather than pumping your legs.
Darcy is World class.. Dodgy tackle ill admit but he defo is not known to be a dirty player.. ask anyone he's played with or against.. he's also a gent, and well liked in rugby circles...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Watching this reminds me of what a piece of shit Darcy really is. If you look at him during matches, if someone scores a try or anything, he always just goes in pushing everyone, starting fights. I hate players like that. You wouldn't get Luke Fitzgerald doing that.
For God's sake shiznykid are you stupid? I didn't say he was shit, i said he was a piece of shit. In other words he's an asshole. You know what? you're a piece of shit too.
What does knowing whether or not he's an arsehole have to do with knowing about rugby? Anway just watch during matches. He always pushes all the other team's players and gets really niggly with them. Plus as you saw there he spear tackled Tipoki long after the ball had gone. Obviously not very clean.
Give me another specific example or two of him being involved in dirty play please. Has he ever been cited for anything? Wow, a rugby player being niggly, what a scumbag! I've never seen him throw a sly punch or kick someone on the ground, the above is actually the only example of dirty play I've ever seen from him. The comment that he's not an arsehole referred to your assertion that he is an arsehole when its very far from the truth.
Oh give me a break. So you can only consider someone to be a dirty player if you have a whole list of their misdemeanors. And he's never been cited. Neither was Tana Umaga.
Well being able to cite evidence or examples of foul play when branding a player an arsehole or dirty certainly helps when making a point. I didn't ask for a list, I asked for one or two other examples which you have yet to provide. Umaga and Mealamu's tackle was horrible but I can't think of any other examples of dirty play from Umaga and I've followed the S14 and Tri Nations for about 10 years now.
When did D'arcy or Umaga go on killing sprees? I've asked you to provide evidence or examples of other pieces of foul play for D'arcy and you've still failed to do so. I'm just going to assume that you can't recall any other incidents and are going on one off incidents, if you actually back up your arguement I'll be pleasantly surprised.
No I don't have any other examples. My point is obviously that just because something is a once off, doesn't make it alright. Umaga could have ended O'Driscoll's career with his tackle, could have broken his neck, and it was premeditated. Darcy's wasn't as bad but he still could have done a lot of damage to Tipoki, who did nothing to Darcy to deserve it. If Tipoki had been seriously injured, you probably would be saying Darcy is scum. Just because he wasn't doesn't make what Darcy did alright.
Fair enough, I can call any rugby player who has done one dangerous thing in his rugby career that is dangerous a scumbag so, Tipokis a scumbag for punching oppsition players in the S14, BODs a scumbag for shoeing Ian Dowling in the face, Alan Quinlan is a scumbag for jumping up and down on a Cardiff players knee, Paul O'Connells a scumbag for beating the head off the welsh lock in 2005 etc. I can't actually think of many rugby players who aren't scumbags using your logic but there you go.
Why do people keep saying this is just like the O'Driscoll incident??? This is nowhere near as bad. 1st its 1 player not 2. 2nd Tipoki had just passed the ball, O'Driscoll was nowhere near the ball. 3rd he's not slammed head first into the ground, D'Arcy releases allowing Tipoki to use his hands to break the fall. 4th this type of tackle happens occasionally, O'Driscoll's was a never before seen attack.
Dangerous play, deserves at least a yellow, but doesn't compare to O'Driscoll incident.
And for those who complain this didn't get any publicity, Ma Nonu did an identical tackle on D'Arcy later that same year. Nobody talks about that tackle either!
As for Aucklandrulez who said "Fuckin stupid Irish twat, the stereotype about you guys must be true" Not all irish are this way just like in NZ. A spare tackle is a spare tackle no matter who done it. For your information on the lions tour when O'Driscoll got spared it was the ENGLISH that kept this in the papers not the IRISH.
