  • What is next?

Just had another listen to this!!! Great stuff.

You have the gift my friend. cheers....

  • Thanks for a great rendition of a great yes tack. You have nailed this track down to the last note.

I can not fault your bass paying. 2 dislikes????? Morons I can only say.

You can play bass that's for sure. Thanks a million.

  • dude , i realize you posted this video 4 years ago , and i am sad i didnt run across it sooner than today. That being said , I think that "Tormato" is a very highly UNDERATED lp , and is actually my second favorite YES lp after " Going for the one" ...I think the work you did to learn the bass lines for this song are incredible........Keep your chops up and you will go far if you havent already ....Cheer's from a freezing Tulsa , Oklahoma.........keep in touch ,,Laney'

  • INCREDIBLE!

  • Still my favorite right here...

  • @Philmacrakken Thanks Phil! Happy New Year...all the best

  • Two thumbs up guy !!! Brillaint job, I like it very much, thanks !!!

  • WAOWWW

I'm a progressive rock addict and this piece is a monument !

What a pleasure to see that true young talent still exists and gives tribute to this music.

    That's a good breath in today's music.

    Thanks and thanks again.

From an old french guys...(sorry for my english)

  • That was great!...

  • You are amazing.

  • Steve Howe and rick wakeman over did their contributions on many YES SONGS.

At the time when I purchased these amazing albums! I over looked their over contributions on the YES albums!!! Some 32 years later!!!

I now find that Howe and Wakeman over did it. Total overkill for me.

    Still great stuff.

  • This is one of my all-time favorite YES songs, which always seems to be molded around a brilliant Squire solo. '-) I saw this performed live in 1978 after Tormato was released and have loved it since. It's a shame Chris doesn't play this on stage more often - it's fantastic - and you've nailed it once again. GREAT work!

  • @whiterobin I understand what you mean :) But it's just the way it is, and we still dig it anyway. Thanks!

  • You are a gifted and talented player. Its nice to see true talent still exists.

Keep up the good work for all to see. Cheers......

  • @windsors My pleasure to play these wonderful songs by wonderful musicians. Thank you very much.

  • @adolfobit Muchas gracias!

  • Great job with a wonderful tune. Rickenbacker, effects and everything!

  • @mikolasa Thank you very much!

  • Super nice job, Miquel. This is the sort of playing that makes me wonder why some bassists think they need more than 4 strings. I don't suppose there's a tab of this floating around somewhere? And wouldn't it be cool for the current Yes lineup to bring this one back? I've always felt Chris' work here was a progenitor to what he did on Drama.

  • @yeshead I have never seen a tab for this song yet. Btw, the closing track of the new album, called "Into the Storm" is somewhat reminiscent of this particular bass sound. I would sure love the would play it live (as well as the whole of Silent Wings, of course)!

  • @miguelbass Yeah, "Into the Storm" does sound a lot like the rock jam part of this song. The current lineup did play "ItS" at the last show on the tour that just ended, so I'm guessing it'll be in the set the next time they come around. Hopefully with "Silent Wings" as well! And you have a great ear to figure out these parts. Sometimes the notes blur together and it's not always easy to get them exactly right.

  • You need to get a life..............your too bloody good on that instrument.

  • @Mega80schild :)) thanks

  • @avirexdazedconfused Hey, thanks!

  • Very nice...your video made me like this song all over again. Sweet, dude.

  • @BreakingOgilvy Again thanks for stopping by! Greetings!

  • muy bueno !!! te felicito!!

  • that was the shit !!! awesome!!! love that rick and squires style is my favorite.

  • I am blown away !!! BRAVO !!!

  • @samurray5 Thank you!

  • fantastic job...nailed it completely....and HOW MUCH FUN can you have playing a bassline? reminds me of playing along with a killer jameson Line or geddy Line... so fun. Gret job brother..pleasure watchin this...really. Thanks

  • @pb9717 Thank you very much, it's rewarding to know the enjoyment is transmitted to those who watch it!

  • Awesome!

Nice Squire edition Rick bass, btw.

I've just watched a shit-ton of your bass covers...I'm sure Messier Squire would approve

  • @MuscLA Yes it's grown to a shit-ton :) I uploaded #50 last weekend. Thanks for watching my very first one!

  • Bitchin'. You need a band.

  • @uninoculated Hi - I play live now and then but not really near this style, although I try to throw some bits...

  • @miguelbass Do you have a copy of Chris Squire "Fish Out Of Water?"

  • Excellent man! Words cannot describe how awesome this is!

  • @Cj1500 Thank you very much! Happy New Year :)

  • Your talent is just amazing! I try and watch this particular video once a day. So complicated yet you make it fly!! Good work!

