roy and dale were my favorites of all time growing up. i loved them and nellybell! the kids of today have no idea what they missed. we were very fortunate to have been little kids in the 50 during the golden age of tv.
This is yet another classic, classic episode of What's My Line? I just have one question. What was the question that Dorothy asked after she asked, "Is one of you an actress?" It sounded to me like Dorothy said "Not Hugh?" which makes no sense. Can someone help me out here?
@sbutler0727 Since Roy answered Dorothy's query about one of the two being an actress in the affirmative, Dorothy then remarked, "Not YOU," since she was hearing a male voice answer the question.
They had a great show --- they were Christians & adopted children, too. That was when TV was fun to watch - not all sexual - violence & perverted stuff like today.
The panelists often connect the mystery guest with some current show going on in town (NY). And considering they're amongst the gadflies and columnists of their day, it's no wonder. But it's always a bit of a spoiler too.
I was in the mood to see some footage of my first hero (after my dad) tonight... what an absolute treat to see him (and Dale!) holding his own on what may be the classiest and most urbane game show in the history of television.
Brilliant clip. I grew up with Roy and Dale on saturday morning tv in the 50's. I also watched "What's My Line" then, but so much more appreciate it seeing these clips in adulthood. John Daly was such a good, affable host. I'm amazed with how wise, well-informed and analytical the panelists were. Wish I could get the Game Show Network! :-)
Hard to believe that Roy was really Len Slye from outside Cincinnati! I was never into Westerns & never saw a Roy Rogers/Dale Evans movie or TV show but after reading their autobiography "Happy Trails," I have the utmost respect for them. They deserved the hero worship the kids heaped upon them. What wonderful role models! RIP Leonard and Frances!
And I've never had the chance to know about them until now when I saw this segment...and now that I've read your comment about their autobiography, I want to know more about them.
Both multitalented people--people have forgotten that Dale was a best selling author--devoted to each other, devoted to their children, generous with their time and talents to good causes, quality to the max.
Yes I agree. I was their neighbor Roy and Dale and family were kind, down to earth wonderful people. What a joy to see this clip, they are truly missed by us all, and forever in our hearts : )
what a wonderful part of this great show -- i am watching just about each one and almost in tears because there just aren't people of this caliber anymore --
they were a wonderful couple who overcame some of life's darkest moments together through their love for one another and through, of course, their unwavering faith. thanks for the post!
I cried when I saw the news that Dale had died, and I telephoned my mama, and cried again.
How I loved these two. How I will always love them.

Very nice couple, no wonder they were beloved. Unusual that Roy signed in for both of them, rather old school, chivalrous.

What a classy show biz couple, with old-fashioned manners, which the entire panel of this show also had! I love What's My Line from this era..

To those commenting who enjoy Dale and Roy ... might consider reading Angel Unaware written by Dale Evans.
