How could anyone argue for less harsh penalties for drunk driving? I don't care if you don't like MADD, or you don't think 16,000 people is very many. Tell you what, take those 16,000 people who's lives are taken each year by other peoples selfishness and stack them up within your property lines. I suspect you'll have one of the tallest building in Columbus. I agree the law was unfairly applied in your case, but for actual drunk drivers? I say throw them in jail and revoke their license for life
I just read your appel response. Sorry to hear that. That is such bullshit. MADD has created this insane witch hunt. I wish there was a wah to rid the US of this real enemy to freedom. Only getting worse, and yes MADD is out to have interlock devices installed in all vehicles not just those convicted of dui. I know this to be factual. They have caused the creation of such bullshit laws that no one is safe from their neo-NAZI BS anymore. What are they going to take away next. Take Care-
MADD is the real danger. Their revenge and retrubution seeking BS has undermined the Constitution and has ruined so many people's lives, careers, relationships and financial ability to take care of oneself and they will never stop until we stop them. An unconstitutional roadblock can result in someones rights being taken away, interlocks mandated and lives screwed over for years due to the likes of MADD. We have to rid the US of those fanatical neo-NAZI bastards once and for all.
I promise to give $10,000 ( the amount I have in a CD account ) to anyone who can give a logical reason why it should be illegal to drive drunk on private property that does not have public access.
1. Actually, you can determine how many trips are made under sever alcohol intoxication. Out of your estimated 24.820 trips (in 34 years of driving), how many times did you drive really drunk? A statistic is difficult to get, even if you did drive a lot drunk, as most people did not do it - not even once.
2. Out of the estimated '7 million' drivers of Ohio, I bet less than 1% ever drove at least once really drunk. That would mean about 70.000 drivers. Do you have 70.000 crazy drunk-all-the-time drivers in Ohio? I don't think so, ergo we can assume safely that they drink hard and drive rarely. Say about twice a year (on average).
3. I'm not saying there are exceptions in one direction or the other, but a heavy drinker is left without a licence sooner or later. Let's assume that they make 1 drunk trip in 15.000 so it would be about 0.006% of their trips. So a more realistic statistic would be: 70.000 drivers x 365 days x 2 trips per day = 51.100.000 trips each year made by suspect people.
@adiilie81 The problem is the heavy drinkers often don't lose their license until AFTER they hurt somebody. I'm just sick of hearing "pedestrian Joe Schmoe and two others were killed by a drunk driver doing 110 mph the wrong way down a one way street. The driver had prior DWI charges". Send them to jail when they get caught and don't give their license back, ever. If you lack the most basic skills to EXIST in the populace without hurting people, you don't deserve to drive a 4000 pound rocket.
4. One in 15.000 is drunk, so 51.100.000/15.000 = 3.406 really drunk trips ending with about 400 accidents, an amazing 12%. That is still an amazingly low figure. You may say - it's not bad, it is still a very acceptable figure. Let's say you eliminate the law . You now have 7 million possible drinkers, doing probably more than 0.006% of their trips drunk, as there is no law against it, and they are not afraid - nor do they lose their licence.
5. I would go just as high as 0.1% of trips really drunk (1 in 1000 trips, about once a year). Out of the 5 trillion trips made each year, that translates into an amazing 5.1 million really drunk trips. Now, we said that there about 12% of the drunk trips end in accidents. As there are many people driving drunk, I dare say that percent will increase, but let's stick with it. It would translate into no less then 612.000 accidents each year (!!!).
6. Congratulations. P.S. of course this was a forced statistic, but a) yours was too and b) it is not even that stretched. Think about it. If it translates into 10% of my estimate, it means 60.000 accidents each year, and tens of thousands people dying from drunk driving! Please think twice before posting stupid things online.
There is one HUGE flaw in your argument. Out of the 5 trillion trips made each year, how many are made under severe alcohol intoxication? 500 accidents caused by severe alcohol intoxication.... out of how many intoxicated trips? It is not OK to use ALL trips to make that risk assessment!
@Jak00125 Hi. I hate to chime in on this healthy conversation as I made my statement in the video. But a question was asked about the outcome of the appeal. I have tried to hyperlink to the courts opinion but apparently there is some rule against this as it will not allow me to post it. I hope someone will be able to put this together. I believe it is important to see the process at work and what passes for law in this country. JB. driving and drinking dot org slash docs slash opinionsm. pdf
I dont see what the problem is, if you don't want to get nicked by the police for drinking, simply quit drinking, i know say simply, because im 19, and I personally dont feel the urge to drink, but still, have some self control people
Yep, MADD is just one of many political groups trying to create solutions for very real, yet (relatively) MINIMAL problems. Groups like MADD and the anit-gun Brady Campaign seem to only be in business to gather donation money and get a feeling of self-importance. The CDC, FBI, Consumer Products Safety Commission etc., all make their findings public. And all will show that MADD, VPC, Brady, et al are addressing very statistically small issues, while making their respective directors rich .
I am in no way, shape or form discounting the unneeded, senseless and tragic consequences of negligent, stupid acts committed by thoughtless people. Lives cannot be replaced; and there MUST be consequences for (and deterrents to) idiotic behavior. However, when you truly evaluate the empirical data that is available, groups like MADD, VPC, etc., however good their intentions may be, are just making money. Encourage enforcement of current laws? No. Campaign for new laws? Yes. It makes money.
You make me sick. I think Drunk Drivers should get 30 days mandatory minimum. If you lose your job, too bad. Lose your residence? TOO BAD! You deserve it. Drunk drivers are a menace.
I like how in the begining you state now that you have 1 conviction, penaltys will be doubled on the next one. Already looking forward to a new beef huh?
@modernaction did you even watch the whole thing? he was pushing his bike on his own property and got charged? how is that in any universe make him a filthy worm? please just ONE logical reason.
@sparkyyoung Cause he's a drunk driving condoning asshole, and obviously so are you. Yer a worm too. I would wish you a horrible death in a solo drunken car wreck, but I dont want to wish that on your innocent loved ones. You should be ashamed of yourself you disgusting piece of garbage.
@modernaction you are either a troll or a really stupid human being. I dont condone it i just think that some of the penalties are a bit much. grow up an see the world for what it is. it is not a safe place man and if you think it is you are deluding yourself.
@sparkyyoung You are already looking to excuse your drinking. I'm well aware that the world isn't a safe place, but that is no excuse to be reckless and endanger innocent people driving intoxicated. As for the penalities being a bit much, you are out of your tiny little pea sized mind. A temporarily suspended licence and a few thousand dollars in fines and fees is nothing. I spend more than that going to see rock bands play around the world. 30 days is too good for scum that drinks and drives.
@modernaction ok you dont even know me. I would NEVER drink and drive. I very rarely even drink so can take your atom sized brain and keep your trap shut.
@sparkyyoung You can go suck it sparky. I wasn't takling to you anyway, you just got all butt hurt by my comments and you had to throw your 2 cents in. It's a free country, and we have free speech. But expect continued written ass kickings if you continue to spar with me. You wanted 1 logical reason the OP is a worm? THEY ARE A DRUNK DRIVING CONDONING ASSHOLE. It appears you are as well. The penalities are soft, as I have already pointed out. A fine. Big flippin deal. You should get JAIL TIME!
@modernaction Last word......there are much bigger problems in this world then drunk drivers. Maybe more attention and funds should be put into them instead of jailing people that walk their bicycles after having a few drinks.
@sparkyyoung I am not advocating ignoring bigger problems. But it's been said that one unrepaired broken window is a signal that no one cares, and so breaking more windows costs nothing. Same applies here. A drunken asshole on a bike may only be a menace to himself, but next time behind the wheel, they are a menace to innocent people. Not 90 seconds into the video, this guy is already worrying about his next conviction. DONT DRIVE DRUNK AND IT WONT MATTER IF THE PENALTIES ARE INCREASED 10Xs!
