Incorrect, in the UK you CAN use other firearms to shoot rabbits for example a .22 rimfire or a shotgun is fine, you just have to have the permit to own and use a firearm or that type also have permission to use it on the land that you are shooting on, I have been shooting rabbits with other types of gun before (Rimfire and shotgun) and there have been no legal issues due to the fact I was shooting with a person to whom had the required permits to shoot with that type or gun on private land.
you can hunt with guns in the uk, just on private land, plus you can use a slingshot, they can be made alot more powerful than your standard air rifle, have longer range, better options for ammo and fit in your pocket

In the UK you are also alowed to use crossbow's as they do not require a permit. the only law on them in the UK is that if you are under 18 you have to be supervised by someone over the age of 21 and if you 18 or over you can use crossbows to hunt small game such as rabbits.

@RumbleGuts2112 What you're talking about is called "rabbit starvation," and you don't know much about it. If you eat nothing but rabbit, yes, you will die. But that's not because rabbits lack beneficial nutrients. Rabbits are an excellent source of nutritional value, full of vitamins and proteins. Like any very lean meat, it should not be your only source of sustenance. You will need to supplement with carbohydrates or fats of some sort.

I was comparing meat for meat, without additions such as veg. Beef for instance when cooked properly to get rid of the tapeworm wont do any harm if eaten by itself for prolonged periods. Imho rabbit should only be an additive to the meal not the meal itself because like it or not it is poisonous.
Personally when i have to be in survival mode i go for veg more than meat because its better been safe than sorry.

Cattail roots are edible all year round if that applys to your area.They teach you that same information as well as how to skin small game like rabbits in Army survival training.

In the UK you are also alowed to use crossbow's as they do not require a permit. the only law on them in the UK is that if you are under 18 you have to be supervised by someone over the age of 21 and if you 18 or over you can use crossbows to hunt small game such as rabbits.

As hunting is not permitted the only 'good reason' is target practice so unless you're going to carry one of those massive FITA targets with you, you'll be in deep doo-doo if you get caught in a field with one

But I'd have to agree with you that the government isn't like it use to be were it wanted to help you now a day's it seems it just wants more of your money and for you to go along with it. @KoalaBear9526 We are only a small country with limited resources so the goverment gets a bit pissed off when the hungry populace wants to feed itself rather than putting coins in their hands. Rabbits, pidgeons and rats are about the only things we can eat for free because they are seen as vermin. Kill and chew down on something healthier and expect the law to drag you off to prison.

I know you guys and lady are eating rabbit on a survival basis. But you might want to know that if you remove the nerve on the rabbits thigh it make the meat taste much better. Its where the two mussels join. Just cut with a knife remove and you should find a different s in the meat. Other than that my favorite meats.

Rabbits are probably the worst survival food you can eat. They have no nutrional value to speak of and are in fact toxic to humans. Unlike other meats such as beef etc if you were forced to eat nothing but rabbit for a few months it would end up killing you because of its total lack of nutrition. Also they are full of nemotodes which rely on rabbits for their life cycle and can cause a lot of problems with humans when digested.

@RumbleGuts2112 What you're talking about is called "rabbit starvation," and you don't know much about it. If you eat nothing but rabbit, yes, you will die. But that's not because rabbits lack beneficial nutrients. Rabbits are an excellent source of nutritional value, full of vitamins and proteins. Like any very lean meat, it should not be your only source of sustenance. You will need to supplement with carbohydrates or fats of some sort.

I was comparing meat for meat, without additions such as veg. Beef for instance when cooked properly to get rid of the tapeworm wont do any harm if eaten by itself for prolonged periods. Imho rabbit should only be an additive to the meal not the meal itself because like it or not it is poisonous.
Personally when i have to be in survival mode i go for veg more than meat because its better been safe than sorry.

@RumbleGuts2112 yeah its from the lack of space to get a point across. the main thing that i see as being confusing is the eating rabbit meat only then death (after months) but when in survival mood you eat more then just the meat. you eat the eyes, the bone marrow and so on. and if you do that, it can sustain you for pretty much ever....and since it take so long for the starvation to hit, and all you see is rabbit, then eat just the rabbit, but yes, I to make use of everything around.

@1crazyfocker Lack of space can be a problem but i havent changed my tune - In the begining i said rabbit is toxic if eaten by itself for prolonged periods compared to beef etc because it is devoid of nutrients.
The amount of effort catching a rabbit far outweighs the nutrients wasted putting it in the pot. I know it sounds daft but in a true survival situation its probably better to suck the salt etc off your own toes.
Rabbits are lacking in nutrients and are full of nemotodes and myxomtosis.

Prolonged periods (month more or less) of eating nothing but small game like this you will get whats called Protein poisoning. You should always as best you can try to vary you're diet with edible plants to avoid this. Cattail roots are edible all year round if that applys to your area.They teach you that same information as well as how to skin small game like rabbits in Army survival training.
