  • Used to love this song while watching "Sing Hoot & Howl"! What a coincidence!

  • I like how they used "thoughtless" because starfish have no brains

  • Multiple choice/guess sunlit.

  • I don't like being thoughtless one bit.

  • Sunlit, lovely, swimming free...

  • Wow!!! I got tears and chills listening to this! This is beyond beautiful!

  • THE WORDS SHE SINGS ARE THOUGHTLESS, LOVELY, SWIM'IN FREE.

  • The epitome of innocence...

  • GRACIAS POR SUBIR ESTE VIDEO, ESTA YA LA HABIA OIDO EN ESPAÑOL, TENIA GRABADA LA CUARTA TEMPORADA, LA DE 1995, PERO LA BORRE SIN QUERER, ¿ALGUIEN SABE DONDE SE PUEDE CONSEGUIR?

  • This brought tears to my eyes! Good memories!

  • Can someone please explain how I listen to the hardest gangster rap ever made, and the craziest proto-punk, and all kinds of crazy stuff...and I am here now!? Pretty song.

  • I almost fell out of my chair laughing at this. I used to love this song so much :D

  • Goodness, what a heartstopper. :..)

  • What a beautiful song and a beautiful job singing it. I miss my youth. :'(

  • I see alot of Starfish when I go Crabbing at Hampton Beach

  • it was weird and sad at the same time

  • @celloplaya08 strange it uses to scare me a bit too because the melody and music is kinda haunting but it's still sweet and memorable.

  • I remember this used to scare me for some reason

  • This song still relaxes me. Whoever is reading my comment, Try this experiment at home. It IS recommended by me, jackwolf131: If you can't go to sleep some night, get yourself into a comfortable position and sing this song softly in bed. It sure puts me to sleep every time. I even have really good dreams about the earth being more pleasant and friendly. Try it... I ALWAYS sing this song at night (365 times a year), and it feels so good

  • Thanks for posting this. I also was touched by this music and that girls voice when I was younger.

  • Also tastes great...a fine delicacy...in japan.

  • I remember this being longer, but then again, 30 minutes to a child seemed like a lifetime.

  • This is a true story:... When I was a wee little kid, I used to watch Sesame Street alot more than I do now. When I was very little, when it was night time i was 4-7 years old or around that age, I used to climb in bed and the lights were out, and when it was full moon, My bedroom was so pretty and the moon shine on my bed on me. When I woke up a little bit, just about ready to fall back asleep, I used to sing this song very quietly exactly the same tone of this girl... singing this song

  • @jackwolf131 Cool story.

  • I've fallen in love with this song when I was a kid.

    Thanks for posting this..

  • Honest to God I immediately start bawling my guts out when I listen to this song. I don't know what makes me cry harder; the child's voice or the music. And I honestly don't know whether this song touches me or hurts me. Nevertheless, Joe Raposo was the perfect songwriter for Sesame Street and to me this song is no exception.

  • @briansky10

I love this song too! It's a tearjerker! If you really want another classic, search for the Inchworm song from about the 1971 season. The gentleness of that song is pure gold!

  • This is a great video to do transcendental meditation to. I have always loved starfish, jellyfish and cephalopods. Scientific purists say that you must say "sea stars" and "sea jellies" because starfish and jellyfish are not technically fish, but who cares? I'm much more into the occult than into science.

  • I just loved this pretty little song when I was a 4-6 year old. I loved the girl singing it too, whoever she was.

  • Wish things could be like they were in the 60's and 70's

  • Yeah sure, lets go back to the 60's and 70's .........let's seeeeee...... violent race riots, segregation, vietnam war ..........it wasn't all puppy dogs and rainbows, man.

  • I really want to go back to this time.I cannot understand the world I live in today.

  • I agree 100%. Take me back!!!!

  • @444kingtuts Amen to that.

  • @444kingtuts Take me with you.

  • This is so peaceful and nice, why did life have to become so ugly and terrible.

  • That... is the biggest mystery of them all

  • @444kingtuts I agree! It's so peaceful looking back at our young innocence!

  • isn't this song written by Joe Raposo?

  • I once told a lover that if they managed to find this song for me anywhere I'd marry them...they never managed...I found it myself and I have been single ever since he he

    Isn't life weird : )

  • wow I remember this song from when i was a kid!!

  • TYTYTYTY soooooo much..I would sing this over and over as a kid....happy moment for me....

  • AHH I love this song so much!^_^

  • I realy love the song !!

    thanks alot

  • Starfish shining in the sea

Do you imagine what you seem to be?

    Thoughtless, lovely swimming free

    Can you even imagine me?

(I love the thoughtless because starfish have no brains)

One of my top faves on Sesame Street. Bobby McFerrin's Tweet (Sweet) In The Morning was my all-time fave. Thanks for posting.

  • I remember that one!

  • can somebody load water baby it'swith these kids swimming in a pool a turning over andover in it.

i can't really remeber the lyrics

    it's goes some thing like...

    Water... baby

    dodeedodee doodoodooo

twisting ,turning something something like me...

sorry bout that but its to give you an idea

  • Now I know why I save these things... I feel so much better. I totally remember this! Thanx for posting this...

  • That little girl took the starfish out of the water. That is very bad for any starfish.

  • SESAME STREET RULES ALL YOU MOFOs!

  • The music and the words of this song is awesome. One of the words I couldn't understand clearly... but this is what I heard...

    Starfish shining in the sea,

Do you imagine what you seem to be?

    Softly, lovely, swimming free,

    Can you even imagine me?

  • maybe "thoughtless" instead of "softly"?

  • @love2register Thoughtless, yes.

  • Silent (not softly)...

  • @JeffK1980 it sounds like "slowly" to me.

  • @JeffK1980 That's deep..

  • @JeffK1980

Its Thoughtless..=) God, I remember sitting in my living room watching this...This was always one of my favs along with Sad flower song..

  • What a lulling peice!!!

  • I remember this one too!

  • I've been saying for years that I'd marry the person that managed to find this song for me after all these years of writing to the people at sesame st (not bert and ernie don't worry). Truly magic! I hope you're into civil partnerships love2register?

  • When I was a kid those close-ups of the starfish freaked me out

  • when i heard this song i felt that am my troubles would go away, that voice sounded like the girl that sang that song swing up high song, or how old is she now?

  • HUGE. MY BRAIN WENT INTO TIME TRAVEL

  • Wow, for 30 years this starfish thing is running in my mind. I used to sing along with this kid whenever I watched it. Soothing. By the way, maybe somebody can share the Octopus inside the aquarium clip.
