  • Thanks for posting. This is great to see, I grew up in Northampton but now I live in New Zealand. Brings back so many memories. Thanks.

  • @Meoroth12 Lucky you. I'm envious. I toyed with the idea of NZ myself, but I am too old and not skilled enough for their immigration service. I guess they thought I'd only have around 10 useful years left and then I'd want to be drawing my pension! :-D

  • i ride my off rode bike round there!!!!! red hills hunsberry park o____0

  • In the last few years police have found an increase in street prostitution truck drivers literately abandoning there trucks and diving into bushes

  • wft, the calsberg roundabout before traffice lights, now that take me back :)

  • Dear Rob,

You talk of 'Settlement'. Roman, Gaelic, Norse, English or what?

  • @TheLeeds01 The earliest Iron Age settlements date back to around 800BC, but hill forts such as the one at Hunsbury Hill in Northampton probably sprung up around 550BC, and continued up until colonisation by the Romans around 44BC.

  • hey thank you so much for the video, it was very interesting! i was just looking for any video to learn more about northampton and then i found this. great!

  • @yabba234 Thank you for watching, and commenting, of course, Tobias. Northampton town centre hasn't changed too much in the last three years, although the main shopping area has plans to expand, and as well as hundreds of new homes on the south side of town, there is also a new marina complex being built on the river. I really need to make a new video! :-)

  • My home town is northampton! x Good times! I've moved now though..... you should go visit it now! i went 2 see my dad! bout a week ago!

  • @KevserSims2Love I hope you had a good time, Kevser! :-)

  • Does anybody know or know of anyone named Tadman? I'll much appreciate it if I can be put in touch!

Used to live in Milton Malzor, nr. Northampton, and attended the Northampton College of Technology then, but moved on to the University of Leeds, West Yorks.

  • @TheLeeds01 I know a guy who has lived in Milton Malsor for 50 years, and he knows just about everyone, but hadn't heard of your 'Tadman'. Does he have a proper name?

  • @RobNorthampton In case you havn't received my reply through Hong.Hans@yahoo.com, I gave the name of Rev. Robert Tadman, the Rector of Milton. The family occupied the Rectory, Milton Malzor, round about 1948-1958. Janet Tadman, the youngest of the family, was last heard of living in Northampton proper. Thanks so much.

  • @TheLeeds01 I'm sorry I didn't receive your mail. I couldn't even find it in my spam folder. Nevertheless, thank you for elucidating :-)

  • Went to uni in Northampton had a brilliant time. Great pubs and some exellent countryside.

  • @1977Futre I'm pleased you enjoyed your student days here, and thank you for commenting. I don't hold Northampton on a pedestal or anything, but I don't think it's any better or worse than anywhere else, and we all have to live somewhere :-)

  • northampton i live here and i love it, but i got to be honest, it can be such a shit hole sometimes

  • OII!!! Northampton's a brilliant town, i live here and i love it :) Especially since there's loads of nightclubs and bars ;D. He's just pointing out the shit places :(

  • @mariejs123 My uncle owns Crush and some other place and they are near goldstreet! and I love aroma in the vue cinema!

  • i live in eastfield

  • @rebeccascoolvids Unlucky.

  • Fkin shithole!

    Glad i left

  • Lol i live here.

  • @BornThisWayLG Lol so do I! Somebody has to! :-D

  • wow Abbey street looks so much better and less chav occupated in this video than it does now.

  • @HarryTheRockerManiac It certainly doesn't seem to ever improve! :-D

  • and over there by those tree is red hills

  • I've lived in different parts of Northampton for the last 17 years and I can honestly say nowhere is any good when you're an adult. When you're a kid, anywhere is amazing but I've passed that age of finding things wonderous.

