I saw this video back after we got done with last winter right after buying the 2008 Mazda6 i Sport Value Edition and was thinking that this being the MPS the handling may be different. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the Mazda6i handles very well in snow - in fact w/ TCS it can tackle almost anything up to 5" deep, but like any vehicle as soon as the snow is to the car's belly your gonna have problems unless you have a huge wheel height.
I'm lucky too to own one of these in black. I love the car. I've had a ton of fun in the snowy roads around town, just slightly kicking out the rear a bit. I have only gone up to 145mph in mine. Still, when you can beat some stage 1 Mustangs and Camaro's, people are shocked. I've never had a bad comment about the SPEED 6, aside from the reliability. But hey, it is a Mazda after all.
I have a lightly modded V6 6,every now and then I have pangs of regret that I didn't get a speed 6. But I am getting a speed 3 in a few years so all will be well in the end.

thats crazy fast, but have you ever actually topped it out?? I have an 04 Mazda 6 (v6) and i topped it out at around 190KM/h. that's under 120mph, and that's fast enough for me.
I can do 155mph in it but im replacing it soon, technology moves fast in the motor industry and a Golf/Rabbit GTi can do me now. It goes just as fast even with front wheel drive.
@niposs well in a smart it could be hard? i drove a lot of cars from hundays to BMW's and all of them where easy to drift in snow, FWD RWD AWD all easy Car, Vans, Pick-Up truck's. all of the cars i tried to drift in the winter where just very easy to drift. Maby i'm lucky but i dought it's luck. 02 Mazda protege5 08 mazdaspeed 3, 88 BMW 730I, 02 BMW 320I, 99-08 Chevy silverado 2500, 99 F250,06-08 chevrolet cobalt, hyundai accent, 99 subaru legacy,. i'll stop there beacause i'll run out of place.

6 MPS's are able to put out 100:0 - 50:50 ratios and EVO's have completely same ratios. 6 MPS feels more like a RWD car under slippery conditions. Have owned one for two months and it really is a great car!
Its not offered on all Mazda 6's due to the differences in the chassis. The MPS sedan is 50% more rigid than the standard 6 sedan. And a hell of a lot of engineering would be required on the hatch.
yes it is AWD, not 4WD. The problem is that it has FW bias. IE, it drives like a fwd car until traction becomes a problem then power is transferred to a max of 50% to the back wheels. What ej254 is saying is that it'd be better if it was a rwd biased car with awd.
Good video! Three complaints about that design. 1)It needs a more sporting torque split, like 50/50 to 40/60 front/rear to truly appeal to enthusiasts. 2) AWD should be offered on lower priced models. 3)AWD should be offered on every Mazda 6 bodyshell.
If it's just a regular 6 and not the Speed6 it is pretty damn close to impossible, it doesn't have the RWs to push it and so once you give it gas the tires will break loose and you'll just start sliding. I speak from experience.
I love the Mazda 6 MPS (i'm from Europe) but i'm owning a '98 Impreza Turbo right now.
I doubting very much if i want a 2003 Impreza WRX or 2003 Mazda 6 MPS for next car...
Anyone suggestions?
The Impreza WRX is faster, more agressive and uses less fuel.
But the Mazda has more classy looks, newer technology and great interior...

This looks so fun. I do it on my spare time with my mazda3 in a snowy, icy parking lot, but its not the same than a snow track like this .

It's a great car to drive and I like it a lot that's why I watched this video.
But I rest my case, the speed6 dif SUCKS big time, your driving is horrid and the music stinks.

Get a proper car, not some fake 4WD with a horrid dif, a Sub STI or Mitsu EVO will do.

I´ve driven my Mazda 6 mps on snow conditions and it runs well. It would probably be better if it was a 4WD but i´m happy with the response.
