Can anyone tell me why the band is called Telefone Tel Aviv even though it has no link to Israel nor the city of Tel Aviv?

The minute i heard the song i loved it, it somehow managed to remind me so many things, and events, it's a bit of a sad song and it feels like it touches you...

@prototypeman83 they were completely wasted back at Josh's parents house in New Orleans. Charlie was working on music and Josh was playing Megaman and as he was playing he was scribbling down ideas. Eventually he wrote down "Telefon Tel Aviv and Farenheit Fair Enough" and didn't think much of them until two months later when they wondered what to call the project and picked Telefon Tel Aviv as they thought that people would probably remember it. :)

Oh man, I couldn't disagree more! It's super emotional to me--and very melancholy, but for sure powerful stuff. I guess a lot of people aren't especially empathetic or into emotive stuff.

As far as electronic music goes, having R&B, personal lyrics makes it LESS generic, I'd think.

Im actually also one who enjoys emotive music. However I feel that if the song had a different type of vocal approach I would enjoy it more. That "soulful" singing has been replicated many times which for me is one of the main reason why I dislike RnB and why it brings this song down. The vocals totaly distract my atention from the delicate music TTA make. It's all about the subtleties for me. Can't realy hear that when there's some guy singing over the top with no sensitivity or dynamics.

Gotcha. I guess, for me, the un-dynamic way that he sings in that song really captures the melancholy feel very well. I haven't heard much RnB take that approach. I felt like TTA was reinventing a style with that entire album, and the music had no more or less focus than the vocals. It's definitely a lot smoother and cleaner than Fahrenheit Fair Enough.

Anyway, I'm glad that you dig the group!
