What about...imagine a car running during the day that has no lights, nor front ones, nor back ones ? Not the average lights you can see at first sight. The only thing you can see at first is a single and bright car...Now imagine you are a cop. You start pursuing that car that is clear infraction, you are very close, but all of a sudden AMOLED stop lights with the shine of the sun comes up from nowhere...Same system for any segment around the car joining both front and back lights. AMOLED tape.
@ExtremeAutoNews I wouldn't recommend it, and I really need to take this video down. It isn't any fault of the company that makes the sequential kit, but the body control computer in the Mark VIII was not designed to handle that kind of amperage draw. If this kit is installed it MUST MUST MUST be done with LED lights instead of standard bulbs, or the resulting wear and tear on the basic electrical system will end up causing all kinds of problems.
@ExtremeAutoNews I ended up with a melted BOO switch that nearly caught the car on fire, and am still battling electrical issues. It's a neat look but on an older car with a wiring system that was amazingly complex to begin with it's just something I would advise against at this point.
@infarc Could I please ask you exactly what the process was to open up the light housing? I bought 1 1997 Mark VIII last week and the trunk mounted light does not work. It appears to have had moisture inside of it. I want to open it up to clean and test the bulb and maybe replace the bulb with a pair of inexpensive neon lights to run with the marker lights only.
@andyass3 I think that the current draw is too large. After having that kit on my car for about 8 months, I fried my "BOO" switch. Replacing the switch ended up with another friend BOO switch. Multimeter showed raw brakelight amperage traveling through the switch, as much as 10 amps if all the brake lights were on. I suspect I ended up frying something in the Body Control Computer and there is now a direct short to my brake lights. Removing the sequential kit and replacing the original
@infarc brake lights with LEDs patched the problem by reducing the draw down to about an amp, but it isn't a repair. Just a patch. This was causing a serious fire risk. Until I can find some LED lights that will comfortably fit in the light bar, I cannot recommend doing this to your Mark VIII. Sorry.
do you happen to know if this can be done to a 96 or 97 Ford Thunderbird? i know these cars are similar, but i'm not sure. the Thunderbird has led lights across the middle of the trunk. any help would be greatly appreciated.
@46v8bird There are many similarities between the FN-10 and MN-12 platforms, but I haven't dove into a Tbird trunk to see if it would work. I am assuming if there are sufficient bulbs on each side that you could make it function. I would assume that the wiring harnesses are very similar as well but no guarantees.
@infarc i appreciate you getting back to me nice mark viii by the way. I'm in the process of putting the mark vii engine into my 96 Thunderbird. I'm having a hard time finding headers. thanks again.
@46v8bird Do a search for "super coupe performance" You'll find a site that sells kooks 3/4 length headers for the DOHC... and I am assuming you meant "Mark VIII" and not "Mark VII".
@bhole16 Nope, you'll never find any that fit in there, the wells aren't deep enough. Me and two other guys have tried, and I think you'll find that you will NOT want to smoke those lights because they will be on the dim side anyway after you do the conversion.
@infarc Really? The kit on webeletric says you can fit leds tho...Wouldnt that bulb fit in there since the sockets are made for that size only? Alright, well we will see than how this turn out...
@infarc alrighty, i just read your whole web page pretty much on how to install and looking to buy this kit within the week, ill def. keep in touch with you! sick ride btw. mines a 95. do you think it will work on mine too?
@bestamerica Who cares what you think? I think it is wrong for a car to have taillights that are any color OTHER than red. Move to a socialist country if you want your yellow turn lights, leave my car alone.
well it looks like it might be a few weeks before it gets done....O'Reilly has to order all that shit...did you get the sts-1m or the sts-1m5 kit? ill put up a video when its done
Could you point everyone on LVC to the link that I posted in the description? I would love to talk to them about it, but for some reason the site will not let me register.
you are already on LVC I should of read thru there a little more< im on there as well "Cobramarkviii" it looks like alot of them liked it, they want it for gen 2! haha
i got a question though, you said you did dual filament bulbs, so what does it look like if you turn the parking lamps on? is it like a gen 2 now, the rear panel is parking lights and stop lights correct?
If you aren't hitting the brakes or using a turn signal, the rear deck panel acts just like it always did. And it is similar to a Gen 2 in that it is now both running lights and a brake light, but it also acts as signal lights which of course is not an option with the Gen 2's neon.
Good question. Since it's been about 12 degrees outside, I have no idea, although they should get a bit hotter than the regular bulbs, I suspect it won't be an issue. My plan is to convert them over to LEDs soon, I actually have the LEDs on order, and when I get those in it'll have no heat at all.
@infarc YEAH WE KNOW HOW YOU TALK NOW!! We have a "cherry" 44,000 miler. 1995 MARK ivory pearlescent. I had two 67 Birds and I miss the sq lites also. NICE JOB
Well if I would have put any thought into it I would have said something more epic! It was 2am though, so I will use that as an excuse. Thank you for the compliments!
The kit is the STS-1 sequential kit from webelectricproducts. You can find them online. I had to create a new harness for the decklid lights and change out the plugs for two filament bulbs, but the entire project only took about 3 days.
Been wanting to do this, nice job

the law want people drivers getting accident anyday anytime

Nice. Wish they made a plug and play kit though... Three days is a bit much for me. Look great though. Maybe someday......
MisterHymes 2 years ago
Three days because I pulled the lightbar and markers off and repainted them. I think if you were dedicated you could do it in 3 hours.
