  • Does the software auto update?

  • Can I find out what USB mini stick you used or at least what chip its based on and maybe other specs. I want a decent one for my laptop and would like to know it works that well on pandora to. I believe that one is wifi N right?

  • Will it support google voice?

  • coole mugge ;-)

  • Rather wait till's finish.....seems to be a nice device thought....

  • gimme it!

    ...pls?

  • The internal wifi bug is solved meanwhile.

Nevertheless good to know that a USB wifi dongle worked well too, if once needed, for whatever reason (enhancement,...)

  • Oh yeah, does Youtube work on the Pandora yet?

  • Man this is tight i would rather buy this than a regular laptop but i have a question would it be able to run psx games and psp iso games

  • @jackskellingtonjr - Yes, it can emulate PSX games. PSP games, no.

  • @cyborgtroy

    Maybe in the future though...

Gosh, I HAVE to get this, it's just like a PC. I better start saving up. 10 hours of battery, WOW!

  • @TrolloftheTube - I wouldn't count on future PSP emulation. Emulators are tedious and difficult to develop, and the Pandora might not have the power to emulate the PSP at all.

The native Pandora games should be fun, though.

  • @cyborgtroy

Yeah, native Pandora games and the full OS are the reasons I want this. But I heard somewhere that your device needs to be twice as powerful as the one you want to emulate. And the Pandora is more than twice as powerful as the PSP.

Oh well, I already have a psp anyway...

  • @TrolloftheTube - Emulation is very complex business, there are no valid rules of thumb like "2x as powerful" or "3x as powerful".

There isn't even an agreed way to measure the computing power of an entire system unless you have a very specific task, like adding two 32-bit integers.

  • @cyborgtroy

Woah, you sure do know your stuff. I've also heard "8x as powerful" too, I guess I better read up a bit on emulation so that I don't make a complete fool of myself...again.

  • You taunt me as show off a device that isn't finished please I want one so bad.

  • Seeing as you are using wifi sticks what about 3G sticks?

Plus any chance of a look at the repository/app store? ;)

  • what about opera mobile? would work better with touch screens :)

  • I notice the battery starts at 96% and ends up at 91% by the end of the 8 minute video. I understand the Pandora should be good for 8+ hours of heavy use, but this would only be equivalent to about 2.5 hours of use. Is this due to the WiFi, is it common energy expenditure, or is it a misconfiguration?

  • @ChillHeartsYou remeber he did edit the video if you look at the time on the Pandora he starts at 14:41and ends at 15:00 (19 mins)

  • @offgoingon Good call. I missed that.

  • tollll!

  • Anyway don't forget about INTERNAL WIFI...have to be fixed now or later

  • why are you even using a tiny wifi stick? doesn't it have internal wifi already?

  • @GogetaSSJ4BR, the internal wifi has some kind of fault that they're working out, but to prevent shipping from being delayed even further, they're going to provide the first people with these mini usb sticks and an option to have internal wifi fixed later (unless of course, they find out what's wrong before the first ones are shipped).

  • @geekymarianne now that's something only people spending time on their forums know about. what a nice way to explain it to everyone else: with a video ¬¬

In my opinion, this IS a subject of delay. no one wants their usb port used by a wifi stick, having to switch everytime you want something else and not being able to use the usb port while surfing. it's ridiculous.

  • @GogetaSSJ4BR, actually I get my news not from reading the forums, but from pandorapress (dot net).

  • @geekymarianne if it's a software issue, fixing this should be top priority. if it's a hardware issue, they better speak it out as soon as possible.

I certainly don't want to receive a faulty unit and have to ship it back later. if I know a hardware fix will do just fine, I rather wait for it. matter of fact, it's better for everyone to wait for it, after >1y of delay!

  • @GogetaSSJ4BR, they're still investigating whether the problem is software or hardware, and as far as I know, *if* it turns out to be a hardware fault they will be giving people the option of getting it shipped earlier with the mini USB stick, or waiting for the hardware to be fixed, so it's really up to you which option you want to take :) I think they plan on emailing customers to ask which they'd prefer after they've investigated the fault more thoroughly.

  • @GogetaSSJ4BR, of course now all this worry doesn't even matter anymore :) they've found the problem, it was one resistor being the wrong value, and the modification to fix it is apparently really easy, so it seems all Pandoras will be shipped with fully working wifi! Yay!

  • Very nice, I started to save up for the next batch of pandoras after release :-)

  • really nice done

  • ich glaub auch die leute die die Wifi stick methode gewält haben werden mit dem kleinem Ding glücklich^^

  • ich glaub auch die leute die die Wifi stick methode gewält haben werden mit dem kleinem Ding glücklich^^

  • The browser looks really good. Love how small the wifi sticks are and its great that its supported out of the box. A perfect solution until we get internal wifi fixed. Cheers for the video ED.

  • @Cellsplitter, no youtube vids yet. The Pandora doesnt support flash yet (they dont have access to the code, so they cant port it).

  • @Mithrildor1 Can't it still download youtube vids and play them with VLC or mplayer? If it has the power to run flash player, it should be able to soft-decode at least 480p youtube.

  • @IEATn00bZORZ

it should be able to work via GNASH player as the official flash player to my knowledge doesn't have binaries for arm processors.
