This is one of the best songs I've ever heard in life. Knowing why Lake write this makes me sensitive of the ways mankind today makes we live day by day. Seeing your video... this song just makes me sensible to what life is! This video is a treasure, Its your treasure. And I'm grateful to share it with you.
I was 20 when this song came out. (Still have the album). Cruised around in my '62 Chevy Impala SS with my buddies blasting this song on the 8 track. At 61 now, I'm a grandpa of 6 and my father just died last year. He helped me work on that '62 Chev. Such a moving tribute to your father. Brought tears to my eyes. Lucky Man for sure. Thank You.
I am an old hippie from the sixities. at least part of my brain is still intact. but, when this song came out in the 70s I was into all the rock groups, and this one became one of my favorites.
i needed a copy of lucky man for a recording project..this was the first version i clicked..you two boys are really special to make such a beautiful tribute to your father..needless to say it hit me very hard..god bless you guys and god bless your father..although i never knew your father i feel i know his spirit and yours as well.
@aintdoingit one of the major differences between God & us; His mind is infinite, ours is finite. we won't know the reasoning most of the time for the things He allows & He is under no obligation to keep us informed. what i'm quite certain of is that he will give us what we need to cope & when we get it right, we, in turn are able to help others cope & move on to where we need to be.
Raman, I Am going to take a couple excerpts from 2 poems I wrote to give to you & your father. "Hard to believe difficult to admit, A candle now no longer lit. Do not be sad nor blue, For an Angel Father is born unto you". From my poem "Tribute To Ol' Sweetness" "At times ruff 'n tuff got you by, But deep w/in Dolphins made you cry. That which you have kept 'n stored, Can now be given to Your Lord. For in death You are not defeated, At the Right Hand of God, Ralph...go & be seated". TLG
Sorry to disappoint you but the instrumental bit at the end is NOT a synthesizer. When the ELP album came out in 1971 I remember reading an interview with Greg Lake. He was at pains to stress that it was all his own work on a guitar. Keith Emerson contributed only a few burblings at the very end.
Regardles... this is a truly great song which has given me joy for 40 years this month!!
Beautiful tribute to your father, usually. you can't tell much from a picture, but he really seemed like a kind person. hopefully the boys, now men are just as good parents.
What a great video! I thought it was impossible to make me enjoy this song more than I already did but your accompanying video proved me wrong! Many thanks for sharing! I kind of feel like I know what an awesome person your dad was now.
It's been almost ten years now My Daddy had a long life for a WWII vet and depression child. I still wake on some Saturday mornings and go to the phone to call him, like I always did.
Very touching. I am so glad you and your brothers knew a loving dad. Thinking of my beloved Uncle, who left behind 4 young kids at age 41 to throat cancer. RIP, Scottie <3
woow seeing this reminds me of the big fight my dad and i made, didn't saw him for 3 years long and a few months ago we talked about it and we forgave eachother...but when i read the description i really can say that he is a lucky man and i'm a lucky girl with having a father! some how i wish i could turn all the good fathers back to earth so they can have a good time with there kids. i have really respect for the kids who have a close family member who past away!
That was a beautiful tribute. Crying here. He looked like a very kind man, as you can see that in his eyes. Yes, he was a lucky man, to be remembered so lovingly. I lost my dad 12 years ago and I still ache for him. He was my hero and inspiration. I don't have a video, yet, but, have many songs dedicated to him. Some songs were his faves. Lucky Man is one that I had dedicated to him. It is good to see others, that were blessed enough, to have such good daddies. Thank You for posting.
I think this was one of their best songs ever done. But all and all they were a great band and I still listen to them often.Get stoned lay back and enjoy!
wow that was sweet as,shot my eye,s to pieces, your father was lucky to have nice kids that never forgot him, and who is was ,and never will, people like you are about the only thing that makes it any easier in life, all the best to all of your family today..Sydney down under !!!!!and i am sorry for you dad as well !!

Great song. Wonderful tribute to your dad! On the negative, there are 21 idiots with no compasion. Way to go Ramanujan88! It bought a tear to my eyes.
Watched this a few months ago and it made me think about my own dad who was killed long ago in an unacknowledged war. I keep coming back to watch your video...thanks!
Your tribute to your father blew me away. Such raw emotion, meloncholy and beautiful, the good old days, crushingly sad but the stuff of which our lives are made. I came across your video looking for ELP Lucky Man, and it moved me profoundly. I am sure in many respects, your dad was indeed a lucky man Congratulations...
@xhiimyourgod , good luck kid, hope ur Dad recovers , apparently if you eat lots of natural foods , cancer is destroyed ?? , hope that is true , but i mean well; do google alternative cancer cures and see what the choices are:- as chemo ,can be deadly . Good tunes help a lot though , I never heard this song before , but the drumming is always good . with Carl . Peace
Very Nice Tribute Video !!! My Dad taught me how to play chess when I was very young also. You really gotta apreciate the real important things in life.God,Family and friends. The simple things are the best. Thanks for sharing.Take care .
Very powerful music, the lyrics suggest the soldier had been shot, so he laid down and died. My Mother suffered a long humilitating death, I wish I had the willpower to have shortened that agony?
very, very touching, man. i feel really sorry about your dad but hope that we all be able to sing that song with changed lyrics at the ends of our lives.
Powerful video, I never would have been able to put this together... I went through the exact same thing, he died from cancer when I was 19, actually your father bears a resemblance to mine, dark hair thick beard, they look a lot alike... when I see this it makes me think of him, he loved this song.... Thank you for being able to post such a great video.
Greg Lake began writing this song when he was 12. An ironic story of a man who had everything, but he went to war & died. What a lucky man he was. Great anti-war message! Keith Emerson's signature Moog solo at the end was his 1ST take & he wasn't aware that the tape was running. Incredible song!
My Mom passed this July from cancer. Its a beatiful tribute to your father. Seems like he really was a lucky. If I knew how to make videos like this I would make one for her too.
@redwallace with windows movie maker (or whatever version Mac has) it ain't so hard. I hope one day you do make a tribute for your mom (if that's your way of expressing). Bless you. Thank you for your kind words.
i have always loved this song was surfing on the tube and ran across this you did a great job on the video and you made me cry just a littlethis was filled with such sorrow but also filled with a lot of love and happiness. sounds like you had a great father i hope you realize how lucky you were i dont mean that in a bad way. not everyone was so lucky to know a fathers love. any way great job
A lucky man indeed, not by mere words but deeds. Thank you for sharing this video with us. It Inspires me to do better with this short time we all have left.
Always try to spend time with loved ones because one never knows when it will be the last you will see them. Also remember what words you say because it can come back to haunt you. I hope and pray that he God in his heart so he can be in a better place. It makes me think about having to make the decision of taking my wife off of life support. God bless you.
Every time i listen to this song now, i think about this video, and your father lying in a hospital mouthing words i'll never hear over the ethereal vox of greg lake. and it makes me think about life and death in my own life. You have given this song an entirely new meaning and dimension of depth for me. thank you.
@tekkentool thank you for your beautiful and moving words. My Dad gave the song new meaning for us and you given the thought of listening to music new meaning for me.
BTW, if you're intering my dad's "mouthing words" are actually available on youtube via my channel...it's a long video, 7 parts, but I put it up so my siblings and mother could have easy access (as she, his wife requested).
what a present... @_@ no words, it's awesome