@modernaction Perhaps you should actually listen to the video. He wasn't on a bicycle, he was pushing it across his yard on private property. You're of the opinion that we should lock people up for what we think they could do. That's a real slippery slope. I think that people that listen to The Who should be locked up because they promote drug use. When reading through all your posts, all I could think of was "you're a fuck-tard!" You're an idiot! Why not meet me so we can discuss this topic?
@anynameplease Just more rubbish from another drunk. Dont be a drunk asshole, and you wont have police contact. As I stated, IMO people that are over the legal limit should get a mandatory minimum of 30 days. Period. This video, along with many of the comments, aludes that the penalties for drunk driving are too severe. They are not severe enough. A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS IS NOTHING. Some crybaby drunk with a bike had a run in with the police and is crying about it on the you tube. BFD.
@modernaction It's a bit of assumption to call me a drunk. I also advocate for drugs and prostitution, yet I do not drink, drug, or buy whores. I'm not even a smoker. I do not like how the government has become so draconian in their laws and the over zealous enforcement. Look at how they're now targeting fat people. They've already begun to target "normal people" that are involved in a crash, but aren't drunk. It's only a matter of time before speeding lands you 30 days in jail.
@anynameplease They are people of size you fucking scumbag, and America is not spelled with a K. Good job dipshit, a dangerous drunk gets in a car and endangers your life on your bicycle, and you think "Amerikkka" and their draconian laws are the culprit. Well I ride a scooter you asshole eater, and dont take kindly to fucked up folks on the road. I take it back, yer not a drunk, but you are an asshole. Now go fuck yourself.
@modernaction It's also not only about the money. It's the criminal record that bars many from any sort of gainful employment. I don't know if you're in the UK, or another country, but here in America DUIs bar people from employment and traumatize them for life. In this video, the man explains how only 30 innocent people will killed by drunks. That's smaller than the number killed by sober drivers, but you think we should ruin 40k people's lives and lock them up in jail just to save 30 people?
@modernaction I use the 40k figure because we lock 2 million people up un Amerika and ruin their lives all for a DUI. What about speeders, mobile users, and distracted drivers? They actually kill more people than drunks do. Don't assume I'm some drunk. It makes you look ignorant. I do not own a car, drink, and therefore I cannot drink and drive. I don't like cars or driving. It's a huge waste of money. I'm a cyclist, and I found this video by looking at cycling related vids. Cars are evil!
@anynameplease Yawn. Same tired crap. Dont drink and drive, and you dont have to worry about it. Get back on yer bike and stay out of it you scum. Boo fucking hoo if drunk drivers are tramatized, dont do the crime if ya cant do the time. People KNOW it is gonna suck and yet they still do it? Just goes to show the irresponsibility and just how bad of a menace they are. Wont learn till they get hit with a MURDER beef...
Thanks for posting this. I have suffered the loss of a family member due to drunk driving yet I agree completely with the point of this video. Driving is inherently dangerous. Making laws to prevent drunk driving has, at best, a negligible effect on public safety. It is mainly a means of control and profit. To wit, the movement several years ago to lower DD limits from .10% to .08% had EVERYTHING to do with putting more ppl in prison and generating more work for legal pros - that's it.
Yeah, a law written so broadly as to allow someone to get ticketed and/or arrested on private property while in control of a non-motorized vehicle is just plain stupid. Once again, our politicians coming up with solutions that are in need of a problem. Kinda like California banning some guns based strictly on cosmetics (they look scary and mean). Solutions in need of a problem. Maybe this gentleman should join DAMM (Drunks Against Mad Mothers).
They way you were charged with OVI while walking your bike is wrong and excessive, but the rest of your "demonstration" is devoid of statistical merit.
Typically, only 3-10% of the drivers on the road are legally drunk at any given time, but they cause nearly 40% of the fatalities. That IS statistically significant enough to warrant criminal prosecution.
Are you really serious? D.U.I. is just as bad if you're 60 and crashed 2 times or you're 17 and crashed 100 times.
Now i admit, the penalties are too big for that, but i don't believe in a motorway full of drunk people (proud of the fact that they didn't crash for being drunk..ever! ever, officer, i tells ya!)
@supruzr In this video he not once did he say that he did not want any law on drunk drivers. He is just saying that as the numbers go the penalties are to high.
@sparkyyoung Hey Sparky - If ya cant do the time, dont do the crime. The penalities are laughable. A few thousand dollars and a suspended licence is NOTHING for unnecessarily endangering innocent lives. I am aware that driving in general carries risks, and can be dangerous. That makes it all the more abhorrent when someone drives while intoxicated. You should be ashamed of yourself.
I don't really think he is acting "proud" because he didn't crash. He's trying to prove a point. All this hype over bogus figures = YOU and me losing our rights every day. Think about it.
I love all these cops shows on tv when they bust someone for drinking and driving its always someone that is bomb but never the guy that just had a few and is just fine they never show that and thats why a lot of the public got perception what a d.w.i is and they heard you got a d.w.i thats what they think you was and its so far from the truth.Oh Madd look what u done shame on you.
Yeah Madd is one radical group.I read the other day that Madd is now want not only ignition interlock in all convicted d.w.i drivers they want cameras installs as well for the fear someone might try get someone else too blow.Insane they are.Dont get me started I can go on and on and what the point they dont listen to no one commom sense they dont have.
Great stuff. You put everything I found out about after receiving my DUI into a nice presentation. I was shocked by the stats when I started to research DUIs on my own, here I was thinking a school bus was being blown up every week.
IMHO, MADD is just like PETA...they're only interested in promoting themselves and their own selfish agenda. Period.
They continually ignore facts and statistics. And they misled the public with skewed statistics in order to further their agenda.
The country would be MUCH better without them. Because of them, our rights, privacy and personal liberties are being trampled on more and more each day. Buncha fucktwats. And we don't need them!
Do you realize how much money MADD makes.Let me put it like this..For every DUI in the US MADD gets a portion of the fine.Which they get thru "Groups" you must go to and pay for.I got a DUI in 1996 and later dropped.I blew a .45 at the arrest, and a .04 1 hour later.Go figure that.I now belong to DAMM-Drunks Against Mad Mothers.
In some countries the penalty for DUI is death. I guess they argue that if you can prevent just one death by killing people, wouldn't you do it? No consideration is given to the debilitating and punative effects of these laws. How many people are in jail right now, not working, not running their business, because they had a BAC over 0.08. You hardly have to even drive. I know a girl who has a DUI from a crumb of pot they found after she blew 0.00. Cop reached his record 128th DUI arrest/mo.
Not supporting the majority of drink driving laws is just irresponsible. And to back that up with statistics saying that only 474 people died? Give me a break, I don't care how good of a driver you think you are. Would you spend 4 days in jail to possibly save somebody's life? You have to look at each death as one that could have been prevented. Tough break with the bike but small losses aren't an infringement on your rights, they're protecting the more basic ones.
dude DWI aint that bad like... 50,000 die from it like a year... Mabey less and 400,000 people die a year from internal problems.. such as Smoking.. or lung cancer or anything like that
He right on the money!Madd has blown these numbers way out of portion.I myself never known someone kill someone after drinking 2 beers and driving in my 40 years ever!If even you had one beer and you had a wreck MADD will say alcohol impair you judgement that why the wreck happen. Its based on a lot bullshit!I dont condone drunking driving but i dont condone over protected laws based on a lot of lies! The guy did a good job with this video!Good Work!
good lord this video made me realize how indoctrinated I am from being constantly bombarded by the rhetoric of MADD and other groups - excellent video - you stated your case clearly, logically and fairly - unbelievable eye opener - this 'if you can save just one life' garbage is completely anti-American bullshit - this is a free goddamn country - you don't let the government become everyone's babysitter just because you love everyone so so so much... gimme a break.