    John

  • @johnswhitt Thank you very much for watching my clips! That's was my first upload :) Merry Xmas

  • I have enjoyed all the clips of yours I have watched. I'm sure Mr. Squire would be impressed. John from Hamilton Ontario Canada

  • @sober8 Thank you very much John. Merry Xmas!

  • Friggin' SWEET! Has to be one of my favorite Yes tunes. What a pleasure to see it performed so well.

  • @howelldude One of my faves too :) It was also my 1st upload! Thank you very much

  • very nice cover! is that bass autographed by chris squire? the Ric is my dream bass...

  • @MCarlson89 It's the edition with his name, a replica (to some extent) of his own bass. Thanks for watching!

  • @MCarlson89 It is a Rickenbacker 4001CS "Chris Squire Limited Edition Signature Series" Bass Guitar.

Only 1000 were ever made. Well......1001, but that's another story.

  • brother you are the shhhhtzaq yes has a bass for the 22nd century blessings.

  • @batbenjie Hey I just tuned 39 today :)) I hope there will be a Yes then and beyond - thanks!

  • 10!

  • @akgalo Thanks :)

  • The Ric is my fav bass. Best tone ever. You have captured the essence and tone of the mighty Fish. Rick Wakeman once theorized (Hoped, actually) that Yes would continue for generations, each musician being replaced, much like an orchestra. I wish nothing but health and long life to Chris Squire, but if someone was needed to "man the Ric"...you would be on a very short list of choices. Bravo!

  • @RonG40 Thank you very much. I remember that interview on Yesyears. I'd like that it would be for real - it's a beautiful idea by Rick anyway!

  • some of chris's best work can be found on tormato especially this song, ive only just started getting into bass playing and to be able to play on the silent wings of freedom like this is definitely something to aim towards and i'll keep coming back to this video until i get there, efew years maybe?!

  • @pinkfloydrule27 I hope so! Most important is to enjoy your playing. Thanks for writing.

  • miguel i admire your passion..my dream was to play bass like you.now i'm older and time has me do other things.so i watch you with the same happiness i would have playing thoughs songs...thanks very much...gio

  • @chett005 Hi Gio! Thank you very much - I hope that you will still manage to find the time to have fun playing! All the best. M

  • FREAKIN' AMAZING!!! YOU"RE GREAT!!

  • @johnswhitt Hello John, Thank you for watching my clips!

  • @luap1236 Dear Paul, always welcome. Thank you for the beautiful wishes :)

  • Nice stand up double bass on the floor 8^)

  • @bassace1358 That's an old german, I got it from my teacher at the time :)

  • I'd love to get a Ric but they are so damn expensive.

  • @ProcolHarum1967 Hi... you never know, watch for a good deal on sites like ebay. Good luck!

  • Goddamn you are so good. What's your favorite Yes song at the moment?

  • @MysteryClown000 Sometimes you have strange questions :) I have been thinking of The Remembering. Maybe because it was 2 summers ago that I did all that big production in my old room, with the projector... about that time I was starting to read Yogananda. If you don't mind... I will pick that one!

  • Fucking awesome !

  • @TheSuperfliez Thanks!!

  • @ivanmunoz14 Ivan - the RM (Rose Morris) 1999 was the designation of the 4001 bass import version to the UK at the time. Rose Morris was the official dealer, so technically the bass should be similar to the 4001S (mono version of the 4001). More details can be found at specific forums like "rickresource" - which I subscribe and recommend.

  • muy bueno lo tuyo Miguel! great job man!!

  • @biondipepe Muchas gracias!

  • Hi Miguel. I decided to come back and visit this masterpiece again. This song is so awesome and amazing how perfectly you play it.

  • @ProgMom67 You are always welcome here, Julie! Thank you very much for your visit.

  • Hi! What harmonizer are you using on this? And which envelope filter are you using? Thanks!

  • @pecanpie100 Hi - At the time I had a Guitar Rig demo and I used their "Auto filter". As I didn't use a harmonizer, instead I used a Chorus that was part of guitar rig too. I can suggest trying that blend with the material you have available (ex Boss FT-2 and CE-3)

  • When I started listening to YES, at 14, I was (and still I am!) amazed by Chris Squire's bass playing and sound. For some reason, some years after, I finally decided to express music by playing drums. But Squire was about to 'seduce me' into playing the bass guitar! Besides all that, I may be repetitive (I gave the same comment in another clip), but Miguel, your work is absolutely great!!!! I have found myself listening to your covers more than to the original YES recordings!!!

  • @carlesgom That's a great about Chris playing... it's appealing even to those who don't have bass as main instrument or even don't play any instrument. Thank you very much for your kind comments.

  • ha ha ha...i can't believe someone actually gave a thumbs down on this.

