I have such great memories of Whalom Park. Both my brother and I worked here. I still remember the phone number 342-3707. Always had to call if the weather was iffy to see if the park was going to be open that day and I was working.
I loved the pirate stand when I was a kid. I think it burned down. I haven't been to the park since the 70's. Also loved the whip. Nice memories. Back then you were limited as to how many rides you could go on. They gave you a ticket with something like 10 little whales on it. Every time you went on a ride they would use a paper punch to punch the card. The ticket got used pretty quick. My dad was an overnight security guard in th 90's.
what a screw ball thing to say just because it was smaller and privately owned doesnt mean it was ghetto. i never went there being from north carolina and even i can tell it had a charm the no commercialized theme park will ever be able to match

The Pirate's Den was great, it had a fire and never reopened, it was like a mini roller coaster and haunted house.

Were you part of the group that tried to save Whalom Park?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
this park was awful and it was ghetto as hell. far too many safety issues and injuries. thank God it's gone forever.

I remember the roller coaster shaking and practically falling apart.
You're right the park went down hill...fast.
But it could have been a very nice place even today if they just took care of it. so sad