Too argue the penalties for Drunk Driving is extremely ridiculous, especially when you are downplaying the negative effects it has. If you can prevent just 1 death from these penalties then they are doing there job. Why risk a life? Drunk Driving is taking a gamble with not only yours but others lives as well. Just dont do it.
Maybe next time, instead of dangerously picking the bike up from the sidewalk while drunk, you could safely cast a fishing line to snare the bike, and drag it to the porch. Just try not to hook any pedestrians or policemen.
thank the lord common sense still lives in the heart and mind of at least one true American. 38 and never had a valid slave privilege. thank goodness i have not encountered any trouble on my bicycle yet. USSA!!!!
there should be rules set in place to "unF*ck" people like yourself. Totally agree that you were done wrong in all possible ways.
But the second they say its ok to drink and drive, how many accidents are going to happen? its like saying speed limit is 55 and everybody goes 70. if u tell them they can go 70 they will go 100. u know what i mean??
I considered this as well, but manslaughter, vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment, depraved indifference... they are all already illegal - what is it with this country we have to have fraud - AND identity theft - or dragging someone behind a pickup truck to death - or dragging someone behind a pickup truck to death because you hate gays??? I don't get it... pathetic
Actually, driving with alcohol in your blood is a step removed from speeding. Speeding is dangerous. Speeding IS driving unsafely- thats the risk created. Alcohol in blood on its own isn't dangerous. It creates a risk of creating a danger. It increases the risk of a driver being incapable of driving safely, and driving unsafely is the risk. if that made sense
when you compared drunk driving with speeding, you made a great point. I mean, let's be fair. Why not just do an umbrella punishment and not single out drunken drivers since speeders cause just as much harm/accidents/damage.
Quote "This guy is sick and he wont change till some one in his family is killed by a drunk driver"
Of course, as long as the driver isn't drunk, then its ok to kill someone with your car, right?
If there's a law against hurting someone, why do we need a law against meeting a statistical probability that one time in a billion you might hurt someone? If the first law doesn't work, why should the next?
I was right there with you, up until you started to justify abolition of drunk motor vehicle driving laws. I agree, laws prohibiting drinking of driving a lawn mower bicycle or golf cart on private property are wrong, but laws against driving a car drunk are not, and no amount of justification with numbers will change my mind about that. It's sort of like justifying a repeal of flu research because so few people die from flu compared to cancer. We can mitigate DUI deaths easier than flu deaths.
i dont drink alcohol....i lost my sister, brother in law and nephew to drunk drivers.....i have no sympathy for drunk drivers....bikes and lawn mowers?....seems a little harsh....i designate myself as the driver when my friends are drinking to excess......if your family/life has been impacted by drunk driving you understand...sitting between your mother and father at a funeral...holding them both up as they cry....is no place to be....please dont drink and drive...
Drink driving is idiotic but pushing a bicycle isnt drink driving in any realm of reality. IT would be different if this guy was riding it, but pushing it under the influence of alcohol was actually the right sane and reasonable decision, i cant believe this happened to him!!
True, the danger with cycling drunk in public is obvious. On your own property you might just fall up and mess yourself up which is your own business. I dont think he was riding it though, which is why its so stupid. The rise of the police state eh. You are free to let us micromanage every aspect of your life. Police should have common sense it obvious he wasnt a danger to anyone, but police have quotas and if there aren't enough criminals out there you can be sure they will make them!! :)
Driving is NOT a right, it is a privilege. That's why they say your driving privileges are revoked, not your driving rights. Anybody who gets behind the wheel of a car for any reason after drinking any amount of alcohol is abusing their privilege. It's called designating a driver, calling a cab, or taking the bus! To even sugest that not having the "right" to mix drinking with driving is "repressive" isn't just ignorant or stupid, it's dangerous. Think US laws are tough? Go to Germany sometime.
Ah yes, the old "we should just take it up the ass in our own backyard because it sucks even more somewhere else" argument. Seems to me that's about as logical as telling black people they should have just shut up and accepted Jim Crow since we still weren't giving it to them as bad as the Nazis gave it to the Jews.
No. I'm very obviously comparing Jim Crow to the Holocaust in order to demonstrate the stupidity of your argument that simply because something is really bad somewhere else it is OK if it's just a little bad here. Charging somebody with a crime simply for walking his bike across his lawn after having a few beers is not justified by the fact that it might be even worse in Germany.
*sigh* There's no use arguing with you. I hope you remember how much you fought for the "right" to drink and drive when you're pissing in a diaper while experiencing excruciating "phantom limb" pains.
Thank you for your non-response. I may be in diapers someday, but you're there already. Your complete gullibility and total willingness to swallow any bullshit fed to you by your "betters" will help to ensure that big nanny America never neglects to change baby's wet bummy. How sad it is to live daily in such fear that you have to hide behind mommy. You really should go to Germany. Better yet, just wrap yourself in bubble wrap and hide in a closet until you die an ignominious death.
Look, I do agree that the whole pushing your bike thing IS bullshit, but there's a big difference between pushing a bike and getting behind the wheel of a car. Your tone seems to suggest they're one and the same, which is what pisses me off. If I'm just misunderstanding you, I'm sorry. And I never said anything about needing big nanny America for anything. I said it's ridiculous to think drunk driving is a "right" which the government impedes. If you want to call that hiding behind Mommy, fine.
He's only talking deaths. Injuries, paralysis, $ losses? My friend, a poor, single mom student, was run off road by a drunk. She spent 1 day in hospital, but was in pain for weeks. Car was totaled, and the drunk didn't have any $ or insur. Now my friend is in debt for a car she couldn't afford and delayed graduation for a semester. Be honest. What are the numbers of people whose lives have been turned upside down by drunken libertarians? Cry ur alcoholic tears on Ron Paul's lapel.
since he is talking about statistics being wrong, 36,000 people a year do not die from the flu. If you look on the CDC website you will find on average less than 1300 die a year from the flu.
Ok, well all this appeal stuff is nice but let's look at the definition of the word "vehicle" from the statute that you were charged under. At the very end it says "other than a BICYCLE that is moved by human power"
The Constitution assures you of a jury trial, and as a member of the jury, I would find you not guilty. That is your only protection, folks. Teach your friends, family, and neighbors to defend your rights so that you can defend theirs.
There is much to be said about our driving laws, but the one that really is wrong is the idea that a person must have a drivers licence in order to opperate a motor vehichle on our highways.
They tell us that driving is a privilage. Well, it's not, its a right.
We have the freedom of mobility what ever the mode of transpotation is for the day.
The Motor vehichle Dept. is nothing more that a clearing house for idenifiying all citizens on a national basis.
its the direction our country is moving in, more interference in our private lives. more control, more parenting, more thinking that 'they' know whats 'best' for us.
Jeff, awesome job. That report kicks ass, I can only imagine what the rest of the country totals. Go Libertarians!!! Thanks for the spotlight Doug. I may have to take Carrie Nation off my hero list.
We need to get together to build a force against the Tetotalitarianists and their desire for prohibition. A force that can stand up to the lies of MADD
Drunk driving laws are a big money maker for local govt. This and not any concern for the public is why they will only get tougher. And no I do not drink.
Alcohol is perhaps the most destructive drug to societies. However, most of these newly found laws seem based on mood swings. I think it is best to get back to the base the US Constitution and discard all these laws to start from a solid foundation for newly added laws. No law should be passed unless there is a referendum and the majority of people approve it in that state.