  • @Bagatronic wasn't me :)

  • Very nice indeed.

  • @windishmear Thank you very much.

  • That was awesome! Have always loved this bass line and song - rock on! Todd Scotland, St. Pete, FL.

  • @toddscotland Todd, Thank you very much. It's a masterpiece bassline, no doubt - Greetings from Portugal!

  • o men! you are awesome great!, i love this one. if i only hear it, i can say its only a Chris Squire practice, or a exctract of sound of the real song.

    SO INCREDIBLE!

i have one question, do you get the tab for some where? or you get it hearing the song? im looking for something to can play it...

well congratulations buddy you are so good!

  • @sapomusaburres Hi. Thank you very much for your comments. I really take all things by ear. It takes (for this song especially) some days to practice it a lot and get it all to memory. Eventually next time I try to play it it will take less :))

  • The bass in this song is so damn sexy and you did a great job with it. Bravo

  • @Zizagoonium915 Thank you very much!

  • bro i looked every where for tabs i couldnt find please help.....i really want to learn that music.

  • @aassyr1111 Hi, really sorry, I never use tabs miguelbass..com/faq

  • please tabs :""(

  • Damn Good. You do a Rick proud.

  • @oddfellow831 Thank you very much!

  • Should be great if you play Future Time/Rejoice from Tormato, well I could say the same for about 50 other YES songs you have not posted here yet! :-)

  • @Dukered21 That will be the next I'd like to cover from Tormato... I love that song(s) really!

  • YES should pay you some fee for marketing their music, as you do it SO WELL!!! Tormato was not among my favorite albums, but after listening to you playing here I've bought Tormato, and I must say I love it. I love the sounds/effects Chris uses through the whole album.

  • You astonish me ! ! ! As I reset my dropped jaw I can only marvel at your incredible talent. Touch and tone are flawless. Amazing ! Do make this instrument your love and career. You must ! You play music, not just notes. I salute you and thank you for this magnificent presentation.

  • @Sitarfixer Thank you very much, my friend. I'll keep doing my best!

  • I remember Chris Squire using this bass sound on the Tormato album. Can you tell me how its done? I can only guess that the Rickenbaker bass is trebly enough to work with a phase shifter. You sound is dead on so you must have a good idea.

YES Summer 2010 North American Tour

  • @pschroeter1 It's written somewhere that it was a Mutron III envelope filter. I used an envelope filter plugin along with a chorus. It's fairly close. I recently got a Boss FT-2 which is really good and resembles the Mutron in some ways.

  • <--- was skeptical until you "went off the farm" a little bit ... really well done ... you hold onto that CS until you die ... great bass ...

  • Thank you! That's the bass and the music for my life all right!

  • the more i watch the more i wonder how the hell did u manage to nail this song

  • incredible steve howe is my mates uncle and he told me that steve thinks you are awesome

  • That's great news, and a big compliment from Steve Howe and yourself. Thank you for letting me know :)

  • This is one of Yes's best instrumental arrangements and you are awesome on Chris's part! In fact, I'd go see you play before I'd go see the band (...these days). Keep up the great work!

  • Thanks :) btw I play live with two bands and do some other work, but not much connected with this kind of music... I'll post something if something interesting will turn up!

  • Bah, seeing you nail every Yes song i love reminds me that i have a long way ahead of me in terms of bass playing :p

Thanks for inspiring me to become better, though!

  • That's the spirit... and having fun while playing! Thank U wel!

  • Enjoying this young man:-)keep it up:-)Say YES to YES:-)Jon's YES:-)))

  • I guess it's your favourite Yes-album? :) Thanks!

  • Tormato is a fine album Sir, however, the earlier albums are better:-)My favourite is The Yes Album followed by GFTO:-)

  • That's a nice choice too :) I have many reasons to Love almost any Yes album, but Fragile is very special to me.

  • absolutely blown away. If there's a technical difference between this and the studio version, I can't hear it.

    Well done

I very much enjoyed that =)

  • That was my first attempt on youtube, it makes me very happy that you enjoyed it! Thanks.

  • the bassline at 3:21 is the best ever!

  • yeah, great :) between the two (sort of) choruses... it's madness

  • Fantastic and note perfect. Well done!!

I have to know what effects you're using? I want this to make my own bass sound better!

  • Hi, Please take a look at my site (miguelbassdotcom) where I have a detailed description of the setup, it's on the faq section. Thanks :)

  • wow again........and again

  • can you tell me what exact Sansamp your using?

  • Sure, it's the Bass Driver DI. Thanks!

  • Ha "lead bass" is even better, you're right!

  • That's one 4001CS that has a great home! Nice playing !

  • I believe all the 1000 made are in good hands! I hope :) Thanks!