  • @GingeDSI I agree. I wasn't born here. I moved here aged 23. The town is not great, but neither is it terrible. We all have to live somewhere, and I think Northampton's as good as anywhere. :)

  • lol you made it look ace but sorry mate its shit now and whenever i go to the grovesnor <---prob spelt wrong its normally packed :( i dont mind but theres always weirdos that walk slowwwwwwwww or theres 20000 wanna be gangstas with jeans that are two sizes too big for them, great video nice to take time and do something like that :)

  • @rezzadee Thanks for watching, and to be honest, I agree. I posted this vid three years ago, and I think I've maybe only been to the town centre about twice since then. It's not great. :-)

  • i live in northampton and i dont like the town centre tbh

  • It's weird to think that i always go there shopping and go out round there on nights out and didn't really know much about the history of the place!

  • Best accent in England. Well done matey.

  • Forget Leicester, and Nottingham, Northampton is the capital of The East Midlands!!

  • how can anyone like our town is just a dump its dreadful compared to ther towns and the council is full of twats Northampton has went down hill.

  • I was there in '06. Is the Pennywhistle pub still around?

  • I haven't been to that side of town for a long time, but it's still there as far as I know :-)

  • yh it is m8

  • Hey Rob, the statue outside of the Grosvener Centre, the cobblers statue, is it still there? I think it's gone hasn't it?

  • Hmm you've got me there. I haven't been to the town centre in months and months, so you could be right. Sorry I'm not much help :-)

  • it is indeed - i had a look at it a month ago

  • how sad, a statue about Northamptons history taken away :-(

  • but it hasn't been taken away - it's still there...

  • @tonightwefly : The huge statue/bench thing with the two children standing on top of the shoe making tool? That would survive a bomb.

  • @tonightwefly no it's still there

  • Pity its so blurred, would be interesting if it concentrated on more of the history first, then another video on the periods of change

  • thank you so much, its wonderful to see Nothampton again, I lived there years ago and it was the best time of my life and I have fond memories

do you know the foundry pub, is it still there? that was my local pub

  • Hey Great Tour Mr. indeed!! I do really hope to meet in person Northampton. Seems to be a quite city to live in. But i'll still improving my english so that i can understand everybody as well LOL.

    Send greetings from Mexico City.

    Juan Carlos.

  • Thank you Juan Carlos. Northampton was a market town of around 75000 pop. about 50 years ago. It has grown in size to accomodate the overspill from London, pushing the population up to around 200,000, but still has a market town atmosphere. If you manage to visit, I hope you enjoy yourself :-)

  • @funkstage dont come here, it's an awful town D8 it isn't quiet at all. Lestershire is better :)

  • @Dharkhaze17 I thought it was quite as I've been told. Haven't heard about that town before.

  • I enjoyed watching this :-)

  • Thanks very much! The town and its population keeps evolving, but despite the negative comments, it's no better or worse than any other town. And we're still here! :-)

  • lol i live in the eastern district.

  • moved away from Northampton 8 months ago, moved to bournemouth with ym parents, never looked back, northampton town is a shit hole

  • if u go to northampton dont go to the eastern district. plus its now full of migrants

  • I was in northampton shopping recently, walking down the street when there was an announcment on a tannoy that someone should get off their bycicle. jesus christ it' like something out of 1984. fuck that place

  • I was lucky to move from Northampton to Bournemouth in April after 30 odd years and tis loving life

  • Northampton's a shithole, and if you live there you are a massive cunt!

  • i take it your stresssed....whats up ..bad memories...

  • i live here and your right it is a shit hole but dont make me a massive cunt does it. what i call a massive cunt is your girlfreinds hole, you beed there so you would know like ever other guy would :) C**T

  • hi mate wht year was the filmed ?

  • Hi Martyn. The vid was filmed end of summer 2007, with Grosvenor and market footage from around 2005 :-)

  • northampton is shit. I've lived here 25 years and live in one of the only nice areas. People there have no ambition. I actually feel sorry for the immigrants being housed in our numerous rough estates.

  • Ye i hate Northampton, I wanna move to Sweden or somewhere in Europe... Infact i hate England, I like British people but i just hate living here...