Oh holy fuck that is so funny. I've been drinking and driving for 30 years and I've only been in ONE small car wreck that was NOT alcohol related. Fuck you MADD! Why don't you get off your fat ass and fight against something WAY more important like homelessness or wage slavery!
I especially like "on the installment plan"! That's how they're doing everything. Look out folks. You're giving the government just a little more power, and then just a little more, and then a little more, and before you know it, they have so much that you don't have any left with which to defend yourself!
That's completely ridiculous. You shouldn't be punished for what you do on your own property.
Yet, I think your logic is slightly flawed. 13k is not a lot of people compared to 300mil, but it's hard to say that those people don't matter. Also, I don't have numbers on this, but I would think that speeding deaths are often fatal only to the driver and their passengers, whereas drunk drivers may kill innocent people in other cars more often.
You should focus on personal property, not DUI law.
No one is saying the 13000 people killed by drunks "don"t" matter/The point is that groups like madd use illogical scare tactics to create an illusion of same great threat that does not exist!/Laws must be based on logic and truth not LIES! the anti dui lobby is just another racket/look at what the manufacturers of these breathalyzers alone stand to gain if we are all foced to get one! madd is a scam/if you want someone to fear/fear govt tyranny/VOTE RON PAUL!!!
You make valid points, but you can't say that DUI isn't a threat at all. How many people are currently saved by DUI law?
Also, easy on the "government tyranny" stuff. Keep in mind that MADD is a private group. If they successfully lobby politicians who we continue to vote into office, then that's democracy. Take things one at a time. Think for yourself before you join any cause (yes, even libertarianism).
There is nothing wrong with drunk driving laws in the sense that the cop pulls over a driver, he smells alcohol he has a reasonable suspicion the guy is drunk, Which gives him probable cause to issue a soberiety test, however, extending laws to include on private property and expanding it to include bicycles? dont you think thats extreme? Its not like the government isnt getting anything out of this. Fines, dont forget most prisons are private now so it pays to jail people.
I was just about to post a comment about how the motivation behind these laws is driven by the same moral opposition that gave rise to prohibition - and then you point it out at the very end. Kudos.
your video is so boring.. you may not have deserved all your trouble..regards of all your stats.. drinking and driving is effin stupid. just don't do it
5865366, commenting without watching the video shows you up as stupid. Just don't do it.
The morons in power have to control everything including moving your bike on your own property. In the UK the dead brain ultra racist and power crazy police will come and threaten u with jail if u stand more than a few feet from a bus stop. They're just not interested in actual crime, u know, muggings, rapes and beatings they prefer not to get involved in.
I love this vidieo and FUCK MADD this fucking country is turning to shit with all these fucking laws FUCK EM !!! lets start a nation wide MADD protest and see where it goes.
totally agreee...and fuck MADD ...nothing but a special lobby group....overkill is an understaement...fuck madd and the people who run the organization
In TX if you drink AND drive AND commit a traffic infraction (witnessed by officer) you WILL go to jail. I did. After ~ 9 mos I got my blood alcohol/drug level back as ZERO. I paid ~$7000 in fees (mostly lawyer). You don't need a BAC >0.08 for conviction! Even a 0% BAC can STILL get you a DWI! TX law is if alcohol/drug is determined to impair you physically/mentally, you will get a DWI regardless of BAC. Although innocent of charges, I NEVER drink & drive now.
OMG! i seriously can't believe u! only 13,000 that's not a lof of people dying! u fucking loser! 3 years ago my cousin was killed my a drunk driver and he was only sleeping in a tent. wow! i can't believe u! yeah the bike thing was dumb and it's ok for u to fight the court for the bike thing but to say all this other crap about drinking and driving. i really don't think this is a good video!
Not to mention that the Executives at MADD make a crap load of money. More than 80% goes toward their salaries to stuff their fat faces so that they can enjoy a life of luxury.
All of us make mistakes. Each DUI case needs to be looked at differently and on an individual basis. Do not assume someone is guilty of DUI if they have been charged. The courts decide if he/she is guilty and then a conviction is made. MADD is too quick to judge..they are on a fricken witch hunt!!!!
MADD is a huge money making scam! Very little money goes to PR..most of the money goes to the employees the big wigs at MADD. The volunteers get nothing.
The last two serious comments are correct. We need to change the laws and get away from using motor vehicles. I created a website to try and turn up the volume on precisely these issues. drivinganddrinking dot org
i understand it's ridiculous that you got a UVI walking your bike, but the law is the law. fight to change legislation, don't appeal a conviction you can't win. speeding is stupid, so is drinking and driving. when it's your child killed by a drunk driver i bet your views would change considerably.
Its not just drunk drivers, REGULAR sober drivers have killed 5,000,000 americans and 100,000,000 people on earth since the auto was invented. When everyone in India and China get cars the annual death toll will be over 5,000,000 verse the 1,000,000+ now.
A good point that I didn't emphasize enough. If you look at Ohio's statistics in reverse; 95% of all crashes, 92% of injury accidents and two thirds of fatalities are NOT alcohol-related.
In 1945,a young girl named katu lata kulu came over to America in a grey boat from Africa. A mysterious man saw her and found out that she was mentally retarted. now that you have read this messege she will come to your house on a full moon and steal your eyeball unless you follow these directions:
1. Retype this message as a comment for 10,000 other videos
Don't drive drunk. It's that simple. I agree that the laws are a little harsh for riding a bike, and I agree that MADD can be a little ridiculous, but I can't believe that anyone can defend drunk driving. That's America though, if anything happens to you it's gotta be someone else's fault or some sort of injustice, right?
Quote"That's America though, if anything happens to you it's gotta be someone else's fault or some sort of injustice, right?"
You don't see the irony? You're trying to blame the alcohol for highway deaths, but the statistics don't back up your claims. You're the one blaming one statistically minor thing for the cause of every death.
I guess its too bad you couldn't just outlaw hurting people. But if people who had hurt no one could be secure, we'd NEVER root out every evil and personal vice.
Problem with the current D.W.I. laws are they are so harsh on a first time offender that they force you to might like crazy to beat the charge. I was willing to plead guilty to mine and just asked for a work permit to drive. The proscutor said no since I failed to take the breath test. I said fine and hired a kick ass lawyer and beat the charge. I would have plead guilty.
Well said, I have two DWIs myself, one was not alcohol related, the one that was I was at 0.08 B.A.C. the whole process of that costs me $5000, the second one cost me $7000 plus jail time.. Thanks for the video, very educational
Quote"Let's see, guy drives bike without lights while drunk. Thinks he has made it home-free, and gets busted on his front lawn instead. Too damn bad!"
Yeah, anyone who drives a bike without lights should be locked up!
you can't be serious rsimpson69. also California is allowed to have lap dogs on their lap while they drive. California that a stupid thing to have and your stupid for having it, do something positive for the world you FN hippies. DRINK UP
WTF? What are you talking about? Who did this guy hurt? Endanger?
Even if you drive a car drunk, if you don't hurt anyone, is there a crime? Aren't drunk driving laws really just a way to not prosecute some people for killing with their cars, by distracting us with a lesser 'crime'? Is it less of a crime to hurt someone with your car while sober?
Actually, the Jews could care less if the goyim get drunk. The BLUE HAIRED CHRISTIAN WOMEN are the ones behind DUI laws, just like they were behind Prohibition. Save yourself, kill a Baptist.
Hey America, you think you're free? You're not. The sad thing is you think you are the only free country on earth, yet you stand like sheep while thousands of new laws are dumped on you every year.
I am not proud to be an American. Who in their right mind can be proud of multi-culti, politically correct, soon-to-be-a-police-state New America?
I am very sorry to hear of your troubles.

