Well, yeah. They'd all been expecting to see Idina, and they were pissed that she paid and she couldn't finish. She would've gone off sick much earlier but Kerry wasn't rehearsed enough to take over for her until the Nov 9 show. You may have noticed Idina's sickness in some of her earlier London performances.

Kerry certainly blew them away, though. This is where she first made her mark!

The best part about this is that Idina started the show, and when Kerry came on (I believe it was after One Short Day), the audience boo'd her.

But then, after that reception, to come out and deliver a Defying Gravity THAT flawlessly...well, that was a big "fuck you" to the audience.

You rule, Kerry.

In my Opinion one of the best Defying Gravity's ever! I know people will hate me and say i don't know what I'm talking about But i cant help it. This is just amazing. I think Kerry Is the best Elphaba Ever! She made the role her own and Brought something completely different to the character. One of the most amazing voices I've ever heard. xxx

one thing i will admit that i admire about kerry is that she made this song her own from the very start.

Usually standbys start of modelling after the lead's version of the song and slowly develop their.

Kerry seems to have had her version from the beggining.

In the blog Ball says "Suddenly it was all systems go. Impromptu meetings all over the place, and a plan of action quickly agreed and communicated to all depts. We will stop the show at the end of Emerald City as we go into the Wizards Chamber, Wyn will make an announcement, and Kerry will take over." I can't find it anywhere on the internet anymore, but I downloaded it onto my PC ages ago so just copied and pasted what I've just put. Hope that helped :)

Idina was sick, there's a dvd of her from the matinee performance and you can tell. I assume she would've just left stage while the wizard head was coming on and Kerry would've come on and they'd carry on as normal

That must have been quite disconcerting for the audience ... seeing as though there is such a contrast between the voices of Idina and Kerry. Elphie goes from high witchy powerhouse to rock chick in the space of 2 seconds haha.

I really wish I'd been able to see Kerry perform back when she was standby. Much as I love her, you can tell she's getting bored of it now, this performance just has so much more energy. I'll miss her when she leaves on 9th May, but I'm glad she's not staying in a role she's bored of.

I'm so glad she's now added in the growl on 'look to the western sky', though, I LOVE that growl!