  • im from sweden ..its no better here...we been plagued with nazis....

  • Comment removed

  • =O

    I go 2 Northamptin xD

    Moulton ?

    evah heard of it ?

  • nive vid. Curious as to when you filmed the trip into town as I've never seen so little traffic pl;us you didn't get held up a st peter's way r/bout for the required 10 minutes!!

Andy, ex postie and norfamponner for 44 years

  • Hi Andy. Little secret. It's the power of editing. The drive into town was 9am on a Sunday morning. The rest was on a weekday. ;-)

  • Ta Rob. I was aware of the editing (nicely done btw). But was REALLY surprised at the lack of traffic. I've even been held up in a traffic jam on st peters way a 4am and nearly been late for work on more than one occasion recently!!

  • i hear the postmen of northampton are very miserable ;)

  • You hear right!

  • What..... No Eastfield in there???!!

  • i didnt really like northampton there was too much crime and the police did nothing about it. But what i do like is the nice forests and green space outside the town.

  • great vid. I've been to a lot of those places. Born in Northampton and Saints till I die

  • Thanks AJ!

  • Crazy ass Brits drive on the wrong side of the road.

  • The right side of the road is historically the wrong side of the road when you are horse riding, and need your right arm for fending off enemies with your sword.

That's a point - why do Americans go horseBACK riding? Where else would you sit? :-D

  • aaah you almost drove to my house : ((

  • do a vid showin upton cuz itz got bigger now!

  • I also got asked to do Kingsthorpe. I will have to do an add-on at some point. Maybe when the weather improves, eh?! :-)

  • I live in a village just 15 20 mins away called thornby im one of the kids from thornby hall its a kids home :)

  • i knew you could turn right into gold street before the road works.

you can't no more :( i keep forgetting and have to go the long way round

  • You look familiar Rob - are you a postie?

  • Rumbled! Yeah, you got me. :-)

  • In that case, see you when you deliver my letters :-D

  • Bloody good vid, I might add though, you should have carried straight on going on to the Harborough road, than turn into Gold street. I would love someone to make a vid this well made in kingsthorpe.

    5/5 (Y)

  • Thanks very much! I think I will have to do a new vid showing a lot of the parts I missed. Thanks for watching!

    Rob :-)

  • the fact uv just sed that shows how much better the uk northampton is.

  • Nice video mate. Come join us on FACEBOOK search group NORTHAMPTON TOWN!

  • i live their too

  • Same here.....NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

  • I live there!!

  • Hello!

I´m from Germany but I love your town so much.

Why don´t you show Abbington Park, Derngate, Trinity Church. The most lovely pubs of Northampton.

I have been five times in Northampton.

    Always with the OxCo. :-)

  • I live in Northampton.

and i went hunsbury on a school trip last year to help with my history coursework.

    Woop woop - Northampton town!

I sang and danced at the guildhall.

  • Thanks for dropping by, Louise! Was anyone else singing and dancing at the Guildhall, or were you just in a good mood that day?

    ;-)

  • It's always interesting to see the towns where other YouTubers live...

  • Aye, we're a strange and diverse bunch, that's for sure! :-)

  • LOL. I'll get some hometown footage this summer.

I plan to visit Tracy, Quebec for the first time in eighteen years, this time with a video camera

    ;)

  • Dude i lyk live right near here and all u ppl that say northampton it shit then FUCK u its a good little twn that is great 4 sum shopping days out good vid m8 i lyked it u should have added the cinema tho

  • yay for my hometown lol

  • COUNCLI SUX

  • Northampton truly sucks ass. I should know I've lived here 33 years. Half the shops in town are either shit or shut, you cant walk from one end of Abington St to the Market without being harrased by homeless jimmies. NCC turned this town into the present shithole it currently is, I wouldn't bother visiting here. Save your money and shop elsewhere. NCC are extortionate bigots who make up new charges for people to boost there own, over inflated wage packets. They should all be shot.