Take Care-
CComb501 1 year ago
MADD is the real danger. Their revenge and retrubution seeking BS has undermined the Constitution and has ruined so many people's lives, careers, relationships and financial ability to take care of oneself and they will never stop until we stop them. An unconstitutional roadblock can result in someones rights being taken away, interlocks mandated and lives screwed over for years due to the likes of MADD. We have to rid the US of those fanatical neo-NAZI bastards once and for all.

I promise to give $10,000 ( the amount I have in a CD account ) to anyone who can give a logical reason why it should be illegal to drive drunk on private property that does not have public access.
clmabry 1 year ago
1. Actually, you can determine how many trips are made under sever alcohol intoxication. Out of your estimated 24.820 trips (in 34 years of driving), how many times did you drive really drunk? A statistic is difficult to get, even if you did drive a lot drunk, as most people did not do it - not even once.
adiilie81 1 year ago
Say about twice a year (on average).
adiilie81 1 year ago
3. I'm not saying there are exceptions in one direction or the other, but a heavy drinker is left without a licence sooner or later. Let's assume that they make 1 drunk trip in 15.000 so it would be about 0.006% of their trips. So a more realistic statistic would be: 70.000 drivers x 365 days x 2 trips per day = 51.100.000 trips each year made by suspect people.
adiilie81 1 year ago
@adiilie81 The problem is the heavy drinkers often don't lose their license until AFTER they hurt somebody. I'm just sick of hearing "pedestrian Joe Schmoe and two others were killed by a drunk driver doing 110 mph the wrong way down a one way street. The driver had prior DWI charges". Send them to jail when they get caught and don't give their license back, ever. If you lack the most basic skills to EXIST in the populace without hurting people, you don't deserve to drive a 4000 pound rocket.
southforsunshine 7 months ago
You now have 7 million possible drinkers, doing probably more than 0.006% of their trips drunk, as there is no law against it, and they are not afraid - nor do they lose their licence.
adiilie81 1 year ago
It would translate into no less then 612.000 accidents each year (!!!).
adiilie81 1 year ago
6. Congratulations. P.S. of course this was a forced statistic, but a) yours was too and b) it is not even that stretched. Think about it. If it translates into 10% of my estimate, it means 60.000 accidents each year, and tens of thousands people dying from drunk driving! Please think twice before posting stupid things online.
adiilie81 1 year ago
There is one HUGE flaw in your argument. Out of the 5 trillion trips made each year, how many are made under severe alcohol intoxication? 500 accidents caused by severe alcohol intoxication.... out of how many intoxicated trips? It is not OK to use ALL trips to make that risk assessment!