  • miguel, It saddens me that I've owned three of those 1000 basses, and I foolishly sold every one of them before they became high value. And, regardless of value, they are so wonderful that I can't imagine what i was thinking!!!!

  • Awesome dude, lets start a yes cover group!

  • Thank you very much! I'm in Portugal btw :)

  • Watching you play that reminds me that Chris Squire is the only bassist I forgive for using a pick. He's such a guitarist in a bassist's body ;) Great job and what a tribute to such an amazingly talented band.

p.s. Nice Squire sig bass! I only have a maple 4003 myself, but love its unique sound.

  • Thank you very much for the kind words. I understand your "guitarrist" compliment though I prefer the term "lead bass" that other apply :)) Nevertheless I understood. Cheers.

  • Absolutely great Squire and Yes are my fav.. never thought I'd see some other player plays his way .. esp.. his sound .. WOW pls take a look at my works :D

  • Thank you very much, and I will! Cheers

  • Well done, Miguel

    Mario, Italy

  • Grazie, Mario!

  • This is really cool - been try to get this tone for a while with Pod Farm and nowhere near - you've got it spot on - well done!

  • Thank you, in fact I am trying to assemble a real mutron (clone) pedal, cause I used I demo version of guitar rig to get the sound but I would like to have such an effect in a pedal.

  • Awesome!!

  • Thanks!

  • Wow! That's fricking great! I've never seen a bass player duplicate that "harmonized Rickenbacker" sound as good as you do! You have the licks down pat and your neck positioning is absolutely perfect! How long have you been playing? I would love to be a friend. What do you say?

  • With pleasure! I replied already ;) I got my first bass at 15 so it's been a while...

  • No, come to America! You can use my Squire, too! I liked how you always nailed the open notes while playing up high. Is this the toughest Squire jam to play in your opinion?

  • The timing is tricky... I had to play it countless times to have it memorized, that's the toughest part - especially the intro, where those open notes occur. There are other tough passages, not sure which one is the hardest. Sound Chaser comes to mind... but I haven't tried seriously yet :) Thanks!

  • I love your video!

    Great player, move to Wales.

  • Thanks :)) Greetings from Portugal! Merry Xmas!

  • Yeah, this cool but it doesn't quite sync up at times- there at moments when Squire is hitting the open E, i believe, during the main riff and the player here isn't- and vice versa- the player picks the open E when squire isn't and the player's open E is inaudible at those moments. I'm interested to check out the others though.

  • Excellent. I've been a big fan of this track since it first came out and you have it completely covered.

Great to see this level of playing is still valued.

  • Thank you very much!

  • And one more note. This guy can play, thats obvious and has learned the song well. And, nice bass, I have one just like it. #800. I had Jon, Chris, Steve, Rick and Alan sign mine at The Paramount Theatre in Seattle...

  • Great performance yes,....too bad its Chris and not the guy on the video. I'm not buying for a second this guy can reproduce the EXACT sound Chris had in the studio in his bedroom. You are not hearing this guy play!! Sorry. I know this song too well.....

  • I think he will take that as a compliment :)

  • what effects are you using?

  • Hello! I used a Guitar Rig demo, I think it was version 2. It had the autofilter effect which is the closest I got to the original Mutron pedal that was used. It works as an envelope filter. Then I blended it with a Chorus effect also from the same software. Thanks.

  • Do you need a singer? I can do it!! I'd love to sing with you!! Hugs

  • Do you wanna try? See the video "Soon" Maybe we can try "Soon" translated to your Spanish language. Thanks!

  • This sounds soo good!

  • Thanks Kevin!

  • chris squire signature on the pickgaurd?

  • Yes, it's the limited edition based on Chris' own bass. Cheers!

  • damn, nice $4000 bass. christ that shit is sick

  • Well wasn't that expensive then... but now it's becoming a collectors piece. Thanks for watching!

  • Superb!! Very inspiring and educational. You are a great musician. I wish you all the best. Thanks for posting your videos!

  • Thank you very much for your words. You're very welcome on the channel!

  • beautiful song! beautiful job!

  • thank you very much!

  • Man, I love this song so much, as always you did it so well. Congratulations

  • I love it too - thanks for watching!

  • fabulous man!!!

  • Thank you!

  • I just wanna say: fantastic!

  • Muito obrigado!

  • That was fantastic. !!!! Half way through I noticed you have a Squire bass ! It sound great and you play great.

How do you get that sound ???? What are you doing to get that amazing Squire sound ?

  • I just connect the bass to the sansamp bass driver DI. In this case the fx were made by plugins, but the sound is really thanks to the sansamp. Thanks for watching!

  • what are you using to get the Squire ´wah´ effect , I´m sure you know what I mean.Or is that sound inherent in the guitar itself ? thanks
