Thank you for sharing this and helping to remind others that we must never forget the sacrifices and hardships endured by our POWs and their families. Some still endure those hardships today, 40 years later. We remember those and I promise as long as I have breath in my body, I will work to help bring them home to the country they defended with honor.
I was TDY around clark AB in Phillipines in the 80's and they had a fantastic photo spread at the MAC terminal of the initial landing and heros welcome for these guys. I wonder what happened to all that stuff after the volcano? It should be in a museum.
I was 14 and witnessed the POWs come home at Hickam. It was the proudest moment of my life. They rolled out red carpets and allowed each man to speak for as long as he wanted. Some talked, and some just kissed the soil they stood upon.