@sigatus No! Thats rediculous buddy.
ElchinMendes 1 year ago
Yep, MADD is just one of many political groups trying to create solutions for very real, yet (relatively) MINIMAL problems. Groups like MADD and the anit-gun Brady Campaign seem to only be in business to gather donation money and get a feeling of self-importance. The CDC, FBI, Consumer Products Safety Commission etc., all make their findings public. And all will show that MADD, VPC, Brady, et al are addressing very statistically small issues, while making their respective directors rich .
MrWheelie19 1 year ago
I am in no way, shape or form discounting the unneeded, senseless and tragic consequences of negligent, stupid acts committed by thoughtless people. Lives cannot be replaced; and there MUST be consequences for (and deterrents to) idiotic behavior. However, when you truly evaluate the empirical data that is available, groups like MADD, VPC, etc., however good their intentions may be, are just making money. Encourage enforcement of current laws? No. Campaign for new laws? Yes. It makes money.
MrWheelie19 1 year ago
You make me sick. I think Drunk Drivers should get 30 days mandatory minimum. If you lose your job, too bad. Lose your residence? TOO BAD! You deserve it. Drunk drivers are a menace.
I like how in the begining you state now that you have 1 conviction, penaltys will be doubled on the next one. Already looking forward to a new beef huh?

