I went cross-country in '01 in a '95 Z28 in 36 hours flat from Philly to San Diego. I topped out at 145 mph somewhere in the Arizona/New Mexico desert.
I also did a real life CB Run back in '99 from Philly to Clearwater Beach, FL and back to Philly. Hella fun!
Gizmondo or some similar site ran a story on a guy who did it in a BMW recently. Car was loaded to the gills with sensors and he had a small plane scouting for traffic chokes and cops.
Even had night vision on the car.
I would venture to say that these drivers who did the Cannonball Run with nothing but fuel and a sports car are significantly more intense.
Yeah there supossidly was someone that made it accross this year 31hours and 59minutes. Ferrari 575 with extra fuel tanks and loads of electronics. They said it was the hardest thing they ever did in their life