  • Decent vid by the way mate. Wasn't having a pop at you, just disgusted my home town has become as it is today.

  • No problem. I understand your angst! :-)

  • Nice video. Northampton was my home town for some 40 years, and I never got to explore Hunsbury Hill - at least not during the excavation period. I live in Sevilla now, and still have to wonder how you managed to find a parking space in the town centre. Good video, brought back some memories. Thanks

  • Thanks for watching! Ok, secret's out. I drove into town on a Sunday. The other footage was on a weekday! :-)

At least you won't miss the English weather, and for that, I'm envious of you :-)

  • rob u r so good - i bet ur a really interesting guy!! long live rob!!!

  • LOL Thanks for the glowing comment! Made me laugh! :-D

  • Yay for the Pilgrim Fathers.

  • u dumme fuck we on u ha ha ha

  • Mmhm, you own us. Despite our town being the first one. ;)

Great to see footage from my home town, it looks fantastic and I miss it loads!

  • Man, your northampton was named AFTER US.

  • u do no the northampton in the us was named after the uk northampton. so u think u own us because...... ??

    northampton rocks :)

  • were the best ever! were the most brutalist, vicious, and most ruthless there ever been! no one can stop us, are style is impetuous, are defense is impregnable, and were ferocious we da best northampton there is and ever was!!!!! USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • forget northampton uk! the usa all day, every day!!!!! were the most brutalist, vicious, and most ruthless there ever been! no one can stop us, are style is impetuous, are defense is impregnable, and were ferocious!

  • IQ of a donut, the word is far mightier than the sword. Learn our language - English and how to spell first before you slate any town in our country you ignorant numnuts. Why don't you learn to see the world for it's possitive points you stereotypical yank. Invasion, bombardment and kill the only skills you learn in school over there?

  • An answer rimmed with equal amounts of Ignorance. true though.

  • dude you have one fast car.

huns to town centre in under a min!

    phwoor!

    nice vid bdw

  • I wish I could drive that fast! With so many roads in Northampton being reduced down to 20mph, it'll soon be quicker to get out and walk! Thanks for watching, Kieran! :-)

  • nice vid i live in northampton (kingsthorpe)

  • Thanks for dropping by, Mr Cocaine! :-)

  • ur both idiots

  • So?

  • fenty62.

  • I didnt mean you Rob, I meant the idiot that made the stupid comment about you dyeing your hair. :D!

  • I realise that now Al :-) Don't worry. I should have flipped the comments round for them to make sense. Obviously fenty62 is a bored individual who gets kicks out of trying to annoy people. How sad. :-D

  • He's blocked now anyway :-)

  • Rob I dont know if I could get used to driving on the OTHER side of the road. LOL!

  • Nice town, btw.

  • It's ok in the daylight, but too many no-go areas at night-time when the alcohol is flowing. Thanks for watching, Al! :-)

  • I have to drive on the other side of the road to get home again! ;-)

  • ooooo i know those places :D

  • Very good vid m8 :-)

  • Thanks Dave :-)

  • good vid =)

  • Thanks Leanne! :-)

  • What is it called when you fasten the speed of the film when you are driving?

Apart from that, This is well good!! Such fantastic work Rob! You deserve a medal!

  • Thanks for the glowing praise Alex! :)

I just increased the speed of the film in the editing process so it didn't drag on too long :-) It's an option in the Video Effects part of Pinnacle.

  • Thank you for your considered opinions. Maybe you could make a video of your town's history and show me how it should be done.

I have to go shopping to buy some cornflour to rub in my hair, because apparently, no-one over 50 should still be allowed to show a naturally dark colour. Tsk.

  • You're a noob.

  • A noob as in a 'newbie', or as in the urban dictionary definition, which states " n00bs know little and have no will to learn any more. They expect people to do the work for them and then expect to get praised about it, and make up a unique species of their own."

    Hmm. Confused...:)

  • I thought it meant idiot. OOPS. Maybe I am the idiot. LOL!!