@sparkyyoung Cause he's a drunk driving condoning asshole, and obviously so are you. Yer a worm too. I would wish you a horrible death in a solo drunken car wreck, but I dont want to wish that on your innocent loved ones. You should be ashamed of yourself you disgusting piece of garbage.

@modernaction you are either a troll or a really stupid human being. I dont condone it i just think that some of the penalties are a bit much. grow up an see the world for what it is. it is not a safe place man and if you think it is you are deluding yourself.
sparkyyoung 1 year ago
@sparkyyoung You are already looking to excuse your drinking. I'm well aware that the world isn't a safe place, but that is no excuse to be reckless and endanger innocent people driving intoxicated. As for the penalities being a bit much, you are out of your tiny little pea sized mind. A temporarily suspended licence and a few thousand dollars in fines and fees is nothing. I spend more than that going to see rock bands play around the world. 30 days is too good for scum that drinks and drives.

The penalities are soft, as I have already pointed out. A fine. Big flippin deal. You should get JAIL TIME!
modernaction 1 year ago
@modernaction Last word......there are much bigger problems in this world then drunk drivers. Maybe more attention and funds should be put into them instead of jailing people that walk their bicycles after having a few drinks.
sparkyyoung 1 year ago
@sparkyyoung I am not advocating ignoring bigger problems. But it's been said that one unrepaired broken window is a signal that no one cares, and so breaking more windows costs nothing. Same applies here. A drunken asshole on a bike may only be a menace to himself, but next time behind the wheel, they are a menace to innocent people. Not 90 seconds into the video, this guy is already worrying about his next conviction. DONT DRIVE DRUNK AND IT WONT MATTER IF THE PENALTIES ARE INCREASED 10Xs!
modernaction 1 year ago
@modernaction Perhaps you should actually listen to the video. He wasn't on a bicycle, he was pushing it across his yard on private property. You're of the opinion that we should lock people up for what we think they could do. That's a real slippery slope. I think that people that listen to The Who should be locked up because they promote drug use. When reading through all your posts, all I could think of was "you're a fuck-tard!" You're an idiot! Why not meet me so we can discuss this topic?
anynameplease 1 year ago
@anynameplease Just more rubbish from another drunk. Dont be a drunk asshole, and you wont have police contact. As I stated, IMO people that are over the legal limit should get a mandatory minimum of 30 days. Period. This video, along with many of the comments, aludes that the penalties for drunk driving are too severe. They are not severe enough. A FEW THOUSAND DOLLARS IS NOTHING. Some crybaby drunk with a bike had a run in with the police and is crying about it on the you tube. BFD.
modernaction 1 year ago
@modernaction It's a bit of assumption to call me a drunk. I also advocate for drugs and prostitution, yet I do not drink, drug, or buy whores. I'm not even a smoker. I do not like how the government has become so draconian in their laws and the over zealous enforcement. Look at how they're now targeting fat people. They've already begun to target "normal people" that are involved in a crash, but aren't drunk. It's only a matter of time before speeding lands you 30 days in jail.
anynameplease 1 year ago
@anynameplease They are people of size you fucking scumbag, and America is not spelled with a K. Good job dipshit, a dangerous drunk gets in a car and endangers your life on your bicycle, and you think "Amerikkka" and their draconian laws are the culprit. Well I ride a scooter you asshole eater, and dont take kindly to fucked up folks on the road. I take it back, yer not a drunk, but you are an asshole. Now go fuck yourself.
modernaction 1 year ago
@modernaction It's also not only about the money. It's the criminal record that bars many from any sort of gainful employment. I don't know if you're in the UK, or another country, but here in America DUIs bar people from employment and traumatize them for life. In this video, the man explains how only 30 innocent people will killed by drunks. That's smaller than the number killed by sober drivers, but you think we should ruin 40k people's lives and lock them up in jail just to save 30 people?
anynameplease 1 year ago

Get back on yer bike and stay out of it you scum. tvr390se 2 years ago

The flu comparison was laughable as well...
MarkSpruell 2 years ago
Are you really serious? D.U.I. is just as bad if you're 60 and crashed 2 times or you're 17 and crashed 100 times.
Now i admit, the penalties are too big for that, but i don't believe in a motorway full of drunk people (proud of the fact that they didn't crash for being drunk..ever! ever, officer, i tells ya!)

@sparkyyoung Hey Sparky - If ya cant do the time, dont do the crime. The penalities are laughable.
XgenXMDS 3 years ago 2
Not supporting the majority of drink driving laws is just irresponsible. And to back that up with statistics saying that only 474 people died? Give me a break, I don't care how good of a driver you think you are. Would you spend 4 days in jail to possibly save somebody's life? You have to look at each death as one that could have been prevented. Tough break with the bike but small losses aren't an infringement on your rights, they're protecting the more basic ones.

Too argue the penalties for Drunk Driving is extremely ridiculous, especially when you are downplaying the negative effects it has. I don't get it... pathetic
jackulator2 3 years ago
Actually, driving with alcohol in your blood is a step removed from speeding. Speeding is dangerous. Speeding IS driving unsafely- thats the risk created. Alcohol in blood on its own isn't dangerous. It creates a risk of creating a danger. It increases the risk of a driver being incapable of driving safely, and driving unsafely is the risk. if that made sense
Speeding = unsafe --> endangering others = punishment
DUI--> risk of driving unsafe ---> driving unsafe --> endanger others = punishment
treyz28 3 years ago
when you compared drunk driving with speeding, you made a great point.

If the first law doesn't work, why should the next?
rsimpson69 3 years ago
I was right there with you, up until you started to justify abolition of drunk motor vehicle driving laws. I agree, laws prohibiting drinking of driving a lawn mower bicycle or golf cart on private property are wrong, but laws against driving a car drunk are not, and no amount of justification with numbers will change my mind about that. It's sort of like justifying a repeal of flu research because so few people die from flu compared to cancer. We can mitigate DUI deaths easier than flu deaths.

