  • She was one of the greatest actresses of her age.

  • Does anyone know the lyrics? I am doing a show in the hackney empire, where she performed, and I have to be her, but I can't find the lyrics anywhwere. If anyone could help that would be great, thanks.

  • She made a pretty good looking man. Lovely voice as well. I love this Edwardian music. Sometimes makes me feel as though I was meant for that era...

  • This is so evocative of this time: the last vestages of Edwardian Britains superficial jollity, moral superiority and unquestioning patriotic daring do. The first world war totally shifted human consciousness in a profound way and when u hear these popular songs of the time you are catapulted back into a time and a mind set that is both sweetly innocent and terrifyingly naieve. Wonderful posting with great pictures to accompany.

  • How I love these songs

Nothing quite like it any more.

  • I'll be singing this all one all week, even though I'm gay. XD it's songs like this one which have inspired me to do historical re-enacments. I want to ignite young people's interest in the past. Nothing gives me greater joy than to see the delight in a child's eyes after i talk to them while 'in character'.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  • So glad you like it. Keep up the re-enactments history is so important and it is great if you can inspire some youngsters to realise how interesting it is.

Shouldn't worry about being gay, after all, Vesta Tilley was a male impersonater on stage.

  • Second time I watched this video and must say you have done an incredible research work for the pics I love the pics and find the music not beautiful but so very interesting THANK YOU for uploading this GEM !!!!

    Your fin lady LOL

  • No, you couldn't say that it was beautiful but it is full of character. It is also interesting because it is a piece of history and it reminds you of the horror that was going on in Europe at that time. Glad you enjoyed it, there will be more tunes from this period being uploaded.
