impreza was a production model of a rally racing car, it was never meant to be a family car and shouldn't attempt to be one now. this impreza has completely done away with rally racing spirit of early impreza and that's big shame. it will definitely loose lot of business from younger buyers who's not starting a family yet.
it's a shame because i was honestly looking forward to this new impreza but hatchback looks like a wagon with longer wheel base loosing the compactness and nimble appearance of old impreza. again this car will only be popular in snowy region and fail to win the hearts in rest of the country.
@jusbus777 i have an 08 impreza 2.5i with a five speed and can easily achieve close to the 27 city 33 highway that subaru is saying. But, after doing more research subaru also claims that the 2012 is actually an upgrade because its a dohc 2.0 liter instead of a soch and it is the lightest and fastest base impreza made so we will see once its avalible. but i still do not like the trending toward economy that most companies are doing. i mean it also has a none visible exhuast thats really dumb.
I don't think subaru understands progress: smaller engine, worse looks, automatic to CVT. My 1999 subaru is better than a car that is 10+ years newer, that ain't right.
@rallistEVO if the do keep going down hill people dont think so they have been gaining sales. had a record year in 2010 and are on target for a 2011 sales record.
@druddock I know what Impreza made. I'm talking about what Impreza is gonna make. I suspect the 150 bhp 2.0L engine he's talking about is the one we already have here in Europe, which has 145lb/ft at 3200 rpm. And with 4WD goes from 0 to 60 in just under 12 seconds. Now imagine putting your foot down in 6th gear at, say, 50 mph. That's why it's got 5 gears. Come on it ain't STI but the Impreza has to be a little faster than a Corolla I guess
@StingRayINC Legendary Impreza? Fanboy much? The civic has lead the Impreza on interior styling, engine power, refinement, oh and sales too :) for years.
@nemesis3001 but so has the corolla and even the lowly kia rio sells more than an impreza. subaru is not realy a mainstream car manufacturer. there were more toyots camrys sold in the U.S. in 2010 than all subaru combined
The hatchback kinda looks like a Caliber from the side. The sedan looks like the 2012 Civic but cheaper :\ ....Dislike. I want the 2004-2007 design ideas back!
I've got nothing against a five speed. Every stick shift I've ever owned has been/is a five speed. But the new cheaper-than-a-motorcycle Hyundai (bless their heart) Accent has a six speed auto or stick. Therefore by the power of logic I forbid any auto journo to say that it's a five speed to keep costs down.
@ellomirza The boxer NA engine is quite low on torque and has the power higher in the rev range than normal engines. So a 6 speed 'box would kill in-gear acceleration in higher gears. With a 5 speed trans the ratios are shorter and the problem is partially solved. That's why.
I wish Subaru would come out with a Stunner. Is it not in the cards? An incredible new Baja, or something simply eye catching - ie sport like???? Sure the new Outback is a millions leaps forward, and the Tribeca is okay at best until they unveil the price. Not to mention at a distance some of the new badging resembles ford or Chrysler.....t is not distinct at all......? Unfortunately If I am going to drive a Subaru, I want people to go - "Damn - Look at his Subaru!" But that wont ever happen!
@dacarfreak2000 Hmmmm, I wonder who's been doing really well in Group N, oh wait that's right!
Subaru's been dominating the Group N category. Well, more like they've been doing better since the switch to the hatch. As for Mitsubishi, RALLIART isn't even really active anymore.
@dacarfreak2000 What was wrong with the Evo 10? It was more refined, more powerful and has made more sales than any of the previous generations. Thats a win in my book.
@dacarfreak2000 only to say that the evo is no longer made and that mitsubishi will sooner or later have to leave america because they are to put it bluntly failing miserably.
@toyota420xp Mitsubishi unfortunately forgot what made its cars great. American models out of Normal, IL were horrible after the DSM era. They once made cars that were fun to drive and had superior handling. They screwed up after killing its best models like Montero and Galant. The future of Lancer apparently is uncertain. Their supposedly "green" approach with i-miev isn't gonna save them.
(I know this is a subaru video and I'm commenting about mitsubishi)
@dacarfreak2000 not only that, they started going down the toilet in 04 with the "new" galant and in 06 with the eclipse, pos cars that just got pos not to mention uglier to look at

why why would you downgrade to a 2.0 liter engine with less power they better add power to the wrx and sti
bradttu15 9 months ago 3
@bradttu15 Most likely for fuel economy seeing that its an AWD kinda hard to get the 30+mpg which most of it competitors have?
jusbus777 9 months ago
Not aggressive enough. And why are the side mirrors so low and attached to the door? Hopefully the WRX looks better.
MrMockeryMcFly 10 months ago
its looks remind me of somewhere between a smaller version of a 2008 and a current legacy sedan
toyota420xp 10 months ago
@druddock the low center of gravity design of the boxer engines lead to better handling over competition
toyota420xp 10 months ago
My opinion
1992 - 2005 Impreza looked Awesome
2006 - 2007 Impreza looked ok
2008 -2011 Impreza looked terrible
2012 Impreza has the ugliest most plain and dull look