Go to Germany sometime.
joelkazoo 3 years ago
Ah yes, the old "we should just take it up the ass in our own backyard because it sucks even more somewhere else" argument. Seems to me that's about as logical as telling black people they should have just shut up and accepted Jim Crow since we still weren't giving it to them as bad as the Nazis gave it to the Jews.
ninerpimp69 3 years ago
Comparing Jim Crow with the "right" to drink & drive? Thanks for supporting my argument.
joelkazoo 3 years ago
No. I'm very obviously comparing Jim Crow to the Holocaust in order to demonstrate the stupidity of your argument that simply because something is really bad somewhere else it is OK if it's just a little bad here. Charging somebody with a crime simply for walking his bike across his lawn after having a few beers is not justified by the fact that it might be even worse in Germany.
ninerpimp69 3 years ago
*sigh* There's no use arguing with you. I hope you remember how much you fought for the "right" to drink and drive when you're pissing in a diaper while experiencing excruciating "phantom limb" pains.
joelkazoo 3 years ago
Thank you for your non-response. I may be in diapers someday, but you're there already. Your complete gullibility and total willingness to swallow any bullshit fed to you by your "betters" will help to ensure that big nanny America never neglects to change baby's wet bummy. How sad it is to live daily in such fear that you have to hide behind mommy. You really should go to Germany. Better yet, just wrap yourself in bubble wrap and hide in a closet until you die an ignominious death.
ninerpimp69 3 years ago
Look, I do agree that the whole pushing your bike thing IS bullshit, but there's a big difference between pushing a bike and getting behind the wheel of a car. Your tone seems to suggest they're one and the same, which is what pisses me off. If I'm just misunderstanding you, I'm sorry. And I never said anything about needing big nanny America for anything. I said it's ridiculous to think drunk driving is a "right" which the government impedes. If you want to call that hiding behind Mommy, fine.
joelkazoo 3 years ago

So, what else happened, what's the TRUTH?

Drunk driving laws are a big money maker for local govt. This and not any concern for the public is why they will only get tougher. And no I do not drink.
JEMCCJR 3 years ago
Alcohol is perhaps the most destructive drug to societies. However, most of these newly found laws seem based on mood swings. I think it is best to get back to the base the US Constitution and discard all these laws to start from a solid foundation for newly added laws. No law should be passed unless there is a referendum and the majority of people approve it in that state.

You should focus on personal property, not DUI law.
spamadee 3 years ago
No one is saying the 13000 people killed by drunks "don"t" matter/The point is that groups like madd use illogical scare tactics to create an illusion of same great threat that does not exist!/Laws must be based on logic and truth not LIES! the anti dui lobby is just another racket/look at what the manufacturers of these breathalyzers alone stand to gain if we are all foced to get one! madd is a scam/if you want someone to fear/fear govt tyranny/VOTE RON PAUL!!!
logan1776 3 years ago
You make valid points, but you can't say that DUI isn't a threat at all. How many people are currently saved by DUI law?
Also, easy on the "government tyranny" stuff. Keep in mind that MADD is a private group. If they successfully lobby politicians who we continue to vote into office, then that's democracy. Take things one at a time. Think for yourself before you join any cause (yes, even libertarianism).
spamadee 3 years ago
There is nothing wrong with drunk driving laws in the sense that the cop pulls over a driver, he smells alcohol he has a reasonable suspicion the guy is drunk, Which gives him probable cause to issue a soberiety test, however, extending laws to include on private property and expanding it to include bicycles? dont you think thats extreme? Its not like the government isnt getting anything out of this. Fines, dont forget most prisons are private now so it pays to jail people.

Great video, Jeff. One small note: The number, by your estimates, of trips the 7 million licensed Ohioans take per year is 5.1 billion, not trillion.

Not to mention that the Executives at MADD make a crap load of money. More than 80% goes toward their salaries to stuff their fat faces so that they can enjoy a life of luxury.
tomartin35 4 years ago
All of us make mistakes. Each DUI case needs to be looked at differently and on an individual basis. Do not assume someone is guilty of DUI if they have been charged. The courts decide if he/she is guilty and then a conviction is made. MADD is too quick to judge..they are on a fricken witch hunt!!!!
tomartin35 4 years ago
MADD is a huge money making scam! Very little money goes to PR..most of the money goes to the employees the big wigs at MADD. The volunteers get nothing.

i understand it's ridiculous that you got a UVI walking your bike, but the law is the law. fight to change legislation, don't appeal a conviction you can't win. speeding is stupid, so is drinking and driving. when it's your child killed by a drunk driver i bet your views would change considerably.

Its not just drunk drivers, REGULAR sober drivers have killed 5,000,000 americans and 100,000,000 people on earth since the auto was invented. When everyone in India and China get cars the annual death toll will be over 5,000,000 verse the 1,000,000+ now.
joshuasocean 4 years ago
A good point that I didn't emphasize enough. If you look at Ohio's statistics in reverse; 95% of all crashes, 92% of injury accidents and two thirds of fatalities are NOT alcohol-related.

Don't drive drunk. It's that simple. I agree that the laws are a little harsh for riding a bike, and I agree that MADD can be a little ridiculous, but I can't believe that anyone can defend drunk driving. That's America though, if anything happens to you it's gotta be someone else's fault or some sort of injustice, right?
joehartley 4 years ago
Quote"That's America though, if anything happens to you it's gotta be someone else's fault or some sort of injustice, right?"
You don't see the irony? You're trying to blame the alcohol for highway deaths, but the statistics don't back up your claims. You're the one blaming one statistically minor thing for the cause of every death.
I guess its too bad you couldn't just outlaw hurting people. But if people who had hurt no one could be secure, we'd NEVER root out every evil and personal vice.
rsimpson69 3 years ago
