First of all, let me just say that I'm not a rabid Trekkie fan by any means, but I had watched the movie and liked it. Now, wading through the vast fandom, I had come across many shippers and chiefly among them are Kirk/Spock fans who never hesitate to say that they are STRAIGHT WOMEN. Now, what they say about Spock/Uhura is that the only reason he was paired with a black woman is because the writers were desperately trying to prevent any GAY Kirk/Spock happening. Is there any truth to this?
@Jenand444 In the original series there were brief flirty moments between Spokc/Uhura. But the reason that so many people ship, what has been lovingly deemed 'Spork' in some places is because it was not only one of the first slash pairings-but the original actors; Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner repeatedly have made jokes about it, written fanfictions, and to this day have a bromance to end all bromances. so it's a small possibility that they wanted to hush fans-but its not definite.

The series had 40 years to build on its K/S fan base and the revamp just tramples all over it. With the way things are going I can already see a Kirk/Uhura/Spock triangle forming with both men vying for Uhura. I'm not sure if it would be wise move now. Women are more vocal these days and I'm not entirely sure how they would feel being slighted like that. Gone are the days where women were forced to enjoy gay romance behind closed doors while men basically flaunted it.

She didn't even watch ANY Star Trek because she thought her acting was so amazing, she didn't have to know anything about how Nichelle Nichols acted as the character. *shrug*
@StoneKnivesBearskins - I don't think she came out and said something like that. All of the actors were told to not try to imitate the originals. They were supposed to do their own thing and try to capture the character from their POV. I don't think Chris Pine really communicated with Shatner much, but I think it was mostly Shatner not wanting too. ZQ and Leonard worked together for obvious reasons, but mostly just because they are two of the coolest people ever. Spock has always been my fav. =)

Some simply want the information in the script, and extrapolate their characterization from there. Add what JJ had told them about "not imitating" anyone, and I think that may be why Zoe did that. And she is a pretty amazing actress, but I don't get the feeling she's stuck up ...
@katmatally I accept that opinion. However, the approach she took to the character really showed because IMO, she was the worst of the new cast. Karl Urban was absolutely brilliant, and Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine did the best they could with what Jar Jar Abrams gave them, but Zoe Saldana just didn't work for me.

Nope, it's in "Journey to Bable" that Spock has Sarek's blood type with a few human antibodies. There are some things in the movie that it is assumed people will know. Fans will, newcomers won't but it's wasn't important enough to the story to explain.

The whole scene is in the gag reel, but Chris and Zach are speaking in crazy accents. It's too funny!
This is a great video and oddly enough a lot of people prefer Quinto as Spock and have also decided to stop watching him as Sylar. I think Spock and Uhura make an excellent couple!! Good for them!!

This video served as my muse for the most recent chapter of one of my Spock and Uhura fan fiction stories. I watched it over and over for several days and I still am not tired of it. So beautiful and fitting.

Lovely job. I especially like how you kept Sarek's thread going through the story. Most of the other Spock/Uhura vids focus solely on them, but their story happens in the larger context. Nice job intermixing dialog and silent images with a great, laid-back song.
But did you hear his voice breaking as he said it! That wonderful touch that Zachary Quinto made the character all the better. I have to say I missed Mark Lenard, but Ben Cross did a good job of carrying another great character on.
@blkntandogs: OMG yes. When he talks to McCoy on the Bridge his voice conveys stunned hurt & self-disgust w/o going overboard; then in the elevator scene it ALmost breaks. But it doesn't. He maintains control. But watch his breathing as he walks to the Transporter Room. I agree with you about Mark Lenard and Ben Cross!
What I think I love most about Zachary's performance is his ability to show so much/many emotions, without showing any. Like the admission to the Science Academy. His face shows nothing and the middle finger all at the same time.
Oh and if you haven't listen to Zachary read the movie's tie-in book, you are missing out! His voice is amazing, it's another great performance!
I noticed the parallels between Spock's attacking his tormentor when he called his father a traitor and his mother a whore, then later beating up Kirk for doing something similar. Then there was the scene with Kirk as a boy hanging off the side of the cliff and when he's on Nero's ship, clinging to the side of the walkway. Just shows that even when you grow up, some things never change.
you could tell that when Spocks father told him he married his mom because it was the logical thing to do that it had been bothering Sarek for a loonng time!

Now what is so wrong with this comment that it gets two thumbs down? At least I gave the video 5 stars and saved it to my favorites jackasses. :/ I'm a big fan of the original series and the movie so bugger off. Plenty of fans of the series would have caught the green blood thing.

Nope, it's in "Journey to Bable" that Spock has Sarek's blood type with a few human antibodies. There are some things in the movie that it is assumed people will know. Fans will, newcomers won't but it's wasn't important enough to the story to explain.
"Jim, in the event that I do not return please tell Lt. Uhura..." "Spock, It'll work."
The whole scene is in the gag reel, but Chris and Zach are speaking in crazy accents. It's too funny!

This is a great video and oddly enough a lot of people prefer Quinto as Spock and have also decided to stop watching him as Sylar. I think Spock and Uhura make an excellent couple!! Good for them!!

I noticed something strange. At the very beginning, when Spock is talking, there is blood on his lips and it is red. Don't Vulcans have green blood?

Lovely job. I especially like how you kept Sarek's thread going through the story. Most of the other Spock/Uhura vids focus solely on them, but their story happens in the larger context. Nice job intermixing dialog and silent images with a great, laid-back song.

But did you hear his voice breaking as he said it! That wonderful touch that Zachary Quinto made the character all the better. I have to say I missed Mark Lenard, but Ben Cross did a good job of carrying another great character on.

@blkntandogs: OMG yes. When he talks to McCoy on the Bridge his voice conveys stunned hurt & self-disgust w/o going overboard; then in the elevator scene it ALmost breaks. But it doesn't. He maintains control. But watch his breathing as he walks to the Transporter Room. I agree with you about Mark Lenard and Ben Cross!

What I think I love most about Zachary's performance is his ability to show so much/many emotions, without showing any. Like the admission to the Science Academy. His face shows nothing and the middle finger all at the same time.
Oh and if you haven't listen to Zachary read the movie's tie-in book, you are missing out! His voice is amazing, it's another great performance!

I noticed the parallels between Spock's attacking his tormentor when he called his father a traitor and his mother a whore, then later beating up Kirk for doing something similar. Then there was the scene with Kirk as a boy hanging off the side of the cliff and when he's on Nero's ship, clinging to the side of the walkway. Just shows that even when you grow up, some things never change.

I love Uhura and Spock. I think they have fantastic chemistry and the story between the two just about breaks my heart.
But, Kimikuraii, as someone above suggest, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect yours.
I hope you come back and aren't discouraged by the negative response.