  • nice :)... Born and bread in northampton. great video :)

  • Thanks for watching, Chris :-)

  • I think that should be "bred" in Northampton!!

  • yeah well i only got a C in gcse english so blame that...

  • Lovely - I was born in Northampton - now live in Lincoln, Illinois, USA - in the middle between Chicago and St, Louis. My Dad - George Cotton had the Welcome Inn and the King David and several other pubs.

Great to see Northampton again - Sue Cotton

  • Hi Sue. Thanks for watching. I used to have the occasional pint in The Welcome, going back about 25 years though :-) There used to be a Motown night on a Sunday, I think, so it was always a good atmosphere.

Have a Happy New Year! Rob :-)

  • nice video, lived there for 16 years,

1975-1991 and went to school there. remember abington street being pedestrianised in 1985

  • Thanks Steve. I've been here about 25 years, but can barely remember traffic in Abington Street, although I know there must have been. :-)

  • Nice video,

I was born in northampton and currently go school there now, it is a town with ALOT of history but due to Cromwell we have a big Debt problem which lowers our towns total appeal.

  • It was to do with the war of the roses, we sided with him and his enemy and made shoes for both and he said we would be capital if he won the war, when he found out we made shoes for the enemy too, he destroyed our castle and set a royal order saying we could never be a City or the Capitol, which I believe stil stands today unfortunatly! :(

  • HI JUST KOOL ROB U HAVE MSN MATE I LIKE U

  • Loved the vid, Im from northampton but I moved to australia just over a year ago, I get really homesick so was nice to watch, thanks, good to see nothings changed :)

  • Aw bless ya. No, not much changes. They are supposed to have been modernising the town centre for as long as I can remember, but it's still all building societies, phone shops and pound shops. :-)

I hope things are going well for you in Oz.

It's freezing fog in Northampton this morning, so at least you won't miss the weather! :-) Rob

  • It may be heavy-going, but I've just added a series of historical vids on Northampton, in case you wanna see more of the old place :-)

Number 1 link is under this vid. Rob

  • Like the vid i walk through hunsbury hill park every day and i thought that the old moat that you filmed was just a ditch and had no idea that there used to be a fort on the hill that must be why there is a sign saying no metal detectors near the enterance in case you find some treasure or something lol.

  • I guess that's true :-)

The Northampton Museum has a whole bunch of Iron Age stuff that they have taken from that very mound. There's bowls, pots, buckles, jewellery and tools that were all used once when the first settlers lived there. Thanks for watching, by the way! Rob

    :-)

  • That is a good forest for motocross! lol! Thanks for sharing! Hug!

  • Unfortunately, it does get used for that too occasionally, but the illegal kind - kids on stolen bikes usually. But it makes the police happy. It means they can play with their helicopter again. :-)

  • Yeah, that sucks then! Lol, i guess police it's the same thing all around the world!

  • wow it's nice! i can't get over how GREEN everything is! currently the lawn in our back garden has experienced a period of lushness... but that's been quite recent. im so used to brown grass!

  • I never notice it unless I go abroad to somewhere hot on holiday. Then on my return, it certainly seems to have more of a green lushness. Mind you, the downside to that is that we have more rain I guess. There's always a trade-off :-)

  • we need rain! we're in serious drought! highest water restrictions we've had in my (short) living memory. lol iv heard that uv had a period of drought over there? we'd love to have that drought lol...well we'd prefer it anyway. and south australia's the worst off becos the river which provides a huge majority of our water supply passes through the 2 states of NSW and victoria first... and they hog a lot of it!

  • Damn those Victorian and New South Welsh? Waterhogs! Leave some for Saz! :-)

I don't think we've had any drought this year. In fact, it rained almost every day through June and into July. It's been lovely and sunny for weeks, but today we have had tornados! It's gone now though and is just windy.

  • Sorry that turned into a bit of a weather forecast. Hope you're okay! :-) Rob x
