I would like to add that Dale's guitar was modified with more powerdul pickups (I think), his guitar had the thickest strings possible, and his Fender Showman amps were specially designed by Leo Fender to withstand the powerful pickups, thick strings and the high volume. Dick Dale was a killer player with killer equipment!

Ask any great guitar player and they will tell you that Dick Dale is an influence on them in one way or another. He was one of the first players to have that nasty tone.... And try to tremolo pick, in time, and as percussive as Dick Dale, I dare you.... It's not as easy as it looks.
